My computer caught a virus!
My computer caught something and has been sending out viruses to other people on it's own I got a Norton Anti-virus softwear today and it's doing it's job. Hopfully it'll be virus free soon.
BTW, I'm on the other computer in the house incase your wondering how I'm posting this now.

RE: My computer caught a virus!
I had to send and appology to a couple that sent me a "what the Hell are you sending me" e-mail. I replied back and told them Not to open it and it wasn't intentional.

walkindude's got the virus blues...

Did you get W32.Magistr.24876@mm? I have a few friends that got it. It can be pretty nasty...it overwrites hard drives, erases CMOS, and flashes the BIOS. You can read more about it from the link above.

My Norton AntiVirus caught it right away...another great reason to use virus protection.

RE: My computer caught a virus!
There is a new one going around right now.. (no surprise.. they come out all the time!).. but I think whoever masterminded it is a GENIUS.. he/she sent it to JOTW.

(JOTW is Joke of the week?.. who does MASS mailings.. all across America?)..

I got a friend who got it, but was smart enough not to open or preview it. (I am still just marveling how incredibly smart this person is. What an incredible way to get a virus out quick.. Imagine if they had sent it to NBCI.com or something?)

RE: My computer caught a virus!
One of the new ones going around looks for email addresses in your internet temp folders and mails random files from your computer. Could be spreadsheets, private documents or porn. The virus comes with a message like: "I hope you like this file" or "I need your help on this file". It doesn't send to the addresses in your mail program but looks for addresses in websites you've visited - like message boards =80 Word to the wise.

RE: My computer caught a virus!
If you are running anti-virus software and stay current on the pattern files, you rarely have to worry about opening an attachment from an e-mail. This assumes that your antivirus configuration is set to check the file for viruses before allowing it to open.

W32.Magistr.24876@mm was the one I had. The Norton Anti-Virus seemed to have cleaned the computer up.

RE: My computer caught a virus!
Hi all..I just got back from a 10 day, updated my Norton Antivirus program, checked my e-mail, opened an attachment (I know, I know) from my partner about the physiology of abused kids (we were talking about it on the 10 day) and proceeded to get the W32.SircamWorm@mm virus/worm.......this will come as an e-mail from someone you know, that's what's makes it dangerous.

Check out this site to see what's it's all about.......

http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2792260,00.html?chkpt=zdnnp1tp02

Having an antivirus program may not help....I updated my program before I opened any mail and I still got it. I ran the antivirus program after I was infected and it cleaned it up, but I got lucky, 1 in 33 could end up with all the files on their hard drive erased (a baaad thing) I also use GoBack and just to be sure I went back in time to the point just before I received the e-mail.

I have not sent any attachments out to anyone, so if you get an e-mail from me with one, do not open it! This thing goes through your address book and randomly sends out the virus to some of your friends. This thing is spreading very fast....watch out.

Man, things were a lot easier and simpler when I was up in the mountains.

RE: My computer caught a virus!
We got the Sircamworm on a computer at work...locked it up completely. Glad it wasn't at home where there are no computer gurus to fix it!
