Bald is Beautiful!!
Just had to share this with everyone 'cause if I ever manage to go hiking with any of you this year it'll be pretty obvious!
Every year, our local detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police(federal police) challenges the fire, ambulance and provincial conservation dept's to raise money for cancer research by shaving their heads. We managed to raise over $25,000 today by shaving 60 heads and waxing one guy's body. My ambulance partner & I were the only brave souls from our service, but everyone else chipped in.
So now I'm bald... no more long hair for me... but hey! It's for a really good cause & it'll grow back... I'll send a pic to Phil as soon as they're scanned for you guys to chuckle at...
Here's hoping that maybe one day we'll actually be able to stop cancer before it invades people's bodies and wreaks havoc with their lives...

Medic_girl, you rock! I did the same thing in high school but not for any worthy cause. Your hair is going to grow back soft as a baby's. You'll be surprised how fast it will grow. That's a great idea for fund raising.

Now that is brave! I hope you have lots of hats and sunscreen. It will grow back to be a pretty cap by winter. Your kids will think you are the coolest!

What a thoughtful thing to do. I love having my head shaved, you might as well. Very liberating. I do it from the day I'm off of work until we go back. I told my wife that this time, I might keep it like this all the time. The kids at school would get a kick outta it. I have to say, you one of the great ones on this board, Medic Girl!

RE: Bald is Beautiful!!
LOL @ you Buddur! I'm no where close to bald(genetics wise anyhow)...
Don't worry guys, I'm doing the sunscreen thing... it'd be pretty ironic if I got skin cancer from shaving my head for cancer research, now wouldn't it? ;-)
Laqtis... you're right, it IS a very liberating experience! No more having to brush out the tangles after my shower, or having 'bad hair days'!

Very cool MG, do you look like segourney Weaver now? Kudos to showing all what is truly important.

I have been shaving my head for about 5 years now, although for selfish reasons. No brush, no comb, no shampoo, no conditioner, no tangles, no bad hair days, no morning hair...just extra razors.

Medic Girl - I was wondering how your hair was doing since you shaved your head last August. Any report?

When I had chemo and radiation the hair on my entire body fell out not just on my head. It happens about 7 days after the first treatment. It was kind of different not having to shave or comb my hair in the morning. It's probably the mildest side effect of cancer treatment. The rest are terrible.
