Kids are cool!

“Let's get sappy, shall we? A friend just E-mailed this to me and I thought it was pretty awesome. Hope you all enjoy it too:

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My kids see
flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and
they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words.
If they don't know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I
feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it,
until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give
me that. My kids say, "Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my
friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry,
I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes
and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to build,
rivers to cross and worms to play with. I wonder if we are
given kids to teach or to learn from?

Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the
big things.

I wish you BIG MUD PUDDLES and SUNNY YELLOW DANDELIONS!”

“My 16 yr old looked at our house and said he thought it should be comdemmed, because the lawn needs cutting, and the garden is weedy, and some siding is missing where I demolished an attached garage. Never mind that I'm working 60+ hrs a week to save for his college, then I come home and do all the pool maintenance so thay can swim all day, then I cook dinner for them, then either fight with them to get the dishes done, or if I don't feel like fighting I do them myself, then I do whatever chores are most urgent before falling asleep at 10 for a scanty 6 hours sleep. He just thinks I'm lazy.

I've never wanted to hurt anyone in my life with the exception of my 2 teenages boys who at one time or another have found the right button to push. Makes me cry in anguish.”

“We have been blessed with four neat kids. Our youngest daugher, Debi, certainly has given us a whole new perspective on life. Having kids can be a great "overall" experience...especially if you are willing to invest the time.

BTW. Debi and I will be going to Disneyland this afternoon. She loves the fast rides the most.”

“I forgot to mention that every house with teenagers has a bottle of stupid pills hidden somewhere inside. You can search for it all you want, but you will never find it. It moves from bedroom to bedroom. When they get their driver's license then the stupid pills even find their way into the car. Your teenager can seem very normal one minute, and then...wham...they take a stupid pill.

The only antidote to stupid pills appears to be time and suffering. Some kids only learn the hard way (e.g., break the rules = no car; bad grades = no car. Two of my kids didn't drive until they were 17 because their grades
dropped).

But, the good still outweighs. Our three adult kids are fun to be with.”

“My youngest is six. I don't want that kid to grow up. Dad is his best buddy (makes it tough to discipline). He's the only one out of the three that goes to Dad for questions, problems, etc. The other two go too MOM.
He loves everything I do, backpacking, fishing, gardening, gold panning, etc.
He's also one of the best Black Jack players around.

As Spam's post implies, the rosy picture kids embrace may have many attractive points we should keep in mind, while we also remember that it lacks judgement, and not all judgements are bad. (Especially about stinky winos smiling with a hand out on the sidewalk.)

I think most of us like to hike and camp because it does let us expose some of the kid we have inside of us, while still applying some of the wisdom we hopefully have gained about our place in the world.”

Just for the record, yes, I am new here. No, I do not intend to divulge personal info about the trials and tribulations of being a single mom. No, I am not looking for someone to take care of me (PLLLLLLEEEEEAAASSSSSSEEEEE!) What I am looking for some interaction with some like-minded individuals who like to grab life by the kahunas and have fun. So lets all jump in the mud and do just that. By the way, if you ask me where all of this came from, I don't freakin know. I think you are a unique bunch and I hope to get to know you guys. I just wanted you to know, the way to get to know me is not by stereotyping. I am pretty sure that you were not categorizing me (Spanky) but newgirl made women like me look bad.
