Better living without chemistry

“After 2 months and 2 trips, I finally got around to reading the owner's manual to my Kelty Dart2. Under Hazards and Other Concerns the manual recommends: "Sleep with your head uphill. At altitude you are going to have wild enough dreams without the extra kick of having your head downhill.(Intensely vivid dreams are commonly reported above 9,000 feet.) Whoooaaaahh man, I'm gonna try that; no chemical additives! Anybody have any experience with this? I'm going up next week and experiment!”

“Hold your breath until you pass out. What a rush!”

“Place your forehead on a bat or hiking pole and run around it 10 times. Try to walk.”

“This is interesting. While on the Llama trip, I commented to our group one morning at breakfast about how I was having and remembering dreams--when normally I never remember my dreams. One other person said they were having the same experience. We had been at or above 10,000 ft. for three days when we had this conversation.

“Phil, if you lay off the sauce you will be able to recall dreams.”

“Gonzo, I like the Dart 2. I had some condensation problems, but it wasn't that bad. It's really lightweight and is fairly roomy for solo use. You could sleep two if you had to. I might post more on this subject over on the Solo Tent thread--it looks like a controversy brewing there!”

“We were camped at about 9,600 feet this summer with my usual hiking buddy who brought along his 16 year old nephew. In the middle of the night the kid yells out in his sleep, "DUUUUDE!" It woke me up in my tent across camp (I thought he yelled "food"). The next morning he told us he dreamt that one of his friends bought him a car.”
