Walking stick medicine?
I have a walking stick that my Grandfather bought for me on our las trip together(he's no longer with us) It is like 10 yrs old and it finally split on the bottom of it. It is not deep or all the way thru yet but I want to fix it so on my first trip with my future grandson I can give it to him.
This "stick" has been all over the world from the top of Mt Choksan in S. Korea to an Aztec ruin in C. America so it has alot of memories for me as well. I just can't get rid of it and get some new high tech thing.
I tried to fill the split with wood putty and wrapped about 4 inches above and below it with hemp that is also wood glued on.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

RE: Walking stick medicine?
Ditch the hemp (its swells when wet). Take some sinew (dried animal tendon available at craft shops) and soak the sinew to give it extra elasticity. Then wrap it tightly (very tightly) around the split portion going beyond the split by a few inches. Oh yeah,if possible get rid of the putty and wood glue ( a soak in warm water should work). After the sinew is wrapped lay the stick in the sun and let it dry. As the sinew dries it will shrink and really tighten up. If you cant find sinew email me. I have a bunch and will be happy to send it along your way!

I will give that a try. I will post the results of the surgery after the patient comes out of recovery. I will make sure he is up and walking.

RE: Walking stick medicine?
Just a quick update: The stick and the sinew seem to have bonded well but they are still in dry recovery. I did though take the anistetic(Rogue Dead Guy Ale) quite well. We are starting physical therapy tomorrow morning. We are doing the wildlife preserve(5.5 miles) as a short walk. I am just trying to get him back on his leg again as quickly as possible. I will post further updates as they develop. On a serious note: I deeply apprecaite the help offered. Thats why i posted here 'cause ya'll seemed like the true experts not like the other message boards out there.

Sometimes you have to get lost to find yourself. Peace
