Permits: How to get one
does anyone know how to go about getting a permit to hike in the water hole canyon in northern AZ? i think its Navajo territory and i don't want to offend anyone. I cant find any info on who issues the permits. Anyone out there know something about this?

Normally the way you get a permit is you show up and if there's someone out there at the gate, you buy one

They might charge you $5/person, $10 a carload, a 6 pack of beer...

Try the Kaibab National Forest--800 S 6th St Williams AZ 86046 (520) 635-2681 for more info

RE: Permits: How to get one
Apollonia- next time title the thread AZ Permits Ü

The Navajo Res is not that well-organized, my Dad & I drove all the way out to Antelope Canyon one time only to find the gate locked and no one in sight (there's a little shack out there where they sit and take your money). We considered hiking in, 4-5? miles, but we didn't want to run into someone who would be pissed off that we hadn't bought a permit..
So we ended up driving back, sans Antelope Canyon views (I still haven't seen it)

Later, we asked a ranger at the N. Rim what was up and he said it was their off-season (they were closed)...there were no signs or anything. Most of the places on the res (Antelope Canyon, Canyon de Chelley, etc.) are in the middle of nowhere and/or its not real clear how to get there or what to do unless you ask someone. Are you getting the pic?

If you are going to Jacobs Lake/the N. Rim of the Grand Canyon anyway, ask a ranger up there before you go anywhere. They should be able to tell you where to go and what to do. That's about all I can tell you. Good luck, and don't stop at any bars if you're by yourself Ü (or period)
MaryPhyl might have something more to say about it...she lives or works or something in Cameron.
