Bikes,Breast implants and Blood
What a weekend!!!

Joy,Me, Reformed Lurker,Sunshine,Sunspots,LeSubtil, his daughter and her friend,Tarabull (and Beau) Arrived at the camp friday. It was great to see some new faces and to see familiar ones. The site was called "rustic". If by rustic they meant not-rustic then they were right on.

We had 5 sites so we all spread out and set up. A fire was started, food was eaten, drinks were served. While enjoying the evening we were serenaded by a chainsaw, something that sounded like a leaf blower and the neghbor kid yelling "SHUT UP!" at the family across the way who was giving us all an oldies concert.

We all turned in by 12am. In the morn we hung out and sipped coffee and waited for the others to arrive. Buddha Bear, General Custard, Adventuregirl, her roommate and cousin arrived around 9. We headed out under the more than capable guidance of Reformed Lurker to Island lake to do a 6 mile loop. The weather was great. I think there was 17 of us on the trail. What a pack! It was a mixed use trail so we got to see lots of bikers who had a giant obstacle in our group.

After the hike everyone split up. Some to work, some to Canada, some too eat and some home.

On the second night there It was Joy and Me,LeSubtil and his crew,Tarabull and Beau, and G.C. and B.B. We hung out more, drank more, ate more, watched more fire. LeSubtils girls were enjoying riding their bikes around the campground. We had new neighbors, one was a Pam Anderson clone with quite an impressive set of fake boobs. She spent much time offering others cookies.

As it got dark Pam Andersons man decided to ride his bike to the privy, just as the girls were coming down the hill. A collision resulted. We all went to check it out. Jasmine was on the ground crying and the guy was busy fussing about his finger. We got Jasmine up after a few and walked her back to camp for an ice pack. The guy was still talking about his finger, which turned out to have a nasty cut/tear in need of stiches.Pam Anderson arrived as we were clearing the wreck and proceeded to keep asking "what the f@ck happened". Eventually we got finger boy and Pam directed to the hospital, and Jasmine relaxed when Nurse Cratchett showed up to announce that she had peroxide and then said to Jasmine " oh, you are gonna feel that in the morning". We hurried her away and thanked her for her expert medical aid gleaned from so many episode of MASH and E.R. The DNR guy showed up and our friendly nurse proceeded to explain to him how finger boy was "really messed up". He wanted to call "911". We informed him that the boy was okay and that all was weel.

Pam and Fingerboy never showed up. But they were kind enough to leave out dog food, pringles and cookies for the raccoons who were very appreciative to say the least. More campfire and drinks a good sleep. We all split up at 10am and heade home. It is always a great time to get together with TTers. Thank you all so much for coming!!!!

I had a great ime all - thanks to Joy, Hyper and Tarabull for organizing the gruop and Reformed Lurker for picking a nice trail.

I have an additional observation about yesterday's events, and it comes in a question: Can you fit a queen sized mattress into a two man dome tent?

Oh, and hyper, those weren't fake, they were real dude!

I can't believe I hiked 6 miles with Chandra Levy and didn't recognize her. She's quite the cross-dresser.

Anyway, I had a good time. Is 17 people a trailtalk record? Our plan to take over the site is progressing nicely.

Anyway, we might in the future think about a trail building trip. We can't let the mountain bikers have all the fun.

Thanks, everyone for coming. How was Canada, Adventuregirl?

RE: Bikes,Breast implants and Blood
Yes, another amazing TrailTalk weekend. I had a blast; it was great to see Hyper & Joy again and their cute new little Abby, and Sunshine & the adorable Sunspots. I met the rest of the gang for the first time; it is neat to put faces and voices to the names. I'd be honored to backpack with any or all of you.
The weather was flawless, the hike was great, and the conversation was riveting as evidenced buy my staying up far past my usual 9 pm bedtime, and drinking more beer than I have in the last 12 months. My girls had a lot of fun too. Thanks to Joy and everyone who organized this time.

I even learned a few things. Who'd have thought you could play Parcheesi like that ?

I had a great time as well. It was awesome meeeting you all. i want to do it again. Cousin and roomate also say you are all cool folk. Canada was fun. when we crossed the border the first time no one wqould believe that we had no plan. Then on our way back, after just driving around and exploring, they did not believe that anyone would just come to Canada and do nothing, so they seaarched our trunk. That made us laugh. we all arived home at midnight and went straight to bed we were exausted. It was a very long day. It was awesome meeting you all!

AdventureGirl - The Canadians have been at Defcon 2 ever since the US stopped supporting McKenzie Brother movies back in 83'. They are very suspicious of most Americans, and are required to search any cars containing people from Kansas (your cousin). I've never been searched before, because I know how to confuse the border mounties. Here is a typical exchange between myself and nthe mounties:

Mountie: How long have you been in Canada, and where are you from?

BB: Too long, 2 days. I am from Ohio, I mean the U.S.

Mountie: What was the nature of your visit?

BB: I came to gamble and go to the strip bars, but we also went to Curling School and visited the Brian Boitano Hair Styling Acadamy.

Mountie: Are you bringing anything back to the US form Canada?

BB: About $200 American in winnings, which is about $500 Canadian, some really nice mental pictures, and a Dudley Dooright video.

Mountie: You may pass.

About halfway across the tunnel, I realize that I forgot to mention that I have 2 boxes of Cuban cigars. Oh well, eh!

RE: Bikes,Breast implants and Blood
Funny!

I was watching the CBC last night and they did this 5 minute segment on the National news about the glorious new Canadian space arm.

At one point the head of the Canadian Space Agency was at the podium. The Canadian Space Agency! The only rockets I've ever known about in Canada were the Winnipeg Jets and they've long since left Canadian airspace.

But, we better watch out. I've been seeing a lot of Tim Horton's opening up in Michigan. They hold the advance troops of the upcoming Canadian invasion.

Top Five Things Not To Do While Camping:

1) Wear really really tight jeans
2) Wear a halter top w/ no bra when you have fake boobs that require some support
3) Wear high heels
4) Wear tons of makeup and big hair.
5) Ride a bike w/ 14 year olds while wearing really really tight jeans, a halter top filled w/ fake boobs and no bra, high heels, tons of makeup and big hair.

However, I'm willing to bet that Buddha Bear will beg to differ!!

All jokes aside, I had a great time this weekend. You were such a great crowd. The hike was great, the conversation was great, the weather was great. Who could ask for more?

Looking forward to the next adventure.

Hey BS, I wore a day pack on the hike, as well as many others. We hiked and had a ggod time, that's what it's all about, right? And, if you'll notice, what this thread is not really a trip report. It isn't labeled "Dayhike in Brighton", it has humerous connotations, so just roll with it dude.

I usually don't tell people when I go car camping it's so shamefull. I guess it gets that way because of the extra stuff you can haul in.

Okay, I'll admit it, I like to car camp. There. It's out in the open. My life of secrecy has now come to an end. Maybe the nightmares will stop.

But, really, most of the places I car camp are off the beaten path and look about the same as a lot of backpacking campgrounds. Without a big pack I can usually hike a whole lot more.

I like to backpack, but car camping sure is fun. Oh, and did I mention the people. I love meeting people.

RE: Bikes,Breast implants and Blood
I'll admit, car camping is no where near as fun as backpacking, however, dayhiking has several advantages that coincide with backpacking. 1. like lurker said, you get to meet people. 2. I am sure that not everyone here can take weeks at a time off from work to hike into the bush (although I'll bet we all wish we could), so time is a constraint. 3. You get in shape for the real deal. 4. You'd be surpised at the interesting places you can day hike. 5. It is always fun to poke fun at the dedicated car campers who actually believe they are camping!

Peace - Out

The biggest two benefits of car camping are...

2. Having a really comfortable lawn chair to drink beer in.

BS, I think Sunshine set a record for the heaviest pack ever carried on a 6 mile hike. Can I claim that record for her on this thread? Is there a special thread for record claiming?

I had a really good time this weekend. Ya'll wore me out. It was great meeting more TTer's and seeing ol' friends. We'll have to get together for a backpacking weekend sometime. Manistee River anyone?

I don't think there is anything shameful about car camping. I do it several times a year. It's just another way to relax by a fire, sleep under the stars, enjoy the outdoors when a backpack trip isn't feasible.

I didn't think that we were above that here.

RE: Bikes,Breast implants and Blood
Sorry, but I can't keep to myself about this.

I can't believe some of you are beating up on car camping again. There is good car camping and lousy car camping. If your family or friends don't backpack, car camping allows you to do some family or group trips to the pseudo-wilderness. Yes, everyone who goes should have good LNT ethics. But, part of why some people like to backpack is to get away from snobbism, except it appears that it exists in the woods as well. If you don't like car camping, don't do it. But why do you feel the need to sneer at people that do? Especially at people who backpack most of the time. Some people can't stand to hear about other people having fun.
