Bears, aggression, and pen!s injuries
Can you believe Matt's censorship filter won't let me write "pen!s"? FUK THAT FILTER!!!

Anyway, this quote is from Stephen Herrero's book "Bear Attacks: Their Causes and Avoidance," p. 209 (paperback edition):

"Most contact fighting leading to injuries between bears takes place between adult males during breeding season. Wounds and scarring can often be seen on the head, neck, and shoulder region of adult males. In addition to wounding in these areas, Lynn Rogers reported four cases of male black bears ages four to eleven having bone calluses on their pen!s bone, indicating mended fractures. He also observed a three-year-old male who during breeding season had a raw and swollen pen!s with the tip missing."

The tip missing? YIKES!

EEEEEEEEK!!

I've got that book. That's one scary piece of work!
That book is also why I do most of my hiking in bear country during the Winter. LOL

Yeah. the descriptions of some of the attacks in there are gruesome. I like the guy who had a bear munching on his ribcage after it had already gnawed off one of his arms and was able to play dead. He lived. I guess your body just goes into shock after a while.

It's hard to read some of those stories and say, "Hey, I wanna go hike in bear country. That book just flung a major cravin on me".
