Grand Canyon in November “I am planning a Trip to the Grand Canyon in early November. I will be going with experienced hikers, but we have never camped or hiked in that kind of terrain. I'm looking for some ideas for a 3 night 20-30 mile trip. If you have a favorite trip that isn't a secret place, let me know. Also, how cold it it in November? Should I take full winter gear? Thanks for the help, Timbros” 3:25:49 PM 7/23/01 RE: Grand Canyon in November “Expect temps in the mid 20's to upper 30's at night and the possibility for snow to be on the ground at the South Rim. Of course, the farther down into the canyon you get, the warmer it gets.” 4:23:09 PM 7/23/01 RE: Grand Canyon in November “Check Bob Ribokas' Kaibab.org site. You will find charts for temps and descriptions of every trail and many routes including numerous detailed trip reports and maps. Info on the permit system is there too.” 4:28:03 PM 7/23/01 RE: Grand Canyon in November “GOOD LUCK getting your permit!” 6:59:56 PM 7/23/01 RE: Grand Canyon in November “Thanks for the info!” 10:44:59 AM 7/25/01 RE: Grand Canyon in November “Good 3-day trip for those with no canyon experience is S. Kaibab to Bright Angel Campground up the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Gardens up the BA Trail to the rim. If on the other hand some in your group do have canyon experience, check these: 1) S. Kaibab to Grandview 2) Hermit to Bright Angel 3) Boucher / Hermit For the very experienced: 1) New Hance / Grandview 2) Tanner / New Hance along the Escalante route (this trip is a real challenge for 3 days) A good book to review is Annarino's Sierra Club tote book. Describes all the above trails and reliable water. Also get a Trails Illustrated Map. The TI map shows the various "areas" for camping so you can better plan. Decide early, have a couple options in mind (both trip and date/day) and get your permit application in NOW! Enjoy a great trip.” 1:32:24 AM 7/27/01
