Belly Button RingsView MessagesBelly Button Rings “I think belly button rings are gross. A real turn off. Anyone else?” 7:47:02 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “isn't the desire to get a belly-ring driven by some deep rooted, psychological desire for subservience? obviously not a strong trait.” 8:10:31 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “not as bad as a Prince Albert - I really twitch at the though of one of those rings” 8:13:00 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “but, with a keyring like THAT, at least you won't lose your keys!” 8:26:16 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Just be sure you don't leave the key in the door.” 8:55:36 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Sorry .. .gotta disagree . .. some flat bellied thanf with a bely ring (or bar per advent. girl) . .. she da bomb. or in my regular 36 yr old speak. I love looking a 20+ yr olds in their belly shirts with the bely button ring. Almost got thrown out of a strip bar at my bachelor's party for screaming "show us your ring" . . . hint . . .it weren't a belly button ring either.” 9:26:20 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Why do youngsters get tattooed or pierced? Males frequently report that it was for both personal and symbolic reasons, often to identify themselves to a particular group. Females, on the other hand, use tattooing "to establish personal uniqueness" as more important than the men did and attributed more importance to sexual aspects of their body markings. Neither reductionist nor constructionist paradigms are able to adequately account for what appears to be an increase in body modification practices in American culture as body piercing and tattooing seem to be a social act inscribed upon a biological phenomenon. What seems evident is that in traditional societies, ritual body modification practices connect people and their bodies to the reproduction of long established social positions whereas in the industrialized West, body piercing and tattooing seems to serve the function of individuating the self from society. Tattoos and piercings provide 'social cues' between people, and those partaking are marking themselves with indelible symbols of what they see themselves to be. Some theorize that it provides the means for an individual to attempt to forge a genuine mode of self-exploration which does not rely on the current authenticating narratives of fashion. Of course, now that every !$%& on the planet has a tattoo and/or a piercing, what's the point? I can't explain the tatoos but I got the navel ring because I thought it looked sexy. It hurt like hell though!!!” 10:46:10 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Dr.Laura...where do you plagiarize your material from? Most people get a tattoo because they want one. However most don't even know what kind of tattoo they will get till they go to a shop. Then, just because they want one, they pick a tattoo and get it without much more thought. And usually it's a small one because they don't want to invest very much money. There are way too many tattoo "artists" out there...and most of them suck at drawing. There are tons of artists that can draw, then there are the few that can draw images so real it's uncanny. It's just that everybody else is doing it!” 10:48:36 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I never where clothes that show off my belly button ring. In fact most people dont know I have one. For me it was somthing that I thought would be fun and it was like a secret on the whole world. Its like on the outside I look sweet and innocent, but Im really not. Some people think they are gross. Some think they are cool. But I dont care at all what others think, I did it for me and no one else. And just for the record It didnt hurt at all!” 11:05:38 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Mine hurt for a second. Like ear piercing. I have 3 in each ear and one belly ring.....but that's as far as I'll go.” 11:12:25 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Yeah Lee To me it doesn?t matter at all. Now tong rings on the other hand. Are just stupid. They aren't even a ring. There bad for your speech. Tattoos are dumb too. They may look kewl at age 20 but wait until your 80 will you even like the design, and if so it will look all wrinkly and crappy when your old.” 11:25:18 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I have a 5" rod that peirces my dong. The rod has a chain on each end whick connects to my belly ring. Then there is a Y chain that connects my belly ring to my two pierced nipple rings. I also have a hockey puck stuck thru my lip nad a tatoo on my arm that says "Eat at Joes"” 11:27:37 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Who doesn't?” 11:28:59 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Tattooing and piercing are ways of being "different", in my mind. Pierced ears were common, so people starting piercing three times or more, in each ear. And then other places. I'm not into it and I hope my kids don't do the more unusual piercings, but I don't think it's terrible. It's kinda like the boys having long hair when I was in high school. Then orange and green hair. Then cornrow hair. Fads are about everyone being "different" together. It's okay just to be "yourself" too. It's a pretty benign thing, as far as fads go. Better than designer drugs.” 11:44:31 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I, too, have a belly ring. I didn't think it hurt too much. I had considered a tattoo but thought that if I hated it down the road, it would be a pain to get rid of. On the other hand, a belly ring can be taken out at any point in time! I still consider a tattoo, but haven't figured out what it would be. I would never just pick one out of a book just cause I want one (like Buddur mentioned). I will wait until I find the right thing. I've already waited five years. If I never find it, I'll never get one. I am not opposed to any piercings or tattoos. If that is what someone wants to do to express themselves, then so be it. It's no different than wearing tons of makeup, dressing in funky clothes, etc... except that it's permanent. p.s. I think tattoos are sexy on men (and women too for that matter).” 11:47:12 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “For safety when climbing, I always use a belay button ring.” 11:54:42 AM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Here is a belly-pleasing yumblilicious appetizer! 4 medium avocados 1/2 tsp. salt 1 bunch chopped green onions with tops 8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded 1 c. sour cream 1 pkg. taco seasoning 2 Tbsp. lemon juice 1/4 tsp. Pepper 3 medium tomatoes, finely chopped 1 can chopped black olives 1/2 c. mayo 2 cans refried beans 1 pkg. tortilla chips Peel and mash avocado, mix with lemon juice, salt and pepper. Combine sour cream, mayonaise and taco mix. Ingredients will be divided over three pie pans. Repeat the following process for each pie pan. Spread refried beans first, top with avocado mix, then sour cream mixture. Sprinkle with onions, olives and tomatoes. Top with cheese, serve with tortilla chips. >burp!<” 12:00:46 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Oh gee I don't know... There is nothing more sexy than a pregnant woman with a belly button ring. Yeah at about 7 months it really starts to look good. Or maybe a woman, of the young age of 74, with pierced nipples, a tattoo around her navel (so stretched you can no longer tell what it used to be). Oh and she'll have a chain going from her nipples to her belly button ring then to her "snatch" ring.. The chain will only have to be 3 to 4 inches to reach everything... Oh YEAH BABY, now that's sexy.... 12:04:27 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “hey Slapmyselfraw -- there are websites that can cater to your exact fetish . . .don't forget to say "Thanks Al Gore"” 12:13:42 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “You know, I find it interesting that the women on here are much more accepting of the whole body piercing phenomena than men are. Why is that? Is it because we, as women can see the broader picture and don't rely quite as heavily on visual stimulation as men do? I myself have participated in both body piercing and tattooing. I can tell you that personally I didn't do it because it was a 'fad' or 'trend'... Dr. Laura(plagiarizer though she may be) was pretty close when she said: "Females, on the other hand, use tattooing "to establish personal uniqueness" as more important than the men did and attributed more importance to sexual aspects of their body markings." Just my $.02 worth, but why put down someone just because you don't like what they've done to their OWN body? After all, it's not like they're chasing after you with a 10g needle saying "Give me your belly button... now!" (Okay, so that's a little far-fetched... but you get my drift). :o)” 12:56:15 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings don't bother me one bit. “I also like belly button rings. I think they look good. My sister (16 yrs old) got one. I was a little surprised when I first saw it, but I think it is cool. Whatever she wants to do is fine. I have the conch of my ear pierced - yes, it hurt like all those things that hurt a lot - and I like it. I got it to celebrate my graduation and the paying off of my credit card. I have also thought about a tattoo, but the only reason I would actually do it was to commemorate some big occassion and the design would have to be my own. Body adornment and decoration? I have absolutely no problems with it. As long as the person doing it is aware of the issues (reactions from others, health, and how something will appear after the skin begins to sag, etc.) let them do as they wish. I think, in general, people get pierced and tattooed for themselves, not others. So most people who are adorned don't really care what others think.” 1:01:46 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Amen Oldie! After all, when we do it for ourselves, does it really matter what the unadorned think of it?” 1:10:00 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Oldie, I disagree somewhat when you say, "I think, in general, people get pierced and tattooed for themselves, not others." If that were the case, they wouldn't short shirts to show off the bellybutton rings and tank tops to display the tattoos. My .02 anyway.” 1:29:15 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I am one of the unadorned :-( I guess there is a label for everyone. What is a Prince Albert?” 1:39:02 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I guess I agree with the fad and "individual identity" theories. Throw a little "rebellion" in there as well. I have absolutely no desire to get poked with needles of any kind unless it is a medical necessity. I understand ear piercing for ear rings, but not the other piercings. I especially don't understand tongue piercing as well as lips and eyebrows. It seems to me that you could have some bad accident. With what I know about accidents just caused by finger rings, I would be worried about a major injury with scarring or worse from the other "rings". My son got one of those lower lip piercings with a stud coming out. I think it was because of peer pressure (coincidentally his girlfriend - who is extremely pretty and brilliant - has piercings and at least one tattoo).” 2:00:25 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I am also unadorned and am curious of what a Prince Albert is.” 2:23:21 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “it's when you get your 'unit' pierced, dude.” 3:05:57 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Kleetn - Not all people w/ piercings and tattos wear clothing to "show off" and "display" it. The only person that sees my belly ring is my boyfriend and anyone who may be around when I'm swimming. And, if I were to get a tattoo, the place I would like to have it isn't going to be very obvious cause most shirts and my long hair will cover it. So - it's not for others. It's for me. You either understand it or you don't.” 3:06:14 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Ice Tea, Get a blow job from a chick with a tounge ring and you will be singing a different tune. Just get a blow job from anyone and you will be singing a different tune!” 3:08:59 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “LOL @ Tarpy! Piercing and scarification is a ritual as old as modern humans. Nothing new here folks. Other cultures have been doing it for thousands of years.” 3:27:09 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Ice Tea, listen to Tarpy, he knows. As for peircings, it's all good except for the female version of Prince Albert. Ya get all scrathed up when the woman's astride.” 3:32:03 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Tarpy - While trying to remain discrete, is that the purpose of a tongue piercing? Or just a "by-product"? It is just hard to imagine having a tongue pierced.” 3:35:14 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “By-asset” 3:38:42 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I keep my Prince Albert in the can. HAHAHAHA” 3:53:50 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I can't hang with the piercing thing but I do appreciate well done tattoos. It just seems to me that with the sudden popularity the quality of most tattoos has hit rock bottom. Tattoos are forever so why get one from someplace akin to a flea market.” 3:54:20 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Phil, both!” 4:01:22 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “GOOD GOD PHIL!!!!! YOU! PLEASE . . . to preserve that (perhaps artificial) veil that separates you. .. holding you in an exalted position, above the fray and common vice that degenerates these threads, PHIL!!! If you must, if you feel compelled, to ask these questions . . .please, for the sake of those of us who want to believe, PLEASE . . .get another log in ID and ask your 'dirty' questions under it. Thank you.” 4:03:21 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Modern Primitives Rule!” 4:03:43 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “lee - Sorry. I wasn't trying to be "dirty", just understand. Being in California, a lot of my students have piercings and tattoos...some of which are quite strange. With three adult children still at home (24, 22 & 19), we've had a lot of discussions about piercings and tattoos. We "think" we kept our 22 yr. old from getting a tattoo, but then we are not 100% sure. Her best friend had her tongue pierced. My son got the chin piercing. I'll try not to burst your bubble again.” 4:27:27 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Different conversation. My Mom told me I would be sorry if I got a tattoo or pierced whatever so I didn't. I can not say it has changed my life.” 4:31:28 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “At the time my daughter was considering a tattoo, she was also considering drama as a career. I commented to her that in all the plays, shows, and parades I have seen, I never saw a performer with a tattoo. Even in Hollywood, visible tattoos are fairly scarce. She decided not to go the drama route, but she did back off from the tattoo at that time. FYI. I am at home writing a paper trying to stay cool. When I get bored I check the threads. When it cools off I will go to Disneyland.” 4:37:39 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “tarabull, you're right not all people wear clothing to show off their tats and piercings. Quite a few do, though. It's fine with me, like rosey said, nothing new here. All my uncles who were in the armed forces had tats, and my sisters, wife and daughter all have various body parts pierced. Whatever floats yer boat.” 6:10:00 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I love tatoos! Piercings scare me.” 6:18:54 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “The following is only to educate bacpac and baume 66 - no one else should follow this link - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - the following is very explicit picture of a Prince Albert ” 9:54:22 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “is that from the "peter jenkins" thread?” 10:07:00 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Don't you think humans should have a piece coming out the belly and hooking around the side into the back?” 10:49:16 PM 8/16/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “Wow, now they even have a word for those of us who haven't poked ourselves full of holes. We are "unadorned" With the negaive suffix it almost sounds like some think there is something wrong or lacking in not having studs or ink in us...hmmm what other reasons are there? To each his own I guess. I intend to remain "unadorned."” 12:48:51 AM 8/17/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “I once heard a guy got his pubes tangled up in one of those belly rings. Ouch.” 4:04:15 AM 8/17/01 RE: Belly Button Rings “sonrisas, we are merely archetypes, with no after-market options added.” 8:17:06 AM 8/17/01
