Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Which is better, a Dromedary or Camelbak? I'm considering either: 1) a Camelbak Unbottle, or 2) a Dromedary with the dark blue Cordura nylon that looks almost like denim, OR the Hydromedary hydration pack. Comments?” 12:47:43 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Drom bag, lot mor useful and you can get a hose system to fit it!” 12:50:52 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Steve Hiker, I have a Camelbak and a Plytapus Hoser 2. I like them both very well. If you get a Camelbak, read the instructions for the bite valve. Mine did not seem to have a slit in the valve so I cut one with my knife. Then I read the instructions. The slit will not appear until you roll it around between your fingers for a while. The instructions say "Do not cut". Mine now leaks. duh” 2:04:16 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I just got the MSR Dromlite. I haven't used it yet, but it is way more durable than my platty. The platty I have came with an isulated cover which is da bomb in the hot summer. That warm water in the hose is yucky, but that cool drink is too good.” 6:32:18 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I've heard the dromedarys can cause the water to taste funky. No personal experience, tho. I use Platypus. It blows up. I send it in. They send one back.” 8:32:54 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I have a 70oz Camelback bladder that fits in a Camelback daypack. I want to use this for my ArcTeryxz (sp?)backpack. My pack does not have a holder for the bladder. Trying to use what I have and not having to buy another. Any suggestions on how to put in the pack other than just lay it on the top of the gear inside (which is what I do now)?” 9:07:48 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Does your pack have straps on the lid? Wrap it inside your sleeping mat and tie it to the top of your pack. Experimenting with velcro may work. Maybe not.” 9:20:04 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I have three platypus containers (1.6L, 1.6L, and 2.0L) and two platypus hoses. The new hose has a far superior bite valve than the first one. I treat them nice and they haven't failed yet. One of them has a carrier with straps. I can strap it to the top of my pack. Next time I go on a long hike with 3-4L of water, I am going to hook up both hoses...one to the top and one inside my pack. One will have gatorade and one will have water. I can hike all day without messing around with filling, etc. they also stay fairly cold that way. I have a special adaptor for my PUR hiker that hooks it directly to my platypus. That saved me about 3-4 ounces of weight from my previous hookup.” 9:42:15 PM 8/24/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I have a Camelback MULE and a Dromalite 4L with hose kit that I can put in my day pack's reservoir pouch, or the top pocket of my big pack. The bite valve on the Camelback is much better than the bite valve on the MSR hose. The latter is really stiff and hard, which is unpleasant on the trail. But I haven't had any funny taste from the Dromalite bag, and the standard spigot cap is good when used for camp/cooking purposes. The fabric seems pretty sturdy.” 11:00:40 AM 8/25/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “I've got a 70oz platypus that seems to be better than the bottles and the container itself seems to be lightest weight. It didn't come with a hose clip though. Anyone know where to get one of those, or have a MacGyver trick handy?” 3:52:26 AM 8/26/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Camelbak” 9:04:08 PM 8/26/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Dromedary, the seams split open on 2 of my Camelbak bladders with about nine months of use. Down on the bottom where the material flexes when filled with water. Dromedary is still going strong for a year now.” 11:42:01 PM 8/26/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Tekapo - I saw someone MacGyver a hose clip using a wide rubber band and an aligator clip. Check Campmor for accessories if you haven't already. I bought a Platypus adaptor for my PUR hiker from them.” 12:47:55 AM 8/27/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “Think you could rig a Camelbak bite valve or hose assembly to a Dromedary? If the Dromedary bite valve is really unpleasant.” 1:11:59 AM 8/27/01 RE: Dromedary vs. Camelbak “steve hiker: I have thought about it, but stupidly have not taken the time to compare the hose ends on my two units. The new right-angle Camelbak bite valves appear worth checking out, too.” 9:56:49 AM 8/27/01
