Bullet-Proof Pack “Gear reviewers are always talking about "bomb-proof" construction, and TTers have a history of debating trail fears from grizzlies, cougars, and unleashed dogs to two-legged psychos with guns and knives, not to mention other BPers with guns and knives on the trails. So I thought I'd bring your attention to the Safe-T-Gear backpack: Along with four compartments, including organizer panel, there is a back panel of Level IIA Kevlar body armor. Only $199.95 ($5.95 S&H) from www.safe-t-gear.com , where the company is promoting it to parents as a response to the dangers of school shootings. Maybe this is what a 5-year-old is supposed to carry these days.” 8:46:14 PM 8/23/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Kevlar? Why not Gore-Tex? No need for a rain cover then.” 8:52:04 PM 8/23/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “If it has Kevlar® in it, everyone should purchase 2 minimum.” 8:57:40 PM 8/23/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Bulletproof backpacks?, have the Cryps taken over the trails now too?!?!?” 12:47:38 AM 8/24/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “U R right Baume66, one to carry on your back, and the other to carry in front of your chest.” 3:50:57 AM 8/24/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Does it come with a convienent pouch for your water bottle and a mac-10?” 11:51:12 AM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “In school it's more preferable to have your handguns in your waistband...it's more accessible. lol The pouches are to hold your spare clips.” 12:02:17 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “I would hope that schools start getting smart about this and try to eliminate backpacks in school. There would be more cost for the districts, but I think that you can't put a price safety. Or, at the very least, make the clear packs manditory. Packs in the classroom are a hazard.” 12:08:25 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “To prevent weapons from entering schools, all windows will have to be barred and screened. Metal detectors installed at every doorway. Packs are not a hazard...a person can put a gun in their book (by cutting an outline of the gun in the pages). There must be dozens of ways to get a weapon into schools. Clear/mesh packs reduces the problem a bit.” 12:29:11 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “packs are a hazard as it pertains to blocking the rows between desks creating a trip hazard, used to hit some one with, the weight of them on young backs (some are at least 50 lbs on a 110 lb body) amoung many other things. I agree, you cannot keep all of the weapons out, but there are things that can be done to improve. Sorry to take a serious stand on this, but this is just one of my pet peeves at work. VVVEEEEEENNNNNNNTTTTTIINNNNGG. Ah, feel all better now----------” 12:40:18 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Kevlar vs. Gore-Tex:: I guess it don't matter if you get wet... if'n you're dead. (happiness is a warm gun?) Just wonderin'... What gang do they think you're in if you have one of those PUMPKIN packs Dana makes?” 1:11:24 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “As a reviewer in Combat Handguns noted about the Safe-T-Gear pack, the Kevlar panel is great, but "the more stuff you put in the bag, the better a bullet trap it becomes." So don't complain about your kid's teacher giving all those books to bring home -- it's for the kid's own safety.” 3:05:30 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Lemme see a blue or red bandanna means you are either a Crip or a Blood so I guess a Pumpkin colored pack makes you a Limp.” 3:23:00 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “I've got a Crip pack and Blood gaiters.” 4:36:45 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Tilt be representin on da trail. Tru-dat.” 6:11:17 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Do you tote a 40oz hydration cell too?” 6:12:53 PM 8/25/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Some of those kids carry 50+ lbs packs??? What are they carrying...gold bars? They should try to stop by their lockers, and change books for different classes once in awhile. My backpack for a 3 day outing (water included) is just over 50 lbs. And I weight 175 lbs. not 110.” 2:14:52 AM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “This is maybe not as bad an idea as it seems, especially as hunting season approaches. I once had a goose shot from right over my head. On the opening day of deer season, there are one million people with guns in Michigan's woods, just waiting to shoot.” 11:29:10 AM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Maybe that Pumpkin Pack isn't such a bad idea after all... with a couple of strobes, *G*.” 12:26:47 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “reformed, so true. I had a salvo of three shots pass through the branches above me once on deer opening morning. I left that stand quickly and hunkered down in a nearby cedar swamp. And that was the U.P., which has fewer hunters than the L.P. stanlee: maybe textbooks should be rated for stopping power so the kids could pick the appropriate volume from their lockers -- "Let's see, I gotta go to geometry now and that takes me down the hall that is Latin Kings turf, and they just moved up from 9mm to .40SW, so I better supplement my Safe-T-Gear pack with that 2" thick literature book with the reinforced cover, and trade off my ring binder for the legal pad on the steel clipboard."” 1:14:28 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “pekka...LMBO!!” 1:20:51 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Hey - I'm not kidding. The problem is that sometimes the way the school schedule is set for these kids, they don't have enough time between classes to go to there locker, so they carry all of there books with them. Crazy, yep. You'll start seeing kids with back problems soon.” 1:32:41 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Kids with back problems soon? More like right now. I've got kids in my scout troop that use their backpacks for book bags because of the weight they have to carry.” 3:34:27 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Pekka, hopefully their maths and physics improve. But then again, maybe they'll be using a calculator to figure it out.” 5:45:04 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “The New Math: If a 115gr. 9mm JHP is traveling at 1,250 fps muzzle velocity....” 9:27:01 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “buy Kevlar®” 9:30:26 PM 8/26/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “baume 66, that's what's in the back panel of the Safe-T-Gear pack.” 9:58:35 AM 8/27/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “i know, that's why everyone should purchase at least two!” 10:02:57 AM 8/27/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “How about three: Back, chest, privates, LOL.” 10:06:01 AM 8/27/01 RE: Bullet-Proof Pack “Fight trial crime, shoot back.” 10:12:57 AM 8/27/01
