Right now I am hoisting a Mountain Dew, earlier I carved off a hunk of my aunt's Fruitcake (its fermenting quite nicely) but tonight at 10:30 I will offer up something more substantial.

Diet Pepsi for me...

Sass' work party tonite. Should be good. Something about a piano bar and free drinks. I dont see any danger at all.

I would like to get into the home brew thing. But no money for it ATM.

I have no equipment which is, as I understand it, the pricey part.

I noticed CVS and discount stores were selling a simple kit, complete w/ bottles. Maybe a way to get started for not much money?

I've got myself a Jones Strawberry Lime soda. It's so good it makes my teeth hurt. Gotta hydrate before tonight. ;)

Combining drugstores and drinking in the same post reminded me of a guy I knew years ago.   He got a job right out of college teaching sixth grade English..... and he caught the kids in the back of the class drinking SCOPE.

At least scope is safer than sterno.

Yes. There is some investment in equipment when home brewing. You can do what I did and find people who used to do it, but stopped. Get them all excited about doing it again, and then mooch equipment and expertise!

We have a pretty nice set-up going and can brew up to 15 gallons at a go. We do all grain wort and no kits (canned malt extract). That is a lot of 22 oz. bottles to clean each time! Eventually, we plan to just keg our beers and each of us will have a kegerator at our homes.

The drag right now is that hops is in short supply and sorta expensive (about $2-3 oz. vs. a $1 six mos ago), and you can only by a certain amount at the local supplier's at a time.

I heard about the hops shortage on the news a few weeks ago. Its affecting the CO microbrewers - AND our store prices.

. . tell me more about what a bunch of drunk masseurs do at the christmas party.

Start slow, and pick up speed as you go along . . .

Roseymonster, grow your own hops. Pinetree gardens sells hops rhizomes for fairly cheap. Several varieties, too.

Yah. We are talking about it. However, I believe there is a two to three year timeframe before you can obtain a harvest.

I'll have to check on that. I think the harvest time can be goosed a bit.

This statement sounds like a crop in your second year, and getting several crops in one year if you pick them as they mature.

Also, www.superseeds.com has 4 or 5 varieties of hops rhizomes available.

Insteresting. The cutivation process is not unlike another plant of the same genus. Just what I have heard.
