“I'll accommodate the change in plans. However, if the date can be pushed up somewhat, it'll be even better.

No camping in the CVNP, but dayhiking abounds. And NO F-ING TRAILS...sorry, but those babies are extremely muddy and mucky this time of the year. And anyways, I don't hike trails...too monotonous, and so much other land out there to see. If you don't like walking in the woods, hardcore hillclimbs and steep decents, tightrope ridgewalking, all in forested badland-like terrain...then don't come. This ain't a lightweight shoe, stay on the trail with your blinders on and hike 10 mph place.

If the Ohio people get their act together, we'll go the third Saturday.

BTW, I'm up for an urban Ann Arbor hike in the next few weekends. If anyone is interested, write your name on a rock and throw it on the trail at Pinckney. I'll pick 'em up as I hike this weekend.”

If we can't change his mind, we can camp somewhere... anywhere. Maybe near the Island Lake trail... back in Brighton.

REFORMED LURKER: When are you thinking you might do the Urban Hike?”

“OK, I'll plan the weekend for younz guyz! After all, I've been thinking about something like that for a while now. I had second thoughts after Ms.tarabull said "...driving 4 hours for a dayhike?", which she had a good point.

We could meet up either Fri night or early Sat morning. I can accommodate a lot of people at my house, so no hotel is necessary. On Sat, do 1 long dayhike, or 2 slightly long dayhikes with either a packed lunch or a Winking Lizard restaurant stop inbetween, and then 1 hike on Sun morning before everybody heads out of town.”

“What I meant was that I didn't want to drive 4 hours there on Saturday and 4 hours back on Saturday. TOO much driving for one day.

Now that I know I have a place to put my head... I am a happy camper (so to speak).”

“I would definitely come to this, but when is it happening?”

“2nd weekend in March, I think... Which means many Michiganiacs will not be attending the Mich Mtnrs Hike.”

“Hey, I'm thinking that this is a perfect time to switch to the 3rd Saturday permanently for the Michigan hikes. That way we don't interfere with the Washtenaw Hiking club.

I'm up for the Cleveland thing, but I'll have to work out alternative birthday arrangements with my sister.”

“Well, Michelle's birthday is March 13, but I'll be at a conference from the Tues.-Thurs. of that week. So, we were tentatively planning to celebrate on the weekend. But if I'm in Cleveland, well.... So, I could be the totally cool brother that I am and not go to Cleveland. Or I could make up for it some way and go hiking. It is very definitely an ethical dilemma.

“People can always crash at my place as well. I live about 1/2 hour from Buddur, and closer to MI. I am trying to keep the dates open!”

“I had an epiphany of sorts a while ago. The last time I went to East Fork Lake I hated it. The trail was bad, the backcountry camp was so run down and dirty. In my trip report here (The Hell Yeah Hike 2001) I b!tched up a storm and swore I’d never return. I didn’t see it at the time but I came to realize that this attitude is totally counter to what I try and encourage others to do. Don’t b!tch, do something. So I have decided that this trail and the disused camp are going to be my Trails Day project every year. I’m going to haul in tools and trash bags and give the place a makeover. It’s not much but it will make a difference of some sort and I’ll be actively b!tching instead of just plain old b!tching.”
