must spend more money
Okay, I need a new pack and I figure I should start looking now with intent on convincing myself to buy it later. So far I've narrowed it down to the Arc'teryx Bora 95 and the Vortex 5800. Both are similar in price and in size and I've found great reviews on both. Anybody with experience with either care to share?

I recon I'll get a Gregory of some kind for my next pack. I don't know anything about the packs you ask about. I will bring your thread back to the top to get noticed though.

And Mather as the Beaver!

Take a look at the Osprey Packs before you make up your mind. I have an old Finesse Pro pack. Very well made, may last forever!

The best pack I ever had was a bargin bin EMS Alpine pack I got for $70! I leant it to someone and now it's no more!

Arc'Teryx makes a great pack, but unless you can go to Canada and buy it, I think they're overpriced. I would go with the made in USA Vortex. I'm not saying that you should buy it because it's made in the US, but if it should need repair at least the factory is here.

The Vortex warranty can't be beat. It's an unconditional guarantee; as long as the pack is repairable, they'll fix it for free, no matter whose at fault for the damage. Where else you gonna find something like that?

I would check out Serratus at MEC. Supposed to be a badass pack for cheap on the CAN to US rate exchange.

baume, you can max it out to 4900 ci.

i've had it compress down to what i think to be about 2500, and still keep it's shape and balance.

Well, I think I may have found a third contender. It's the Mountain Smith Specter. It's 5600 ci and only 4 pounds.
The biggest thing I'm looking for is that ability to use the pack for future mountaineering trips or other winter trips that require more room for the more equipment.

All of that Mountainsmith light stuff looks really cool. It is not particularly cheap though. Okay, here it goes I'm doing my first link:

Geez, I hope that worked and I don't look like an a$$.

Hey Tarp Rat, I just checked out Osprey. I think I'll head up to a dealer and try one on before I decide. That Crescent 90 looks pretty bad assed.
