The last backpacker mag or the one before that had some cures for that, I think one of them was a wiping down with a tucks medicated pad. It said the witch hazel in it would dry out the situation and give some pain relief. I think they come in sealed containers and or packages.

RE: Chaffing of the
Cyclists often use vaseline or noxema beforehand to keep the chafing down.

After a 12 mile road march in boot camp I had SERIOUS chaffing issues. My solution, no more skivvies. Problem solved, I didnt own them for 4 years.

Like some of you, the right clothes almost always prevents the problem. I found recently that Neutrogena hand ointment in the tube works great.

I hate to say it but I have had to go to ...um perform some barbering on the hair, then I switched to boxers or none at all.
The chafing can be expecially bad if you spend 8 hours in full firefighting gear.

RE: Chaffing of the
Get yourself a codpiece and fill it with Crisco. Does double duty - keeps the boys happy and you've got grease for sauteing in camp.

LOL!! I forgot about the banana hammock! A compression strap or ace bandage will work in a pinch (pun intended).

Please tell me the solution to this. What clothes are best. I've been telling the boys to wear running shorts with the package holder already in, or they wear boxers with them. Also told them to bring powder

RE: Chaffing of the
Never had the problem, maybe some baking soda and baby powder would do the trick. Wear better undies. I never wear boxers only polypro briefs.

RE: Chaffing of the
I told them Gold Bond powder - It worked at summer camp. "dust and fluff gentlemen"

I take it the polypro is better because it wicks away the mositure . . . . .

I hate talking with them about this. But necessary

RE: Chaffing of the
I find that synthetic briefs (I use DryLete from Hind) in combinations with compression shorts made from Intera (from McDavid) or lycra/spandex etc. under whatever hiking shorts will keep the boys happy and dry. Moisture is usually the culprit for me.

Just smear some 'Icy Hot' or 'Ben-Gay' on 'em. You'll never notice the chaffing!

RE: Chaffing of the
if you are going to be hot and "moist" use a lubricant (Vaseline)... Powder would become an abrasive... think Comet and steel wool.

It you are in a more comfortable environment, (non moist) use all the powder you want...
