Bullet-Proof Pack

“Gear reviewers are always talking about "bomb-proof" construction, and TTers have a history of debating trail fears from grizzlies, cougars, and unleashed dogs to two-legged psychos with guns and knives, not to mention other BPers with guns and knives on the trails.

“I would hope that schools start getting smart about this and try to eliminate backpacks in school. There would be more cost for the districts, but I think that you can't put a price safety. Or, at the very least, make the clear packs manditory. Packs in the classroom are a hazard.”

“To prevent weapons from entering schools, all windows will have to be barred and screened. Metal detectors installed at every doorway. Packs are not a hazard...a person can put a gun in their book (by cutting an outline of the gun in the pages). There must be dozens of ways to get a weapon into schools. Clear/mesh packs reduces the problem a bit.”

“packs are a hazard as it pertains to blocking the rows between desks creating a trip hazard, used to hit some one with, the weight of them on young backs (some are at least 50 lbs on a 110 lb body) amoung many other things. I agree, you cannot keep all of the weapons out, but there are things that can be done to improve. Sorry to take a serious stand on this, but this is just one of my pet peeves at work.

stanlee: maybe textbooks should be rated for stopping power so the kids could pick the appropriate volume from their lockers -- "Let's see, I gotta go to geometry now and that takes me down the hall that is Latin Kings turf, and they just moved up from 9mm to .40SW, so I better supplement my Safe-T-Gear pack with that 2" thick literature book with the reinforced cover, and trade off my ring binder for the legal pad on the steel clipboard."”

“Hey - I'm not kidding. The problem is that sometimes the way the school schedule is set for these kids, they don't have enough time between classes to go to there locker, so they carry all of there books with them. Crazy, yep. You'll start seeing kids with back problems soon.”
