“An explanation of my earlier comment: "uMmmmm... yeah. Right." I can't imagine that I will ever get to the point that I will worry about 0.1 ounces issues with my pack. My strategy is pretty much like newcanuckkid and pepperDog.. I figure out what do I HAVE to have for the trip.. test out the weight.. if it feels too heavy.. I start re-thinking what I HAVE to have.

“I can vouch for the per item weighing method. It will save you weight. I use a five pound mechanical postal scale. It is good down to half an ounce.

That is a pretty good price for a digital scale.”

I don't care about tenths of ounces, but, for example...I have a pad I would consider replacing. I know what the new pad weighs because it is in the catalog. I have no idea what the old one weighs. I'd want to know the delta to help me make the decision.

And I have a very hard time getting to the Post Office during office hours.
