RE: Solo lighting
I carry a two cell AAA mini-mag flashlight with a ink pen like clip to clip it on the bill of my cap to make it a headlamp. For backup, instead of carrying extra batteries and bulbs, only carry a one cell AAA mini-mag light.

RE: Solo lighting
Yeah Rad, the Micro-Light III looks cool. High, medium and low brightness, 3 strobe speed and an auto-shutoff.

II features

RE: Solo lighting
I carry the Petzl Tikka and Photon Micro-light.

I'm taking two on our long trip, unless I can find a screwdriver that fits and doesn't weigh more than another light.

RE: Solo lighting
The III is also 2.5 times the price of the II. $25.95 vs. $9.95.

I have the Princeton Tec Matrix. If I had it to do over, I'd get the Petzl Tikka. About the only thing I do not like about the Tikka is the lack of waterproofness, but I'd still get it. I mean really....how many times am I backpacking in water over my head?

RE: Solo lighting
So yer saying the Tikka ISN'T waterproof?

What about the Zipka?

I tried the 3-inch long ?Mini-Maglights..but they're only good for about 6-feet in front of you.

RE: Solo lighting
Rad- no problem. I have the blue Micro-Light II and it seems plenty bright enough when it's dark. But of course, that's just my opinion.

RE: Solo lighting
i like the red to read at night--no bugs. I like the white to find things in the dark--the red does not let you see colors and you can not find anything with it.

RE: Solo lighting
Tikka, with a 1-cell AAA Mini-Mag for backup or directed use, since they share the same batteries, for hiking.

For canoeing, though, I'll probably stick with my Princeton-Tec Solo, since it is waterproof, with a 2-cell AA Mini-Mag for backup, again for battery compatibility sake.

RE: Solo lighting
ooops. Rad, When we were at the Fiery Gizzard Naked Ape had a blue and white and I had a yellow. I liked the blue the best, it lit everything up better then the rest in my opinion. The white would be needed to determine colors but did not illuminate any better. The yellow paled in comparison in my opinion.

the yellow was designed to be less powerful.

were the white and the blue, equally bright?

RE: Solo lighting
In my opinion they were. I know by the charts they aren't. I don't think I would care for the auto shut off on the III. There are times that I have mine on and hanging around my neck for quite a time while doing things and wouldn't want to have to continually turn it back on.

RE: Solo lighting
Just read a review of a new light on that other BP site.

www.lazerbrite.com

Anybody had any experience with it? Is it worth adding to my growing light collection?

Another possibility is www.neontrim.com. You could wrap your tent in this stuff and open up a small Las Vegas in the woods!
