Howdy, chili! It's our week isn't it? I have no problem wishing your team well after their disappointing season last year.

During my stay at Roan Mt., I drove to Elizabethtown and stopped at the local Wal-Mart. They had freakin’ VOL stuff all over the store. I told the cashier, “Gee, they sure have a lot of VOL stuff all over the store.” She looked at me with a steely glare. I said, “And that’s a good thing.” She quietly said, “Well, if you like that sort of thing.” I got the feeling she did, and left it at that.

I sure would like to be there but longlosthiker had me thinking twice about with whom I go there. He sent me an email implying that Tennessee fans might be inclined to get physically violent with me.

What a shame. I haven't ever encountered a Tennessee fan who was that bad. A good friend said that he'd never go to Alabama again because the fans were so obnoxious. I've never encountered an Alabama fan who was that bad. Longlost also told me he had a bad experience with Florida fans one year. I've never seen any behavior in our stadium that would lead me to believe that type of behavior would occur on a regular basis. I would feel comfortable bringing any opposing fan to our games.

It's just too bad that there are a few fans out there that seem unable to control their behavior. It creates a bad impression for the majority. It may also be that some folks are a bit overly sensitive to verbal taunting. It’s a shame that some folks seem to get their egos all wrapped up in what is supposed to be entertainment (hence the obnoxiuos sports fan persona).


Personally, I love the Florida/Tennessee rivalry. It's only been a rivalry for about 15 years. It’s nothing like the Florida/Jawja rivalry, but it’s been a great game from the start. I respect Tennessee for having great fan support. I respect Tennessee for having great facilities. I respect Tennessee for being able to recruit so well year after year. And you've got to respect Phil Fulmer's record in the SEC. He had a better SEC winning percentage than Steve Spurrier when Spurrier was at Florida. THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!

Games this year against Tennessee, Alabama, LSU (homecoming), Auburn, Jawja, South Carolina, and FSU make for a great season.

When Florida won its national championship in ’96, it was only the third team to accomplish that feat while having the toughest schedule in the nation. Considering that Florida used to play Miami as the first game every year (before the SEC expanded), it’s a miracle that they’ve ever won a NC.


Tough games and rivalries are what college football is all about. Considering that Florida probably has the toughest schedule in the nation again this year, if the GATORS do well we can look back at quite an impressive accomplishment… unlike some other highly ranked teams who shall go unnamed.
