Down From the Mountain
Anyone else seen this yet? Running girl and I went last night and saw it. It was the first night it showed here in this area and we were 2 of the 6 people in the theater. If you like Bluegrass and Old-time Mountain music, it is a must see. It is a film of a concert performed by the makers of the music of O' Brother Where Art Thou?. It has rehearsal/interview clips with the musicians and then the concert. It was really good. Most of the music from the movie sound track and some other songs are performed. If you go, stay through the credits to hear the entire "I'll Fly Away" and a small clip with them singing. If you don't like this kind of music, you probably won't like the film.

baume 66 - Unfortunately for me, this is not showing anywhere in my area. I am truly bummed. I would love to see it!

Dan Tyminski, Alison Kraus, Emmylou and Gillian all have wonderfully haunting voices!

RE: Down From the Mountain
Check the theaters that show more "artsy" or independent films--it is only showing in one theater in this booming metropolis known as Richmond. RUSH HOUR II is showing on two screens in every bloody cinema around! Down from the Mountain was awesome!

Damn, baume. All this talk has kicked me in the butt. I saw the movie once. Fell in love with it along with the music. Something 'bout it touches the mountian boy in me. My family comes from Harriman, TN and everytime I vist, I want to move. My wife and I have thoughts about leavin' the 'burbs and makin' way, straight be line for the hills of the Smokies. Funny, she's never been there, but she'll follow. I just got back from buying the soundtrack, sippin' a beer and dreamin...

Thanks. I had already checked the website. Nothing too close to us. Not sure if we'll be making a three hour trip to see a film.

Thanks again!

It sounds like you're into Bluegrass, so perhaps you can help. While working on the Continental Divide Trail recently, I heard Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train' performed by The Yonder Mountain String Band. It was a live version. I have been unable to find it and was curious to know if you, or any other Bluegrass fans are familiar with it???

I found their website, as well as several live CD's by the band, but nothing with Crazy Train on it.

Baume, did Ralph call "Amazing Grace" for you all to sing? I thought that was the craziest, coolest thing I've ever seen done at a concert. I think that was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Hope you enjoyed it too!
