D'oh! I'm not going to be able to make it. I just got a job that starts on the 7th and won't have the time to drive to Ohio. Dang, I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of you too. Have a great hike you all.

RE: Ohio Folks
With a crew like that...I'll definitly maybe be there.

I was planning on trying to make the White Mtn hike this weekend (although I never told anybody about my plan) on a last minute impromptu basis. Turns out I could've done it...had I not hurt my ankle last Friday. It's still messed up and seems that it will be for another week (or two, hopefully not)

RE: Ohio Folks
BB - how many sites are there? Are we going to have trouble accomadating this many people?

Le Subtil - I hope you do make it, we'd love to see you again!

P.S. My brother MIGHT come. He's trying to decide between a bachlor party and backpacking.

RE: Ohio Folks
Tarabull, the sites are huge and could easily accommodate 8-10 tents w/o a problem. I'm not sure what the rules are but there will be lots of room unless there's a boy scout convention the same weekend!

RE: Ohio Folks
Baume, it's a junior high youth director position at a Lutheran church in Duluth. One downside to the job is that my SUndays are now spoken for, so I may be done backpacking, unless i take a thursday and friday off. Great job otherwise. Craziest thing... I have a pension with it. That doesn't seem right. I'm 23 and willhave a pension. Whoa.

RE: Ohio Folks
congrats on the job, Oldie!

Wow, I could actually be a surprise shoe-in on this one, if I am still a baglady in a few weeks...I can just wheel my cart Westward (about 10 hours though...arrgghh).

Put me down as a very very tentatively possible maybe. ;)

Night hiking is great! When we hiked the Catskills last Feb, I hiked in late, on snowshoes, solo, with full pack(and gear sled!) to meet Buddur...and wouldn't ya know dat bayastahd made tracks in the snow going in circles!!
I almost ended up setting up shop solo too, except I found him at the last minute. We never did find the campsite that was supposed to be there, according to the map!

Gooood times! =:0

Gozo,
We are neighbors! I'm in Springfield! You gotta check out The Buckeye Trail Assco. we are going to Ohio Power this weekend for a little trail work, do you do any trail maintenance with anyone now? Also we've planned a trip to Big South Fork (Tenn.) late Oct. it's gonna be good. You should try and hook up.

RE: Ohio Folks
The thread suggests an approximate 3 mile hike on Friday night, a 10 mile hike on Saturday and a 7 mile hike on Sunday.

Buddha mentioned we'd camp at C and D, Friday and Saturday respectively.

I checked out the topo link and am confused... where are we starting? I assumed A, since there is parking there. But the map says it's only 1.8 miles to C. Then only 4.3 miles to D.

What am I missing??? Am I reading something wrong?

RE: Ohio Folks
tarabull....i had the same confusion until i started adding up the numbers and evidently we will be hiking to camp H on saturday rather than camp D....the numbers tend to support this....i don't know about the 1.8 vs 3.0 miles to camp C difference....

can't wait to get out on this trail and meet some tt people!! are you going to hike friday afternoon or are you a night hiker??

RE: Ohio Folks
Thanks for the clarification. I looked at that map for sometime before I was willing to admit I was confused!

I'm a night-hiker. We should be there anytime between 6 and 9pm, depending on what time we can both get out of work. Earlier would be better. I wouldn't mind hanging out w/ a couple TTers while we wait for anyone else that might be coming!

RE: Ohio Folks
Hey wolfsister! We?re practically neighbors! I live in Piqua (just north of Dayton). I go down to Buck Creek and hike around the lake at least once a year. I hiked some of the trail that goes around Caesars creek a few weeks ago. Not a bad trail for being so close to the west-central part of the state. Clifton Gorge and Glenn Helen are my favorite local hikes for day hikes. Where do you hike?

RE: Ohio Folks
Nigal,
I do Caeser Creek every chance I get, I usually start at Roxanna/Paitersville Rd and go to the horsecamp(stopping of course to fish the ponds). I just got home from doing a little trail maitenaince at Ohio Power Lands near McConnnalsville . It was nice to hike in on brand new trail and cross a darn nice three logged bridge thanks to the hard working people of the Buckeye Trail Assco. I spent a solo night in there in the most peaceful, aromatic pine forest. Scioto Trail section of the B.T. near Richmondale hooked up with Tar Hollow is challenging and beautiful. That's my favs!

did anyone see the article in the news last week about the guy who is camped out up in a tree in protest of plans to increase logging in the zaleski area....we should be hiking very near to his protest sight....hopefully, the sight of 87 tt'ers with headlamps on full bright marching up the side of the mountain won't scare him right down off his perch....

I'll be on my way to Minnesota and the SHT. I'm sorry Zaleski didn't work out, sounded like fun. Tip one for me!

BTW I'm sorry I didn't make last weekend's trip either. It had something to do with a teenage son and a Friday night call from a detective.

I hate to be one of those hikers who always cancels at the last minute, but life with 4 teenagers make planning anything hard.

BB - If I understand your "map" link correctly, I should head to the nearest Air Force Base and ask to be dropped off at the trailhead? I guess that sounds easier than driving 5 hours.

Hey, guys, it's not going to work out for me. I've been so busy that I've decided to hike leisurely nearby rather than drive 6 hours on Friday and Sunday.

Bummer, too. I just got a Petzl Tikka that I could have used. Oh, well, maybe next time.
