JMT Help “I am entering the John Muir Trail at the Devil's Postpile trailhead and I was wondering if anybody has info on parking at the trailhead. I don't want to take the shuttle. I want to park at the trailhead itself. Thanks.” 4:51:31 PM 7/17/01 RE: JMT Help “JChild, you won't be able to park at the trailhead. You'll have to leave your vehicle at Mammoth Lakes, I believe, and take the shuttle to Reds Meadow, hooking onto the JMT from there. You might want to give Reds a call, see if they can offer an alternative, but when I was there 2 years ago, they didn't allow cars to park down there.” 5:54:27 PM 7/17/01 RE: JMT Help 9:49:50 PM 7/17/01 RE: JMT Help “JChild, I'm not sure of the exact hours but I think before 7-8 AM and after 5-6 PM you don't have to take the shuttle. Additionally, if you have reservations at one of the campgrounds they'll let you through.” 10:11:47 PM 7/17/01 RE: JMT Help “Hey gang, I also have a question about parking. I'm leaving Happy Isles on July 26 and exiting Whitney on Aug. 08. What I'd like to know is... can I park my vehicle in Yosemite Valley for the duration of my JMT hike and/or will have to pay additional park fees beyond the one-week $20 fee? Snownymph, I'm hiking with WS. Are we going to see ya on the trail? That'd be so cool. I'll keep an eye out for Mel and the llama hikers too. TIA, Bill” 1:25:51 AM 7/19/01 RE: JMT Help “Doing Whitney this weekend (Sunday, 7/22), Bearpaw Meadow the following weekend (7/28-30), probably Pal Glacier after that (8/4-5), and North Lake (8/11-12). Aug 18-19 is still open. JMT starting the 24th for 30 or so days. I'm gonna have to run into you guys/gals sometime. Doing Mt Muir & Whitney on 9/20 and Mt Russell on 9/21. Will exit on the 22nd & try to hitch a ride to Mammoth, unless we can get someone to pick us up. We're checking into a shuttle or some other way to get to Happy Isles. Don't want to leave our trucks on either end for a month. Thinking about leaving the trucks at Mammoth, and get a ride from there. Maybe hitch a ride from Lone Pine. Is there outgoing mail at Vermillion? Would like to mail 10-12 rolls of film out from there since Muir Ranch doesn't do it. If not I have to carry it to Charlotte Lake. By then I should have 22-24 rolls of film on me. Ughh” 3:14:28 AM 7/19/01 RE: JMT Help “Snow Nymph, so when are you guys going digital, as far as photography goes?” 12:34:14 PM 7/19/01 “I'm just curious, not seriously looking at the JMT for this summer yet, but are there restrictions on dogs on the trail?” 4:01:48 PM 1/28/04 “Hi simer! You'll find doggy restrictions only through the National Parks, which is quite a bit of the trail. All through Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia dogs are not allowed. But through the Ansel Adams Wilderness and the John Muir Wilderness, dogs are allowed. I have two German Sheps that hike with me most everywhere I go, but even though it broke my heart (and theirs) I chose not to try and take them even on the Wilderness Area sections of the trail, mostly because it would require a lot more shuttling. The only section that would make sense to bother with the trouble of taking your dog would be from Red's Meadow to Vermilion Resort.” 4:27:04 PM 1/28/04 “thanks for the info” 5:29:14 PM 1/28/04 “Hey simer, I just checked out your website. I've seen that before from a while ago, way prior to me ever visiting this site. I think your goals are really cool. You have some nice photos on your site too. Keep up the adventurous spirit! I hope our paths cross some day.” 5:36:57 PM 1/28/04 “Thanks Buck, I knew I'd be able to count on you for advice, My site there hasn't been updated for a long time... but I would really like to get on my goals, i definately haven't lost my adventurous spirit.” 5:51:57 PM 1/28/04
