What I leaned from TT
Honesty can be a liability.

Lying can be an asset.

If you question anyone, it is an attack.

If someone calls you dickless it is not because they are cuntless.

The silent majority is often silent.

Some people lack a sense of humor.

Anything goes as long as it is immoral or illegal.

Some people don't like me.

Some people do like me.

None of this matters :-)

RE: What I leaned from TT
bacpac, I agree with you sometimes, and I disagree with you sometimes, and sometimes it is the tactics, not the central idea, with which I have a problem. The medium also muddies the message; for example, sarcasm on the web is dangerous territory, even with emoticons.

As for question/attack issue, how the question is presented or phrased is the key: Some questions seek information, others are really commentary disguised as inquiries, and commentary, by nature, is not neutral. Unfortunately, the most common pattern in interpersonal exchanges where a question is used as a disguised commentary or evaluative statement is to attack or denigrate.

(There, just another warm-up for my fall communication classes -- credit available if you pay the fees, LOL.)

RE: What I leaned from TT
I`ve learned not to take everything so serious.
I`ve learned you can`t care about others until you first learn to care for yourself.
I`ve learned two wrongs won`t make it right.
I`ve learned everyone has something to say, if given the chance.
I`ve learned we can`t all type, or spell good.
I`ve learned the lighter side of a bad moment.
I`ve learned keeping my big mouth shut and keeping my head down draws less fire.
I`ve learned that there are some people that will argue with a fence post, or with anyone on TT.
I`ve also learned that nothing actually matters much that I can do as a person in the big picture.
I`ve learned from my mistakes, it`s a hard lesson, but a great teacher.
I`ve learned to let things go in one ear and out the other.
I`ve learned how to walk again and in time I`ll learn how to be happy once more.
Now,.....if I could just learn to quit posting to these threads.LOL

Did you also learn that being an ignorant, redneck, racist doesn't fly with some of us Jive Turkeys backpackers?

Anyone here about the plane that went down on the AT in MD? they closed the trail in that area! So what the hell with the Thru hikers do now? I would be pissed if I couldn't hike the whole AT because the police need to investigate. It's like accidents on the beltway, they close everything down in the middle of rush hour... sorry it just pisses me off!

It`s one thing to look and yet another thing to see
what you make of a thing may not be what it is to me
both of us looking and not seeing it just right
should lead us to understanding it, not a fight
but, if it`s a fight you want, then just feel free
this is the right place for that stuff, here on TT

RE: What I leaned from TT
Didn't you all pick up a copy of these rules when you were born?

Rules for Being Human

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.

2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately "works".

4. A lesson is repeated until it is learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you will then go on to the next lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better place that "here". When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here".

7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.

8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9. The answers lie inside you. The answers to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

10. You will forget all this.

Oh, I guess #10 explains it all.

I hate false truisms!
I like the list Kleetn, and think #7 is a useful thing to keep in mind... but it ain't true.

We can hate things that hurt us or resemble what has hurt us, and can love things that have been good to us or resemble it. In fact, I think this pleasure or pain link to love and hate comes way before the more "psychological" love and hate in #7.

BP,
I agree with you sometimes and sometimes I don't, but that's what makes people different.

I respect your opinion, right or wrong.

I try to have a sense of humor and remember not to attack.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Think before I speak and pick my battles.

Not everything is worth arguing about.

I still hate generators.......

wsexson, I'm sorry you feel that way but I can't say I share the opinion. Honesty has ALWAYS worked for me and honesty benefitted anyone who wanted to work for me. If I caught someone lying to me they were fired on the spot. I can't afford dishonesty.
