Shrub check
Tell us what your plans are for Dubyah's tax kickback.

My SSN means my check will be in the last group mailed. Friggin' hanging chads, anyway.

I'm buying a new sewing machine so I can quilt. I like to quilt, quilting is fun and it keeps me out of trouble since it's too damn hot to hike here now. I could take up drinking I guess. I can't wait for it to cool down some. I can hike in the low 90's, but not when it's 107.

I might do the liberal thing with mine. see, I We aren't entitled to these to these tax cuts. If I return the money to Washington, they can use it to pay for social programs or to save the environment or to pay for Lawandrea's abortion, or etc. Better yet, if I send back the money, maybe some middle aged Congressman can use it for porking his mistress.

Good Point Baso4,

At what point did we decide that adultery was not a legitimate reason to throw the bum out? Clinton, Newt, Hutchison, Condit? Why are the women so passive on this issue? As far as I am concerned if you can't be honest with your spouse, what chance do your constituents have?

This should be something that transcends party loyalty. If ya screw around you are out. Who is with me? We have been bamboozaled by the press long enough. Right is right and wrong is wrong.

If we had kicked out all the infidels in the Oval office, would there be anyone left? It might be easier to count the ones who were faithful. I can think of one Ronald Reagan. Anyone else come to mind?

Those people are elected to run the country and take care business. I don't think anyone believes they are saints. If you need moral leadership, go to church. Personally I would have liked them to keep the money and ensure that SS will be there when and if any of us need it. I can't believe that a couple of hundred bucks will make or break anyone, but collectively that's alot of money that could have been put to good use.

RE: Shrub check
trlhiker, Why not invest the money yourself and get three times the return that the Federal Government gets? Al Gore's Lockbox policy was not going to extend social security. He had not proposed a plan to transfer the tax surplus to SS. He was just going to line the pork barrels with the surplus.

Why shouldn't I expect my elected representatives to obey the law?

RE: Shrub check
Some of the surplus I'm sure would have gone towards shoring up SS along with other important programs, like Medicare. I'm as sure of that as you are sure that it would have been used to "line the pork barrels", problem is we will never know now. If you can take the couple of hundred dollars you get and turn it into what SS is, your one hell of an investor. I hope everyone will be as lucky as you. Personally I'm not counting on anything from SS but since we've paid into it all these years I want what is due me. One of the great hold overs from the last eight years of great economic growth was the surplus we had to work with, and now Dubyah has pissed most of that away.

I'm not sure what law you are talking about your elected officals obeying. Since I'm bitching I can't see how Dubyah can stand in front of audience and say that there is not enough scientific evidence to support the Green House Theory or that the enviroment is being harmed, and keep a straight face. What a steaming pant load.
Ya see I'm 48 an I've lived and worked through the nixon years (I am not a crook, Water Gate), the Carter years (Shaw of Iran, I have lusted after other women in my heart), Ronald Reagan (Iran Contra, Oliver North, Reaganomics , what a joke, almost spending the Country into bankruptcy), he gave big business a tax break to close their factories in the US and move them over seas. George Bush, what a do nothing President (I was not in the loop, he let Oliver North take the fall for him and Reagan, it took a war to get people to forget about the sorry economy, Clinton (White Water, turned out to be nothing, and skirt chasing, big deal). Something else we got out of him was the longest run of economic growth in history, unemployment down, welfare down, interest down, job growth and investments in business up, balanced budget for the first time in a hundred years and the afore mentioned surplus, as long as he was taking care of the country's business, and he was, he could have been having sex with circus monkeys during his coffee break and I could have cared less, like i said their elected to take care of business if you require moral leadership go to church. Now we got Dubyah, I'm not a prophet but I bet he'll be a bigger dissapointment than his dad. Most of the people here i suspect is only old enough to have worked in the Clinton years and what they know about about the economy they have learned in the past ten years.
Well let me tell you how it was before, 15 to 18% home morgage rates, unemployment sitting at 8%, no new housing starts, no factory investment because no one had money. I hope you never have to learn about this stuff the hard way.

OH WELL, THINGS MAY NOT ALWAYS WORK OUT LIKE YOU WOULD HAVE LIKED, BUT THEY ALWAYS WORK OUT..........

We'll use ours for school clothes for 4 teenagers. I figger it'll cover about half.

This whole rebate thing insults me. HOw stupid do they think we are?
Throw a little cash our way and we'll all genuflect to the almighty federal government. If there is a surplus, why not reduce or remove some of the federal taxes?

I saw on the evening news a few nights ago that it cost the government $34 mill to send out notices to the people who are NOT getting any money back. Now that is a pretty sorry waste of my dough and everyone else's. What is that in terms of wasted paper? Must be about half a god damned forest or something.

I'm with bacpac, and old enough to remember who did what to at least the Ford era. Carter was a good guy but a rotten prez and the high inflation/ interest rates were his baby. As an environmental engineer I can give you my opinion that "global warming" is still an opinion not fact. It is also the opinion of the same group of scientists that were doing a chicken little about a new ice age about 20 years ago. They're guessing. Refund, and I'm glad to have it back, is going into the kid's college fund.

RE: Shrub check
Wait a minute, in 2001 I paid taxes on the money I earned in 2000. Now the Feds are sending me back $600 out of the amount I paid, however, this $600 does not increase the amount I earned in 2000, all it does is decrease (slightly) the amount I paid in taxes for the income I earned in 2000.

However, the state in which you live may have different ideas depending on its tax laws (i.e. if you're allowed to deduct Federal income tax paid from your state income).

I'm with newgirl. Last week I got a letter telling me I will be getting $300 in a few weeks. What a waste of paper, postage, and personel.

I side with the knee-jerk liberals. Much as I hate governmental waste and distrust much of what is done with my tax money, $300 isn't going to change my life.

As far as moral leadership goes - trlhikr has it right. If you need moral guidence, go to church. I prefer to stick to the old golden rule. And the great bible quote about those without sin.
