Krill lamp
Don't get excited, I know it looks like a BOB, but it's a lamp.

I thought I'd seen a thread in the past on Krill lamps, but a search of old threads didn't find one. Does anybody own one? How do you like it?

RE: Krill lamps
I have one and enjoy using it in the tent at night. Similar to a glow stick. Uses very little power.

RE: Krill lamps
Cool, mozark. Does it put off enough light to read by?

RE: Krill lamps
I bet it costs more than that quarter. What powers it? Details, details please!

RE: Krill lamps
You can read by it if you hold it close to the paper or map.

It is powered by two AA batteries. Lithium last a very very very long time (100+hrs). I lose track of the hours on them. Only my daughter has been able to run down a set of batteries using it for a night light at home.

RE: Krill lamps
You will go blind trying to read with one of these. Don't waste your money.

RE: Krill lamps
I own a 180 extreme and have read with it many times, and I still ain't blind ;^)

Honestly, the above info is correct about the hours off lithium. Mine weighs 1.9oz with 2AA Lithium batteries.

If you just want to read with one, the 180 extreme is the way to go because you can hold it over the book with the light over the page, but you will have to hold it over the page. Even the brightest 180 extreme isn't bright enough to read by unless it is inches above the page.

If you want to use it as a lantern, it isn't bright enough. If you really are concerned about weight, then get a Lithium LED at .3 ounces that has 50 hours of light off two PA2013 Lithum batteries.

The luminosity technology is very cool and I think someday it may be efficent enough for replacing candle lanterns, but not yet. So on this part I agree with bacpac - if you want a bright light, don't waste your money.

I can't read with a candle lantern, but theerer is no substitute on a cold morning. It is amazing how much a candle lantern will warm a tent.

RE: Krill lamps
I honestly don't reccomend candle lanterns, to me they aren't worth the fuss, but I guess in winter they make a nice extra source of heat. I just can't imagine all that weight to just make some light. But I'm also a kindalighter.

RE: Krill lamps
I like my krill lamps. They're not bright, but if you have decent eyesight, you can read by them without problem.

One thing about them: they don't spoil your night vision!
