CONGRATULATIONS TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!
"Better your enemies talk evil of you than not at all." Whoever said that must have been a GENIUS! An EVIL GENIUS I say!

CONGATULATIONS VOLS! What a great win for Tennessee. The VOLS hadn't won in Gainesville since 1971. The GATORS should have been up for this game, the crowd was into the game, nobody picked the VOLS to win. They come down to a hostile environment, ALL FIRED UP, and outplayed the GATORS on both sides of the ball. They stopped the run and put pressure on the quarterback. Then they run the ball like Colorado did against Nebraska. How can anyone run on the GATORS like that again, and again, and again? Travis Stevens was an animal! 226 yards against a very stingy Florida defense. Them Vols came to play!

Quotes from Steve Spurrier: "They just kicked our tails. Tennessee deserved to win the game. They ran it down our throats pretty good." "It hurts. We knew what was on the line. I don't know what else you can say. They kicked our tails. I hope I can watch the tape and say they were lucky, but I know I can't say that at all. No excuses. I'm proud of a lot of our guys. A lot of our guys played their hearts out, but as a team we didn't play well enough to beat a real good team." Yeah, sounds like a punk to me.

I was watching the game at a little tiki bar down at Crystal River. I couldn't hear the announcers because the band was playing too loudly in the background. There I was, sitting right over the water, outside in my shorts and T-shirt, watching my GATORS get demolished by a much better Tennessee squad. Watching my GATORS get exposed as a talented team without the heart to win a big game. Oh well, at least it was a nice night to watch the game. I'll bet it was nice and toasty warm at your place too, chili. CONGRATULATIONS VOLS!

Two good things I see from that game: 1. Florida now has a chance to win their bowl game. 2. The BCS is in shambles, WOOOHOOO! Who goes to the "championship" game? Colorado has a claim, Oregon has a claim, Illinois has a claim, Tennessee (may) have a claim, and Nebraska has a claim. I hope there's lots of grumbling out there when the match-ups are chosen. Playoff...playoff...playoff!

Check out the AP poll, look at number 25. Yeah baby - my rockets are back, bring on Miami, errrrrr SW South Dakota State Tech A&M Community College (or whoever we play in motor city bowl)

BTW - I don't particularly like Spurrier, or the Gators, but I couldn't help but feel bad for ole walkin'dude, sitting there by the fire looking pretty glum in his gator jersey on Saturday night. He took it pretty well though. For his sake, I hope they win thier bowl game.

All I gotta say is the Vols better get up for their next game better than Nebraska, Florida and Texas got up for their last games. One more chance to choke!

That Texas/CU game was glorious because Major Applewhite got a chance to show he should have been starting for the last 2 years and Texas lost anyway! That sleazebag Mack Brown needs to be given the boot. All he can do is cut shady deals in February, beat no-name teams Sept-November and piss away any chance at a championship. Out with him!

Arc - condolences

arc, it was indeed a great game. Probably one of the biggest wins in the history of Volunteer Football. Your analysis is right on point, Tennessee won the game in the area 3 yards behind the Florida line of scrimmage and in the area 10 to 15 yards beyond their own line of scrimmage. It was apparant that Florida did not have a lot of experience with a running back charging down full bore on the safety. I think it would be safe to say that Tennessee played their "A" game and for the first time this year played up to their potential. I agree with the playoff idea. Tennessee can claim a shot at Miami (if we don't de-rail against LSU) but arguably, both Oregon and Nebraska can make the same claim. Who deserves the chance??? Obviously I hope Tennessee gets it, but I could not in all honesty say that they are "robbed" if either Oregon or Nebraska wind up playing for the same. An eight team playoff would result in some serious football, however.

Those Nasty Bowls...Yeck-Phoooey
Our paper has one possible scenario working out this way (assuming Tennessee wins the SEC).

Rose: Miami-Tennessee
Sugar: Nebraska-Illinois
Orange: Florida-Maryland
Fiesta: Oregon-Colorado

I think Florida would be very lucky to play in a major bowl this year. The paper also predicts that if Tennessee were to lose the SEC, Florida would likely play Ohio State in Tampa. Boy would I like to see that match-up.

How about a friendly wager on the Sun Bowl. The Boilermakers vs the Fightin' Cougars of Wsahington State. Perhaps a Dutch Oven meal or two as the wager.

arc, under the scenario you listed, the Fiesta should be a great game. I believe Florida would destroy Ohio State and would really like to see Florida play either Oregon or Colorado.

Dud Bowls
Under this system, the Fiesta may be the only good bowl, chili, unless Tennessee can raise their game up one more notch. Could be possible. Tennessee did a great job handling FSU for the title.

I really like LSU too but I've got to root for the Vols in the SEC game. A good, clean, classy team that finally got a break this year after outplaying Florida last year too.

If I were chosing the bowls, I might have to pick Colorado to play Miami. Colorado is on a roll.

Anywho, after much consideration, I would root for Tennessee in the title game if they go. It's a choice between the best football State bringing home the BCS trophy, or the best football league. It would be a no lose situation either way. GO VOLS!

One of the columnists in the Seattle Times made his Heisman choice today....Joey Harrington of Oregon. If that isn't a 'homer' choice I don't know what is. Check the stats, my vote is for Grossman. Just think what he'll do as a junior and senior.

LOL. I'm glad, chili. I was chuckling for a while after I made that post. An evil chuckle, of course. Do you really believe that the girls in Florida are all ugly? Yeah, about as ugly as the girls in California.

Grossman is really something, kleetn. All we need now is an offensive line that can consistently run block and pass protect. They should be better next year too. Grossman's going to have some amazing stats before he's through.

The interesting thing is that our back-up (Brock Berlin) was the consensus #1 college recruit quarterback when he came here a year later. Spurrier redshirted Grossman but failed to do so with Berlin. He has since admitted that it wasn't the smartest decision he's ever made. There's still time to redshirt Berlin (a sophomore). It would be a good choice because he's intelligent and has a better arm than Grossman. We have one of the best H.S. quarterbacks coming in next year too.

Good luck with Texas in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28, kleetn.

Yeah, Arc, I heard about his connection to Fla. through Stoops. I don't think Mangino was at Fla though, or was he?
Toejam, that was Bennett that went to SMU. He was a K-State asst that we were looking at, but he is also a loyal Texan, (too bad for him), and wanted to get back home. I'd rather coach KU than SMU any day.
Do you remember the football player that got stuck in the drive-through window at Taco Bell? And who says our program doesn't get national attention! The KU Alumni are just asking Mangino to keep the players out of the Taco Bell windows and away from unattended purses.

GMAC Bowl- Marshall/East Carolina(1)

Tangerine Bowl- N.C. St./Pitt.

Las Vegas Bowl- Southern Cal.(3)/Utah

Seattle Bowl- Ga. Tech/Stanford(3)

Independence (sanctions) Bowl- Iowa St./Alabama

Galleryfurniture.com Bowl- Texas AM/TCU

Music City Bowl- Boston Coll./Jawja

Holiday (pizza) Bowl- Texas(13)/Washington

Motor City Bowl- Toledo(4)/Cincinnati

Alamo Bowl- Texas Tech(1.5)/Iowa

IT'S IN THE BAG
No problem, Dun. And I expect you to get down on your knees when you make that post to my thread! You land of OZ provincial.

Here are the spreads for the teams in the bowls that weren't listed yesterday. I'll just list the favorites:

Pitt (1)
Alabama (7)
Texas AM (7)
Jawja (5)
Wash. St. (9)
Clemson (7)
Fresno St. (6)
Louisville (2)
N. Carolina (2)
S. Carolina (2)
Oklahoma (13)
Va. Tech (2)
Tennessee (3.5)
Colorado (3)
LSU (3)
Florida (16)
Miami (10)

You better hope we bet spreads, Dunadan. That's the only way you'll collect on the Cornholers game.

Quote from Spurrier: "College football is not the most fair thing without a playoff system. Nebraska is in the final game and they only beat two ranked teams the entire season. Somehow or another, they're in the final game. I don't know how all that math plays out."

Ain't it the truth. The teams that play in the weak leagues like Nebraska and FSU will always have an advantage in the Poll System.
