Southern sympathizer
My most recent trip had me thinking about you guys in the South with the high humidity. I couldn't even imagine how miserable that must feel. At least in dry weather your clothes will dry in 30 minutes or less when you stop hiking

Here's my report

Hiked up the Northfork of the Trinity in 107 degree weather.

Finally cooled down at about 1:00 A.m. Next Morning did some prospecting in the creek until the temp got up to about 105 at 11:00 a.m. You could have fried an egg on the rocks.

Tried to nap the afternoon away but the heat and flies were miserable.

At 6:00 p.m. when it cooled to about 95 degrees we got the hell out of there.

I was putting a hold on the high country this year and spending my backpacking time prospecting.
Gold panning is fun but it's only 2000ft. where I go.

I'm going back to the high country lakes and doing my prospecting in the fall.

107, what a killer. You are definately right about high humidity. It is a beast. 98 degrees and 97% humidity yesterday in North Florida. Down here you MUST wear coolmax or similar clothing if you ever want it to dry. I go north this time of year. 29 days till Glacier and I can't wait.

The heat index (temp + humidity) for you guys down south was 115F yesterday.

Ouch!

Makes me appreciate living on the coast. After a trip like that it's a blessing to drive down the mountain and feel the natural air-conditioning.

If you live in North Florida, it's good to take up kayaking. I wouldn't even consider hiking here in the summer. That's why I always take a trip to the mountains when it gets hot. In Florida, I spend a lot of time around water. Fortunately we have plenty of that here. It's even comfortable enough to swim in. The springs are 72 degrees year round, plenty of lakes, plenty of rivers, and plenty of beautiful sandy beaches.

Only six more days before I hit Glacier, humanpackmule.

Arclite I usually canoe my summer away. Haven't had much of a chance to to do that this summer though but I did get to hit the Smokies three times. Can't complain.

Only six days? That's very cool. What are your trip plans?
