Sierra Anyone? “In the words of the immortal Eddie Money, "I've got two tickets to Paradise..." Well four, actually. And it's not for Paradise, but the Sierra which is close enough. 8/25 - 9/1 Kearsarge over Glenn Pass to Rae Lakes, maybe then to Baxter (who knows, probably an out-and-back.) 9/9 - 9/15 Ansel Adams Wilderness. Minarets, Ritter and Banner peaks, maybe all the way to Donohue pass. An out-and-back deal. The permit requests are in, but I'll adjust departure to get 'em if needed. Wanna go? Anybody, anybody? :) tekapo@mediaone.net” 4:30:56 PM 8/14/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “tekapo- these are some long trips...do you do any weekenders? Also, can you give some kind of rating on your hikes (em me)? thanks!” 11:42:55 PM 8/14/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Weekenders are good. Although, it would be great to get out further up North more often. IMO, one full day in the Sierra is better than two days of dayhiking in the SoCal mountains. There's a hiking club I've been involved with in the past called SoCal Hikers. They go everywhere every weekend it seems. SnowNymph and wingding, among others are in that club too. Moderate to rigorous I suppose. 6 to 12 miles per day is a good comfort range, but I tend to lag behind to get the most out of a trip. I'm drawn to dramatic terrain and higher elevations, but really love a nice wide open meadow and rushing cascades.” 12:30:29 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “tepako, one of these days I'm gonna quit my job and do just that..” 12:35:06 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “I'm interested in weekend trips too.” 1:01:39 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Until then, you're welcome to join me on any one of my trips coming up.” 1:04:46 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Wingding, are you heading up there this weekend?” 1:08:30 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “tepako- I will be joining you on at least one of em....keep posting the t.d.'s” 1:13:05 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “I only dayhike SoCal when the roads are closed in the Sierras. Other than that, I make the drive to the Sierras every weekend....this weekend is 41 consecutive weekends out in the mountains, and only 10 of those wkends were local. I was able to do some snowshoeing in the Sierras where I could drive in. Early on this season the snow in Mammoth sucked. So I dayhiked with the SoCal hikers until the roads to the Sierras opened. But given local mountains or Sierras.....no comparison. SoCal hikers are a fun group, I enjoy the company, but I can't hike the same peak weekend after weekend after weekend. But then, most people don't want to drive to the Sierras every weekend. I guess I'm obsessed with high altitude and alpine lakes. Same msg as Tepako, you're welcome to join me on any upcoming trips. Unless I have a big group going, I pick up a permit on Saturday morning. I'm always out there.” 1:44:41 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Snow Nymph- R u obsessed?” 1:48:30 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Uh huh....Palisade Glacier this weekend, then the following weekend starts a 30 day vacation with no showers and no bathrooms and no cars and no electricity and freeze-dried food every meal and .... and ... and ... most people think I'm outta my mind....” 2:16:24 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “We all wish we were that crazy!” 3:39:07 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “my kind of people Ü” 3:55:32 AM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Not this weekend. Next week I'm heading up to Yosemite to do some car camping with my son (he doesn't have any interest in backpacking). We have room for another tent at our Yosemite Valley site on the weekend of 8/25 if anyone is interested. I have trips planned for the weekend of 9/14 and 9/29, but other than that I'm interested in weekend Sierra trips during the months of September and October. Anyone interested in in Death Valley for September 29th and 30th to do Telescope Peak and some other exploring?” 2:24:15 PM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Snow Nymph: I'm sure that first hot shower after 30 days on the trail will feel heavenly.” 2:29:06 PM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? 11:32:13 PM 8/15/01 RE: Sierra Anyone? “Hey SnowNymph, here's an great shot of Mt. Sill from Thunderbolt: Mount Sill You mentioned you're heading out that way again this weekend.” 12:09:33 AM 8/16/01
