Under the knife
Well, Monday morning I'll be cut on for a herniated disk L4-5. I injured it last December lifting a canoe. I'll be around the house for a couple of weeks, so maybe I'll get to post more, then gradually working my way back into work. Hopefully recovery time is 4 to 6 weeks. This is one of those trim jobs instead of a removal. They will just remove the part of the disk that is protruding. Just a minor adjustment on my way to old age.

Anyway, keep me in your prayers, or send some good vibes this way. I'm going to the woods today.

RE: Under the knife
Father,

I ask you to bless my friend BS reading this right now. I am asking you to minister to his spirit at this very moment.
Where there is pain, give him Your peace and mercy.
Where there is self-doubting, release a renewed confidence in Your ability to work through him.
Where there is tiredness or exhaustion, I ask You to give him understanding, patience and strength.
Where there is spiritual stagnation, I ask You to renew him by revealing Your nearness, and by drawing them into greater intimacy with You.
Where there is fear, reveal your love and release them Your courage.
Where there is a sin blocking him, reveal it, and break its hold over my friend?s life.
Bless his finances, give him greater vision and raise up leaders and friends to support and encourage him.
Give him discernment to recognize the evil forces around him and reveal to him the power he has in You to defeat it.

I ask You to do these things in Jesus? name, Amen!

BS- You've had the surgery by now and hopefully, you're resting and recovering. Take the time you need to heal and don't push the physical therapy. More isn't better with either reps or resistance as far as physical therapy goes. There's a pretty good article on surgery and recovery in this month's Outside magazine.

Okay, after seeing those pictures, I'm NOT going to ask Rad what surgery he really had. But have a good recovery and we'll all pray that you have little pain and that Jen has lots of patience.

BS, I hope that you are doing well and that the surgery was better than successful. My Mom had similar surgery and she is really as good as new now. Think happy thoughts, it is good for your healing.

RE: Under the knife
Thanks to all for your support. I had the disk trimming operation on Monday morning at 7:30am. I was in a hospital room by 10:30 and home by 7:30 pm on Monday. It was amazing. The ruptured disk was pressing on the S1 nerve and as soon as the protruding material was remove, immediate relief came. The surgury was done by a one inch incision with a probe and microscopic tools used to locate and do the work. I had immediate relief. The incision now is sore and has to heal and since my disk has been trimmed on and opened up I have to be carefull not to do anything that might cause it to move out of place. For two weeks I can only lay down or stand up. Absolutely no sitting. After that I will be able to sit for about 30 min. at a time for a couple more weeks. I've been walking 30 min a day twice a day since Tuesday and going crazy the rest of the time. I'm just now getting comfortable lying around as there were few positions where I could rest well the first couple of nights.
All in all, it went very well. I just have to keep from doing anything stupid for the next six weeks.
I appreciate your
support and prayers.
Hopefully I'll be backpacking again by the first of November.

Ski,
that article in Outside was an inspiration and encouragement for me to get on with the process. If it is broke fix it and get on with life.
