Best time for Yosemite? “Trying to block off vacation for Yosemite. Unfortunately, I won't be able to go in September because of a work-commitment. If I go in late August (like the LAST week in August), will I run into huge crowds? I intend to hike Half-dome and then maybe Mt. Dana/Toulene Meadows area. THanks!” 9:17:30 AM 7/23/01 RE: Best time for Yosemite? “I went last year in August and hiked from Toulo Meadows to Happy Isles and didn't see too many people (relatively speaking) until I got to little Yosemite. The only thing I missed out on was the volume of water coming out of the falls. When I went in June the year before the falls were roaring! No matter what, Yosemite is one of the best. Enjoy!” 10:56:09 AM 7/23/01 RE: Best time for Yosemite? “Any time!” 11:36:08 AM 7/24/01 RE: Best time for Yosemite? “Yep that's about right, if your talkin about visiting the backcountry. Yosemite Valley is a mad house June - August, but just hike more then 5 miles away and you can relax(w/the exception of the Half Dome hike).” 11:57:54 AM 7/24/01 RE: Best time for Yosemite? “We used to go there in the winter, and climb on south facing slopes. We'd watch the coyotes playing in the snow on the valley floor below. Our rule of thumb was visit Yosemite before memorial day, and after labor day. However, even in peak seasons, if you get off the trail, or a few miles down the most popular trails, you'll be alone soon enough.” 4:11:22 PM 7/24/01
