What Happened to Edwards IMAX?

“Wanted to go see the IMAX movie "Galapagos" here in California and Edwards is no longer affiliated with IMAX. I missed what happened. Anyone know? (I guess Edwards handled IMAX in about three states).

Also: Anyone see Galapagos?”

“I don't know about them Phil but sometimes I wonder what happened to Edward Scissorhands.”

“Edwards went Bankrupt (ch11). Part of their reorgization involves tearing down those dollar houses. It's sad to see IMAX on the chopping block. I heard that they might sell it off to a third party.”

“Wow! Edwards is big. I wonder why they are in trouble? (too much expansion??)

“Yeah, it happened a while ago. They're not alone either. There were a few theatre chains that went BK. You got it, too much expansion. Those MEGA MEGA complexes weren't such a good idea afterall. -Studio's can't produce films fast enough it seems. And even if they could are there enough people going to the movies that often?”

“Yes, overexpansion, and super high salaries for all of the family members.”

“These theaters need a big name action thriller shot in their format, something along the lines of StarWars or Saving Private Ryan. The Rolling Stones did a concert film (Stones to the MAX) which took advantage of the (often) awesome sound systems these theaters have.
IMAX films (generally) have been supported by educational institutions and are relatively short documentaries. Any one see EVEREST? Now that one one heck of an IMAX Experience!”
