Hmmm... I went to Island Packet home page to see what else may be happening at Hilton Head this summer, and what do I see? James Brown isn't going to contest the domestic violence charge from last January... He'll forfeit bail as the fine and serve no jail time.

So, basicically, I was looking at a website based in Tennessee, followed a link posted by a guy in New Jersey to the website of a paper in Hilton head to get the story about what happened 4 miles away, across the river in Aiken County.

Welcome to the 21st Century.

Man sets his pants and workplace afire

An employee at a furniture manufacturing business off Loma Rica Road decided Friday night to see what would happen if he held a lighter to his pants - which were saturated with a highly flammable chemical.

The result was his pants, and a part of the building, caught on fire.

No one was seriously hurt in the blaze, which was reported at 11:26 p.m. at Furniture by Thurston, 12250 Charles Drive. The employee suffered minor burns to his legs and was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was released the same day.

"He put a lighter to his pants to see if they would ignite, an EMT told me," said Dan Slayton, a Furniture by Thurston business manager. "It just baffles me."

Slayton did not release the name of the employee but described him as a college student in his early 20s.

Don't let him operate heavy machinery when/if he grows up.

I think he should sue the lighter company. :o)

A DRUNKEN flasher died when he tripped over his trousers and fell from a first-floor window on to spiked railings.

Rugby player Gareth Mason, 22, bled to death after suffering 15 wounds to his neck and chest when a drunken stunt went wrong.

Pal Katie Stansby, 21, told how they had just returned to his flat from a pub crawl when the tragedy happened. Gareth had dropped his trousers and stood in the window shouting: 'Who wants some of this?'.

She said: 'He said it as a joke. He said it out of the window but there was no one out there.

'His trousers and pants were around his ankles and he could not move. He bent forward and went out of the window. He put both of his hands up, opened palms and tried to stop himself but he missed the window and fell through.

An inquest heard Gareth was found to have been'heavily intoxicated', with a blood-alcohol level four times the drink-drive limit.

Hey, maybe if they made it illegal to do stupid things when you're drunk, this guy would still be alive!

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Mullen meant to kill the bees infesting his utility shed Wednesday, but he ended up causing a small explosion, burning the shed to cinders and causing about $80,000 in damage to his Midtown home, according to fire officials.

"There were no injuries, unless you count the bees," said Mobile Fire-Rescue spokesman Steve Huffman.
[...]
Although the fire only burned for a short time, it did heavy damage to the side of the house and filled the interior with smoke and soot. Mullen is renting the home; his residence in Biloxi was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

Mullen's fiancée and 1-year-old daughter were inside the house when the fire started, but, Mullen said, he got them out before the fire had spread.

A neighboring house, which is vacant and up for sale, went mostly undamaged, but the blaze burned hot enough to melt some plastic blinds through a closed window.
[...]
Despite the fire, a few sur viving bees continued to buzz around the ashes of the ruined shed Wednesday afternoon.

"Looking at all this, there might have been a better way," Mullen said, surveying the damage.

All he had to do was call a bee keeper and they would have come out and removed the colony.
