RE: Labor Day Weekend
I'd like to the Long Trail or part of it eventually.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm going to have to think of something.

Ah... Ellicott Rock! I probably wouldn't have walked all that way if I had known it was only about the size of a breadbox, *G*.

Labor Day? Still processing; waiting for serendipity to strike.

Same here, Tilt...

Got no plans yet for the long weekend, but for anyone in the Central California/Bay Area sector, I'd sure be interested in getting together with a few to do a nice hike somewhere in the mountains...

I've got 6 days off over the holiday. Maybe one day hiking in the White's, a day for a family thing, then camping downeast - hiking, kayaking, and eating smoked salmon and giant lobster.

RE: Labor Day Weekend
Family Reunion time. Not hiking related, you say? Well, last time I found out that I have relatives just outside the entrance to Glacier NP. Nothing like shaking the extended family down for crash pads. Oh, yeah, I like 'em too.

If I get spontaneously ambitious, I just might get in my car and do the Mackinac Bridge walk. Gotta do it one of these years.

RE: Labor Day Weekend
LOL, Tilt......I guess a rock the size of a breadbox would be all my 87 year old mom may be able to take....doubt I would even expect her to walk there in the heat anyway!
I will be happy just to get those two slackers into the woods even if it is just a picnic table by a cool creek somewhere in that neck of the woods

If all falls into place, I hope to be far from the maddening crowds. Probably in the Sandias, my wife likes the idea of a 15 minute drive to the trailhead.

RE: Labor Day Weekend
A 15-minute drive? *grrrrrrrrrrrrr*

There is a place about 20 miles north of here with a couple of trails, flat as the day is long with no animals more adrenaline-inducing than Chip and Dale.

Now, if it'll only COOL DOWN a little...

Oops. I'll bet Disney has a copyright on those. Here comes the cease and desist letter.

I plan on climbing the 3 14'ers that I didn't climb on Saturday (Lincoln, Bross, & Democrat). I actually camped out above treeline and when I woke up, I basically said, "Screw it!" and left. How pathetic! Labor Day will be funnnnnnnnn!!!!

As tempting as it is, I am definitely NOT going into the woods with every other person in the country. Possibly the worst weekend of the year for, "getting away from it all."

I'm considering seriously a 3-day trek somewhere in Kings Canyon or Sequoia, but I'm not very familiar with potential opportunities there. Anyone have a suggestion?

Yosemite could work, too... maybe that Tuolumne Meadows hike I missed a couple weeks ago, due to the rock slide...

RE: Labor Day Weekend
I am going to hike part of the TRT, thats the Tahoe Rim Trail, for a couple of days. Mostly on the Nevada part. To avoid the crowds, go where the crowds won't go. Think steep trails, cold nights, and no toilets.
Which all sounds good to me.

Hey mountainchick, you might run into my brother. He just sent me an email saying he, his girlfriend and his son will be doing Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Bross during the labor day weekend. They did Longs Peak this last weekend, and he is all pumped to snag a couple more peaks.

Me, the missus, and the dynamic dober duo will be backpacking into the Ellicott Wilderness Area along the upper Chattooga River (of Deliverence fame). If I come back a little bow-legged, you'll know what happened! ;-)

MOM that's got to be a lot of work. You will love yourself for it later I suppose.

I guess I am going hiking over labor day after all. My canyon again. Should help these summer muscles get ready to go hiking with Mel next month. I need to do something about an airplane to Reno too.
