Aquatic Charge Purification Capsule

“While gawking through the Bargain Cave at Cabela's, I came across something with the above name. It looks like a miniature barbell with some pores in the middle. It supposedly purifies water by "electro chemical and catalytic action".

It was on sale for $10. So, I bought one thinking I'd check it out on the internet to see if it worked. Anyone ever used/heard of this? It's small and pretty light. Or did I just kiss $10 good bye?
