What have you done this Summer?
Other than jabbering on TT, have you guys "walked your talk" this summer? Well, July and August are not the most appealing months for backpacking in my opinion. But I happen to have off those months every year, and here's what Ive done from a NYC base:

A. Central WA hiking trip, 14 days (longer time expected, but trip truncated by fires)

B. Completion of Northville-Placid Trail just coupla days ago, 120 mi. 'crost the Adirondacks

C. Coupla weekend-length (but midweek selected for solitude) trips over my favorite trails in the Catskills.

Ain't burnt out yet. Miss the trail like hell already and DREAD returning to work in 11 days and 14 hours, but what canya' do?

RE: What have you done this Summer?
Roger that sounds like a great summer but like alot of the folks in here the summers just kill me. I am a cold weather kinda guy and my outdoor activities so far for the summer have been fishing, working on my house, fishing, working on my yard, fishing,an occasional dayhike and fishing.

RE: What have you done this Summer?
Spent a couple of weeks in Glacier with a NYC guy who needed to accomplish some goals. Most NYC folks seem to be cut from the same cloth. How many goals did you set for yourself this summer Roger? And did you accomplish them all?

RE: What have you done this Summer?
Arkie, I personally don't "establish goals," other than the daily quest for happiness, which for myslelf happens often to be thecompletionof say a 17-mi. day on the trail with daylight to spare. Sure, setting goals is part of planning, and that's really part of DREAMING. Once I get out there in the field, the logistics and itinerary often change. No regrets.

RE: What have you done this Summer?
I had a great summer. I started the process of shaking off the dayhiker name. I took two, three day and one, two day backpacking trips. The two day trip was my first trip, ever. The trips were the Sipsey Wilderness, Alabama, Springer to Wal-Yi-Si(sp?) on the AT, and a Smokies trip. I also spent a week in a cabin with wife and son in Boone, NC. I spent about 4 days in a condo in Destin, Fl. Normally I would be getting out this Fall, but we're having our second child around Thanksgiving. That event will be wonderful, but if I go off exploring too much I'll be doing some couch time.

I just started hiking a little over a year ago and my first backpacking trip was this past spring. I hope to do some winter backpacking and expand into some longer backpacking trips. I really like it up high. I'm going to head up to White Mtn in September and I would like to do Langley before winter sets in. Next summer, I hope to be able to do some backpacking in Colorado.

This is all so exciting and new to me.
