off they fly...
My oldest son just got his drivers license and we helped him buy an old car yesterday.

I just watched him drive off in his car for the first time. He looked years older. I remember standing in the same spot watching him get on the bus for the first time.
How soon they grow up!

I feel your pain/joy/pride/worry. They grow up fast. Watching them grow is a real pleasure. Keep the faith.

*sigh* But just think, those tender feelings will pass when he starts hitting you up for gas money. Then the car will need repairs and he'll need a loan. He won't have quite enough for the insurance... Am I annoying you yet?! ;o)

My nephew passed me on less traveled road about a month back. You should have seen the expression on his face when he realized who he was passing. Priceless!! I just smiled and waved at all the girls in the car.

LOL Sunny.

I look at the tree in the back yard where the tree house was or the pink light switch with sparkles in the downstairs bedroom--little memories of my little people.

Le subtil - you've just given him a "vehicle" to pick up chicks. You're a darned good dad!

RE: off they fly...
I got up to say goodbye to my son and his friends. They are driving up to Oregon to move my son's girlfriend back from Oregon State.

Yes, they grow up fast.

We have 5 drivers in the family and 5 cars...ouch!

RE: off they fly...
Le Subtil, I left the house at 5:30 this morning to go pick up my new driver at camp. After driving 2 1/2 hours through fog, dancing deer, a road barricaded by geese, and the other general hazards of northwoods two-lane blacktop, I get to the camp with bleery eyes and actually looking forward to letting her drive home.

So what does she say, this kid who finally has her license after a year of pestering me for the keys everytime I visited so she could get practice time in? "I'm tired, I don't want to drive." LOL.

She napped most of the trip back while I slapped my face to keep my eyes straight!

BTW, what does your son's car look like. As the father of a teenaged daughter, I need to know what to watch for.
