The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I'm thinking about buying a midsized half camper. My current Krazy Kamper XT-4001 is just too cumbersome backing into those small sites, and sometimes I get the wheels stuck in the mud. I'm looking for decent size with cable, internet, phone, water, gas and electric hookups. I'm willing to sacrifice the sattilite dish to save on weight. Does anybody have any suggestions?” 2:42:13 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Oh, also, how many fold up picninc tables do you usually bring, I am saving 2 lbs. by using titanium tables instead of aluminum.” 2:44:24 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “LOL,.....youz crazy...lol” 2:48:40 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Big Foot - Youz is plural, y'all.” 2:54:59 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “He is to big a mess to just be one of `em..lol” 2:59:25 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Does anyone ever take a chainsaw/wood splitter combo with them on the campground? I've been stuck quite a few times when the local BP runs out of $5.00 bundles of wood, it really comes in handy!” 3:05:51 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Aluminum beer cans instead of bottles can really help cut down on weight; bring all your food stuffs (i.e. your marinating steaks in zip lock bags instead of tupperware, etc) in flammable materials so you can just chuck it all in the campfire instead of carrying it around until you find a garbage can (don't even start with recycling bins); two 30 round clips usually suffices instead of carrying your ammo in those steel army surplus boxes; sunday newspapers for firestarter rather than liquid starter. Oh man, the opportunies are endless. I wonder if GoLite could help with the camper? hmmmm...” 3:06:14 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Thanks rockbuck, I also try to remove the bones from the steak before marinadeing to cut down on some weight. We even left the punchbowl home last time and it created a world of room!” 3:09:32 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I find that those cheesy plastic string of lanterns are much lighter (and less fragile) than the old glass variety.” 3:13:07 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “True, but have you tried christmas lights - even lighter!” 3:30:10 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Try using that new inflatable furniture that just came out instead of hauling an old sofa to sit on under the awning.” 3:36:34 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I wonder if it would be lighter to just bring a keg rather than all those individual cans?” 3:40:51 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “LOL,.....and I thought it was just me,...LOL” 3:45:51 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Those disposable foam earplugs are smaller and lighter than the full size 'ear muff' style protectors.” 4:19:32 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “You can compress the diameter of your rolled up sleeping bag by running over it with your car.” 4:29:20 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “You CANNOT sacrifice the sattelite dish. How else would you spend your time besides sitting in front of the television in your camper. Don't forget the built-in stereo w/ subwoofer too. You know how the other campers love to hear you jam your Motown music.” 4:33:18 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Although it takes up space, an accordian placed on your picnic table will keep the campsites on either side vacant.” 4:33:23 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “How could I forget the stereo/dvd combo! I also use at least 20 tiki torches, just for style!” 4:58:29 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Motown, accordians? 80s heavy metal is where its at for a solitary wilderness experience. That and lots of beer...domestic.” 4:59:02 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Nah. That stuff will draw a crowd in a lot of places rockbuck. They be pissing on your tent and spewing mud all over you with their pick-up truck tires in a flash.” 5:03:40 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Just fire up the karoke(sp) machine, then you'll really feel at home!” 5:05:24 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Well, that pissing thing isn't too cool but isn't doing donuts around the camfire what it's all about? Sheesh, next thing you know you're gonna try and tell me it's uncivilized to plink beer cans with a .22 from my lounge chair!” 5:23:16 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “By all means Buddah, take your golf cart with you. You will not shed that much weight by leaving it at home. Besides, no one should have to walk 30 ft. to get to the bath house. That's driving distance.” 5:29:52 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “We only bring the golf cart if the campground roads are paved. When we rough it, and the roads are gravel or dirt, I usually pack up the ATV or my 79' Suzuki dirtbike.” 5:32:06 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Seriously though, 10 Bug Zappers is too many. You can keep everybody awake at night just as easily with 8 or 9. That would be a possible weight savings of anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs. depending on the mfr.” 5:37:24 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “lol rabbit! My goal is to get my weight down to 1,500 lbs. including camper. I save gas that way!” 5:39:09 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Try drilling holes in the handle of your toothbrush. I did that and gained about 3 miles per gallon. Every little bit helps.” 5:44:18 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “This thread is a prime example of why I love this place. You boys have me laughin' so hard right now. Work has never been more hilarious. Most of these camper shell campers are my relatives!” 6:16:35 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “ ![]() Now this is the car campin' I'm talkin' about!” 6:51:01 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “ ![]() A classic!” 6:53:49 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “That's not camping that's my house! I can tell because that's my t-shirt hanging on the clothesline.” 7:02:28 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “That's not a t-shirt, it's a siltarp.” 7:04:05 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I replaced my awning with a ID silawning, saving myself about 90 pounds. I've also replaced all the steel wheels with aluminum, I couldn't afford the titanium models yet. I cool idea to dave weight is to drink hard liquor instead of beer. When you consider the percentage of alcohol in Everclear to the amount in Budwiser you see that you need a lot less for the same effect. Heavy weight car campers are often hostile to me. They can't belive that my ultralight car gear can be as good as their heavy stuff.” 10:00:47 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I hear the Yugo is pretty light. Don't forget the leather seats.” 10:07:05 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “I'm curious... Do you still bring the queen size mattress or have you opted for the infatable double size mattress? If so, what was Pamela Sue's reaction? Oh! And you can save weight if you ask the female soccer team to leave their balls at home. =8']” 10:16:10 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Hey!!!! I think I see a dishwasher in the car camp, cool. Hubby has a friend that just bought a camper. He's having the best time finding pull ins with a pool, satellite tv AND a grocery store! AND if that's not heaven enough, some sites come with a miniature golf course.” 10:23:16 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “You can save weight on hauling firewood by bringing a chainsaw, I am surprised no one has suggested this yet.” 11:04:19 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “i think that was mentioned earlier ... gc” 11:09:02 PM 8/01/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Wholly smokes LH, satellite tv & a pool, that's like disneyland. And a silawning, too much Sarge, that's hilarious! I wonder if they make kiddie pools out of that material? hmmmmmmm” 12:37:02 AM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Kiddie pools? sure! just get one of those collapseable camp buckets. Just be sure to get the "family size" one.” 11:38:29 AM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Or use a trash bag, set your webbed chair in it, and fill it to your chin. Gotta have "full hook-ups" for this one though.” 11:58:45 AM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Brng the "Inflatable Olga" instead of the wife.” 2:47:44 PM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “That would save a lot of unnecessary weight!” 3:30:06 PM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Remove all the unneccesary parts of your car. Fenders, bumpers, all the glass, the paint, antenna, back seats, spare tire, headlights, roof, hood, and anything else you can think of.” 4:20:37 PM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Great idea Tahoe! Just think of the weight savings between wearing swim goggles while driving and the glass alone!” 5:10:37 PM 8/02/01 RE: The lightweight Car Campin Thread “Man, this is probably one of the funniest threads I have ever read on this site! Good one Buddha!” 1:56:29 PM 8/03/01
