“RA - I just finished a book called, "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters." You might enjoy it. The stats in there scared the hell out of me.

“THe book was written by a female pediatrician. Her single biggest advice to keep your daughters away from sex, drugs, and alcohol, is a strong relationship with dad. She had some interesting conclusions, such as her opinion that depression is a teen STD. When young girls come in depressed, it almost always because they're very sexually active.”

day- yes - the things that were going on in high school in the 80's are now going on in middle school. But not with ALL the kids, but definitely some of them. Sarah has a good group of friends, which i think is key as well.”

One thing about all the news with celebrity girls (the speers girl in particular) having problems, having babies, etc is that it opens up a chance to talk about stuff that isn't so easy to bring up.

I tend to be very frank and honest about stuff with her - and her brother. Once they got over the shock of hearing me say stuff that was at first embarrassing, it gets pretty easy to talk about things.”

Around 9th grade the kids hormones are completely wacko-- Brain chemistry, puberty & everything catch up. They talk without forethought of consequences, they look grown, but are still a little kid inside....

Funny thing--within a year (by 10th grade), students get much more focused and polite!”
