Alright MarkO, name one person in congress who paid a majority of people to vote for them?

I'd really like this info, I want to know what the going rate for my vote is.

And why haven't you taken your info on buying votes to the news media.

sarge, I know all of that. How many times have you received anything from your Sen or Rep about an upcoming vote and they wanted to know what you and the rest of the people thought. Chances are slim and none. They think once they get there they don't have to do anything for you unless you are sliding money across their hands.

Ewk - actually I get them pretty frequently. That being said, I don't want them to do that. They were elected to make decisions on all of the information, not by a majority vote of uniformed junk mail responders.

Ewker, I'm trying to figure out what the heck you're thinking. It's the voters job to check out the positions, character etc... etc.. of the people on the ballot. Someone who has money to run a lot of ads just makes it easier for you to get that info. It doesn't preclude the voters responsibility to get that information for all of the candidates and then make a decision.

Ewker, if you don't feel that you're getting the representation that you're entitled to, vote for someone else or run yourself. Don't sit around and #&%!$ about the system.

Ewker, anybody who meets the qualifications (and income isn't a qualification anywhere)can register to get on a ballot and collect the necessary signatures, it takes a lot of time, not a lot of money. And you can always knock on doors and make phone calls, you don't need ten million to get the word out.

My God Ewker! there are tons of them! Most people in the Congress are not millionaires or close to it.

In the last congress there were only 71 of 435 members who had a net worth of one million or more. And 28 of 100 in the Senate.
Bison

And don't look at the average net worth, the really rich ones (Like your heroes John Kerry/Ted Kennedy) skew the numbers quite a bit.

Jimmy Carter from a below average income family???

Didn't they own a peanut plantation???

The Carters were not sharecroppers, were they?

They were poor. No running water. No electricity.

Took advantage of gov't farming programs b/c they needed money.

Only mules helped to till the land.
