Any info on North CA & South OR beaches
I've got a rockhound friend heading out west for 6 weeks of hiking. She's heard of a beach in southern Oregon made up mostly of agate pebbles, and one in northern California that's jade (not green) pebbles. She doesn't know their names and we can't find anything on the web. Any of you left-coasters know what she's talking about?

Six weeks! Man, I am major jealous. One of my favorite memories is of the time my family camped on an Oregon beach. There were great big boulders that went out into the water, and we sat on them while watching the sun go down over the rock strewn ocean. I wanted to stay forever. I don't even know exactly where we were on the coast...would be fun to try to find that place again.

We were into rockhounding too, so maybe my parents know about the agate pebble beaches.

Hey Lyndy - Haven't heard from you for a while. Did you actually get away, after all?

Got your emails. We've got about the same hunting season up here, except it's always open season on snowmobilers and ATVers.

I told MSilver I'd prolly be down on Thursday night for the first hike, ready to start anytime on Friday. We can park my car anywhere to use as a shuttle.

Don't know about the second one. Depends how far along I am in battening down the hatches for winter and getting the wood supply in the shed.

Yeah, if your folks know what beach this might be, I'd love it if you passed the info along. Catch you on email later; see you in 5 weeks.

No, I got bronchitis instead. The whole family caught colds last Saturday. This weekend we did a lot of home and yard repair work, because it was supposed to rain. I should know never to trust a forecast.

Here's a straw for you to grasp at, look for Agate State Beach in s. Oregon. I seem to remember a place named Agate Beach. Hope it helps.

Thanks T-N - She knew about that one, but it's further up the coast than she thinks the one she's looking for is. May be it, though. We'll check it out and keep looking.

There is an agate beach between Coos Bay and Bandon. I have not been there for years (I'm a whole 1/2 hour from it). I remember stories of people coming out of there with buckets of agates years ago. I never found buckets of agates though! I can get some information and directions if she is interested. Also, if she would give me a time frame of when she is here, I could send her a tide table which would make her time spent on the beaches more enjoyable. Oregon has beautiful beaches. It will be a real treat for her! What other information would she like on the area? There are some great loop hikes that take in dunes and beaches just north of Coos Bay. Also, some day hikes to falls, biking trails, day hikes on the beaches/cliffs/woods/dunes/etc...

Thanks LH - I'll pass the info on. Is it okay if I give her your email address so you can deal directly?

Check out " Patricks Point State Park" In Northen Ca. They have a beach called agate beach. The locals here in Eureka have jars full of them.
