'32oz” 1:02:31 PM 1/09/09 “Note that the excuse against USC every year is the one now used for the Big12...no D. gojo - thanks. Something I read sums it up really well. Bama wanted to play in the NC game. Utah wanted to play in the Sugar Bowl. I do think the Andre Smith thing along with our opponent messed with our motivation. We're simply not a good enough team to beat people when not playing our best or when we have significant injuries. We're recruiting our way out of that situation, but still have a long way to go.” 1:14:15 PM 1/09/09 “Our TB just announced he's going pro. We lose our top 3 linemen, both TE's, RB, and QB off of offense. Ouch.” 1:28:33 PM 1/09/09 “I agree with 32oz on the alibi. If a top five college team can't get up for a bowl game, they lack grit and are poorly coached and poorly motivated. On the other hand, I don't think this USC vs Big stuff is all that justified. Again - just look at USC's schedule. It wasn't long ago there was a top ranked USC team that got to play the BCS championship game in what was practically a home game. It wasn't the big 12 that looked to be over-rated.” 1:42:48 PM 1/09/09 “Geez gojo, I was sorry to see Georgia go down like they did this year. I mean that. I've got over my hatred of Jawja over the years. Annual butt-whippings have done an amazing job of brightening my mood. But I like those competitive games between Florida/Tennessee and Florida/Jawja. A buddy of mine says he has a business associate who flies down from NY to go to the Florida/Georgia game every year. He's not affiliated with either school. He just thinks the long-time Florida/Georgia rivalry, played at a neutral site, is one of the greatest college football traditions. Georgia loses a lot next year. I predict we make up more ground next year on that lopsided all-time record. Stovie, Mississippi played well all year and looks to be headed in the right direction. Mississippi ended the Texas controversy, although I saw on ESPN that the fans in the state of Texas voted Texas #1. That won't fly. Texas beat OU by ten. Florida beat OU by ten. Texas was barely beaten by Texas Tech. Florida was barely beaten by Mississippi. Mississippi handily beat Texas Tech. Most of those we beat the team that beat the team scenarios don't work. That one works well enough that it should have silenced Texas in the system we have now. Utah got screwed and USC got screwed (once again). Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Utah, Penn. St., Alabama, Ohio St., Texas Tech, Georgia, TCU, Oregon, Boise St, Mississippi, Virginia Tech, and Missouri would have made one fine playoff. I said before (and I strongly believe it) that teams have more incentive not to get upset in a playoff. I spent this season picking 70% against the spread. A major factor in my success was to accurately gauge the mentality of the teams: who was up, who was down, who had more incentive to win. It was about impossible for me to figure that for the bowls and each year the bowls are much more difficult to predict than the regular season. Alabama getting beat by Utah is a whole lot worse than a freshman laden Florida team getting beat by a senior laden Michigan squad playing their last game for a beloved outgoing coach. Even though Florida was favored, I can say that Florida got beat by the better, senior led, team that had more incentive. I still believe that Bama got upset because Utah had something to prove and Bama was just going through the motions. Bama was upset, not exposed. I don't go for that "exposed" stuff for most bowl games. The bowls, with their long layoffs, are a whole different animal from the rhythm of the season. Division II does it. Do their students spend any less time in the classroom? Every other sport on the planet has a playoff. If you start the playoffs after the conference championship games, each of the 11 conferences could send a representative and there would be 5 at-large teams picked by rankings. That's a fair way to involve all Division I schools and spread the TV revenue evenly. We can leave Notre Lame out because they've been artificially propped up by NBC for too long and they suck anyway. But conferences like the Pac-10 and Big-10 haven't instituted a conference championship game. Neither of those conferences, with their "traditional" Rose Bowl tie-in, can complain when they get cheated by the current system. They've helped to maintain the current system. Their conference representatives have voted down proposals for a playoff. Finger pointing by Pac-10 and Big-10 teams just emphasizes their stupidity. Both schools are in the SEC but MSU did crap in 'feetball' this year. ;-)” 5:10:35 PM 1/09/09 “I'm pretty sure if Tebow had been in the booth a couple of those announcers would have offered to felate him. Sounds like a few of you guys might be inclined to have a go at it too.” 5:35:54 PM 1/09/09 “'But conferences like the Pac-10 and Big-10 haven't instituted a conference championship game. Some USC players were hoping Oregon State would BEAT Oregon because they didn't want to go to the Rose Bowl... Had Oregon State won it would have been a financial windfall to the PAC10 because they would have had 2 teams in the BCS bowls... I'm sure a Texas-USC game would have been more telling then a Texas OSU game as far as national champioships.. Had Texas upset USC AND Oklahoma beaten UF (Like either of those would have happened.. could you have seen the outcry).. IN any case a 'weak' Pac 10 made a great showing in the bowls. I will agree with you aout one thing on the PAC10 rosebowl tie in... It does get boring watching USC trounce an overmatched bBig 10 team year after year.. '32oz” 5:53:03 PM 1/09/09 “Nope, I’m too busy basking in the glory of our Mythical National Championship to bloviate or pontificate. Gentlemen, I give you the Bill O'Reilly of NCAA football... Haha!” 6:05:01 PM 1/09/09 “There’s nothing like listening to the angry, cynical people of the northeast parrot the angry, cynical sentiments of their angry, cynical sports writers. Envious sheep have such an interesting perspective. 32oz, actually I’m not wrong about the Big-10 and Pac-10 not instituting a conference playoff. Or are you privy to secret information that has remained hidden to the rest of the college football world? My OPINION is that it’s stupid for people to help maintain a system that they then criticize as being unfair to their team. Do you take issue with my opinion? The Rose Bowl has been a bore for a long time (and I’m only partially laughing) for the very reasons you mention. I’ve been stating my opinion on THAT for years. Nigal, you are a poor pathetic creature. You are to be pitied. You should curl up against the frigid weather in a nice warm fuzzy blanket and rethink the downward spiral of your life. That may be the only comfort you get for quite some time as your little team will probably remain pathetic for years to come. You can expect no comfort from playing in that pathetic organization you call a conference. 1-6 in the bowls, my pathetic little friend.” 8:13:32 AM 1/11/09 “ ![]() "Whats bowlses Precious?"” 8:16:54 AM 1/11/09 “I thought Nigal would come back with something more akin to Ron White talking about the time he won a debate.” 2:49:37 PM 1/11/09 “Nigal's got a very funny, self-effacing sense of humor. That's usually the sign of a good sport. I liked those Michigan fans in 2007. It's too bad Nigal wasn't there for probably the only bowl they're going to be in for the next decade. I may have been wrong to pronounce the Big-12 the best conference this year. I just wanted to avoid the perception that I'm a rabid, die-hard, totally unreasonable, totally unabashed, SEC supporter. I know the idea that I'm an athletic supporter comes as no surprise to some. As good as the Pac-10 did in the bowls, they had some very favorable match-ups. Only 5 teams were bowl eligible for Pac-10. The SEC had 8 teams in bowls the most of any conference except for the ACC (and we all know what happened to the ACC). The SEC played in two BCS bowls. The SEC had the second best record in bowls, a .750 win percentage, despite being the underdog in 5 of their 8 bowl games. The Pac-10 was favored in 4 of their 5 bowls. Oregon was a pick-em underdog. USC/Penn. St. ? Come on. The Big-10 is the laughing stock of the college football world. By how much was USC favored to win this game? Oregon St./Pittsburgh Oregon St. was favored Arizona/BYU Arizona was favored California/Miami California was favored by 8 and didn’t cover the spread. Oklahoma St./Oregon Oklahoma St. was favored by 3. That’s pick-em The SEC was favored in 3 of their 8 bowls. LSU/Ga. Tech. LSU was the underdog Iowa/S. Carolina South Carolina was the underdog Vanderbilt/BC Vanderbilt was the underdog Mississippi/Texas Tech. Mississippi was the underdog Kentucky/East Carolina Kentucky was the underdog Georgia/Michigan St. Georgia was favored by 7.5 and covered that spread. Alabama/Utah Alabama was a big favorite and just sucked. What do you expect, they’re Bama. Florida/Oklahoma Florida was favored by 6 and covered the spread. The Big-12 went 4-3 in the bowls despite being favored in 5 games. They were big favorites in 4 of those 5. Oklahoma and Nebraska were the only underdogs and Oklahoma couldn't cover the spread. Tebow entered the press room to wild applause. A reporter for a 24-hour cable sports network burst into tears when the 2007 Heisman winner entered the room. Another threw a pair of boxer shorts on the podium. Tebow smiled at the gesture and several sports reporters fainted."Sorry I'm late," Tebow began. "There was a six-year-old boy with cancer in row 54 and I had to make my way through the crowd to heal him." "I want to start by saying that playing quarterback for the University of Florida, winning two national championships, has been a great honor. There has been some speculation about my future and I want to clear that up right now," he continued. "Don't go, Tim!" a reporter shouted from the back of the room. "After much consideration, I have decided to skip my senior season at the University of Florida and ascend directly into Heaven," Tebow announced. Upon making the announcement, Tebow was bathed in a blinding white light and vanished. In response to the news, ESPN announced they will have a month-long tribute to Tebow. ESPN2 will now be known as ESPN-TEBOW and will feature Tebow highlights (including home videos of Tebow's childhood), re-airings of past interviews, Tebow-centric analysis by ESPN air personalities, a Tebow quiz show and a reality show to find the "most Tebow-like" person in America. "He wasn't just the greatest player in college football history," said a college football writer at the press conference, tears streaming down his face. "He might have been the greatest person to ever walk on earth."” 6:19:41 AM 1/12/09 “:-)” 6:28:33 AM 1/12/09 “He had to ascend into heaven because he can't ascent to the NFL until it's present messiah (Manning) is slain.” 6:52:23 AM 1/12/09 “Poor dayhiker. Still stinging because Tebow decided not to bring much needed class and backbone to Alabama. "What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." Oscar Wilde” 8:37:36 PM 1/12/09 “arc - if you'll go back and review reading comprehension from elementary school you'll see that the article is actually making fun of the medias treatment of Tebow. I actually like Tebow as a person and player.” 4:29:24 AM 1/13/09 “I can't dispute any of your words Arc concerning the greatness of Tebow. He is perfect. Maybe too perfect. Two championships, a Heisman, 3.5 GPA, 890 SAT scores, good christian guy who does mission trips to serve the poor in his spare time. It's all just too perfect. Mark my words, he will either be killed in a car wreck or caught sucking dick at a truck stop by the end of this year. He's too perfect to not be brought down a few pegs. LOL!” 4:43:03 AM 1/13/09 “ROTFLMAO @Dayhiker....day did yoiu write that? If so you have managed in what five paragraphs to be funnier than the entire past 10 years of Saturday Night Live. Good Job. This means he has to acquire constant nutrition, no matter what the source. Thanks for the picture, Violin. This will go down as another reason to get you banned from this site.” 7:25:32 AM 1/14/09 “There's a youtube video out there of a Bama basketball assistant doing the same, only he licks his finger afterwards. Speaking of roundball, anyone see the beat down UK put on UT and the night that UK guy had? On second thought, I'll post this on the b-ball thread since chili isn't a football fan right now. Fairweather fan.” 8:10:49 AM 1/14/09 “I figured you might be just having good fun, dayhiker. To tell the truth though, even though I probably should have known better, I wasn’t absolutely sure. My perceptions are always less then perfect. It is pretty funny in one respect. By and large most of the media do tend to fawn over Tim Tebow. But in another respect I find it amazingly cynical because I know that there are folks out there who just can't believe that a person like Tebow exists. And there are persons who feel a slimy need to belittle exemplary behavior. I was having dinner with my step-daughter the other night. We got into a conversation with the waitress at the restaurant. She said that Tebow, Meyer, and a number of the players often came to eat there. She said Tim is exactly what you see. He's a regular guy who always takes the time to talk with folks and sign autographs. And he does it with a gracious sense of humility. There's nothing phony about this guy. But many of the phonys of this world just can't believe that a guy like that really exists. It just drops my jaw that some folks feel a need to make fun of honorable behavior. I guess it always amazes me to know that there are a lot of sleazebags out there. I'm still not sure why I hold on to that naivety. I tend to want to believe the best about folks but I've obviously got some blind spots about how some people prefer to live their lives. I'm afraid I still haven't got over some resentments and prejudices I have. Having ties there, having done much business there, and after years of reading news articles sent by a good friend of mine who lives there, I have some serious issues with the attitudes of many folks in the northeast. In my personal experience, I have found almost to a person that the business people I have dealt with in the NY/NJ area are rude, pushy, overpriced, sloppy, incompetent, rip-offs, liars, money-grubbing cynics, or some combination thereof. It's a whole different culture than what I'm used to here in Florida. I'm not so used to having to keep a watchful eye over people here as I have to when dealing with business people from that area. They often seem to be trying to sneak one hand into your pocket. I've seen a lot of cynical articles from that that area of the country and it makes me a bit prickly sometimes. I tend to translate that to ALL articles, even those in good fun. It's my mistake. I know that some folks revel in negativity. I had a conversation with a woman from NJ last year. We were talking about my lake property. After her constant barrage of all the reasons why owning lake property in Florida was such a bad idea, I almost felt as if I should shoot myself in the head for owning a piece of paradise. Some people feel an envious need to drag other people down to their level and/or to belittle the accomplishments of others. I need to do a better job of letting that nonsense go. I find it (somewhat) funny that the media, after years of belittling his behavior, fondly refer to Spurrier as "The Ol' Ball Coach" now that he's having little success. I am so proud to have a coach like Urban Meyer and a player like Tim Tebow representing my team. But excessive pride has been, and always will be, my downfall. Excessive pride is everyone's downfall. That's why I poke so much fun at Bama fans. Unfortunately, you just happen to be conveniently available. It is always more constructive for me to work on my own shortcomings rather than worrying about the shortcomings of others. Mea Culpa. BTW- I'm still digesting your last email. I'm trying to pick out some good examples from my own life. Actually, I'm trying to pick out some bad examples and there's so much to choose from. It's recruiting season and I'm excited. But more that that, I'm anxiously awaiting the decisions of Percy Harvin and Brandon Spikes. It was wonderful when the Florida basketball team decided to return intact to try for another championship. That's teamwork and loyalty at its best. In our sometimes cynical sports world, I'd love to see them show another example like that. "Harvin told Sun Sports on Sunday that he was leaning toward remaining at UF, but at least one family member has said that Harvin plans to enter the draft, where he is projected to be a possible top 25 pick. Spikes,a first-team All-America, told some of his teammates last week that he plans to return for his senior season, but he apparently is holding off an announcement until the final day for underclassmen to declare for the draft. If Spikes elects to stay at UF, the Gators will return all 11 starters on defense." http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20090114/NEWS/901140927/1130?Title=Waiting_game__NFL_decision_time_for_Harvin__Spikes last edited: 1/15/09 8:13:02 AM” 8:26:08 AM 1/15/09 “WASHINGTON — A handful of lawmakers used a resolution commending the University of Florida's national football championship Thursday to protest college football's much-maligned BCS system. A dozen House members voted "no" or "present" on the resolution, the latest signal from the nation's capital that many people aren't happy about the way the NCAA chooses its football champion. Many of the dissenters were from Utah and Texas, both of which have schools that made a case to play for this year's national championship but were passed over. "A fine school with a great team deserves better than a national championship that was decided inside somebody's computer," said Rep. Joe Barton, a Texas Republican who has introduced legislation to force a playoff system. "The Gators certainly could have won it on the field, but they didn't get the chance any more than Utah, Texas and USC." President Barack Obama also has repeatedly criticized the Bowl Championship Series, saying he plans to "throw [his] weight around a little bit" to pressure the NCAA to adopt a playoff system. The BCS was created in 1998 by the six most powerful conferences. It features a title game between the top two teams in standings that are based on two human polls and six computer rankings. This season, Florida (12-1) met Oklahoma (12-1) in the championship game. Florida won 24-14 and ended up with a 13-1 record. But the game was under scrutiny even before it began. Several schools that played in lesser bowls claimed they deserved a shot at the championship, including undefeated Utah (13-0), Texas (12-1) and Southern California (12-1). "Utah has a legitimate claim but we'll never know because they couldn't play for it," said Rep. Marion Berry, D-Ark., who said he also voted against the resolution because he thinks it's a waste of Congress' time. A spokesman for Rep. Bobby Bright, an Alabama Democrat and Auburn University graduate, said his reasons for not supporting the measure were simpler: He simply couldn't bring himself to support a school that is such a bitter rival of his state's universities. Although I've always been a proponent of a playoff and I would hope we could have eventually developed enough populous groundswell in a democratic manner. However, it seems we are living in more socialist minded times where the government prefers to stick it's neck into everything now. But the really good news is.... Bwaaaaahahahaha! I'll bet Tennessee and Jawja fans wish they had our Alabama mojo!” 4:06:32 PM 1/27/09 “I agree that Congress should be concentrating on other issues at this time. However, the last three seasons, the wrong teams have been picked as "national champions". Going backward in time they are: Utah, Kansas, Boise State. Talk amongst yourselves.” 3:05:58 PM 1/28/09 “I always talk to myself, Dunadan. I understand myself so well that I can sometimes even finish my own sentences. Recruiting rankings are a numbers game. The teams that recruited the most players got the higher rankings. Thank God Florida doesn’t have any gaps to fill. We just reload with quality. OVERALL ESPN TEAM RANKINGS: 1. Ahhh it sure is a luxury to have quality two to three deep and just reload with more quality. Would somebody hand-feed me more grapes please? Dunadan can have the sour ones. On the hysterical footnote side: Whoooeeee! That 'ol boy Lane Kiffin is rattling some first-down chains in the Southeastern Conference these days, isn't he? Kiffin hasn't even blown a whistle at Tennessee yet and already he's been reprimanded by the SEC commissioner, put in his place by the Florida athletic director and forced to apologize to a two-time national champion Gators coach -- all in the same day. The more Kiffin opens his mouth, the more you wonder whether Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis got it right when he canned the coach four games into the 2008 season. I mean, who knew the famed Power T logo at Tennessee stood for "Talk"? Thursday morning at a breakfast attended by more than 1,000 fans, Kiffin started stuffing his feet in his mouth. First, he said he was going to "turn Florida in right here in front of you" for violating NCAA recruiting rules. According to Kiffin, Gators coach Urban Meyer called recruit Nu'Keese Richardson during the wide receiver's visit to Knoxville. Lane Kiffin said it was enthusiasm. Florida thought otherwise. "Just so you know, when a recruit's on another campus, you can't call a recruit on another campus," Kiffin said. "I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn't get him." Man-made devices wouldn't have been able to measure the size of Kiffin's smirk. Problem is, Kiffin was spectacularly and laughably wrong. He was so wrong that Florida AD Jeremy Foley issued a statement that all but called 33-year-old Kiffin a punk. He was so wrong that SEC commissioner Mike Slive publicly attached Kiffin to the clothesline and let him dangle in the wind. "We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules," read Slive's statement. So far, Kiffin doesn't have an understanding of anything, including common sense. It's one thing to want to plant your school's flag into the recruiting landscape. It's another to stab your own foot doing it. Even Kiffin's late-afternoon apology was botched. He actually tried to rationalize the fact that he had accused another coach of cheating. "At an energetic breakfast with some of our donors and alumni I made a statement that was solely meant to excite the crowd," Kiffin said in his statement (everybody had a statement Thursday). "If I offended anyone at the University of Florida, including Mr. Foley and Urban Meyer, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intention." If you offended anyone at Florida? Your remarks were so dumb I think even Florida State coach Bobby Bowden was offended. Kiffin has been employed for a grand total of two months and change. Since then, he has guaranteed a victory at Florida next season; ticked off South Carolina's Steve Spurrier; detonated the fuse of the SEC's human C-4 explosive, Alabama's Nick Saban; suggested that heralded recruit Marlon Brown -- who chose Georgia over UT -- was a grandmama's boy; intimated that Richardson's high school in Pahokee, Fla., couldn't be trusted to fax the national letter of intent to Tennessee; charged Meyer with breaking rules; and gotten himself reprimanded by the league commish. And it's only February. It's OK to excite the crowd. Happens all the time. Jim Tressel did it not long after he became Ohio State's coach. Remember his little speech at halftime of a Buckeyes' hoops game: "I can assure you that you'll be proud of our young people, in the classroom, in the community and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor." Compared with Tressel, Kiffin has a flamethrower strapped to his back and is aiming the nozzle at the entire conference. The scorched-earth policy gets you cheap applause at a winter breakfast in Knoxville, but what happens when Tennessee travels to Florida in September, or to Alabama in October? You think Bama followers despised former UT coach Phillip Fulmer? Wait until Oct. 24 at Tuscaloosa. If I made Kiffin money ($2 million per year), I'd consider hiring security for the annual SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla., in May. Saban might try to leap across a table and stab him with a rib bone from Dreamland. Meyer might try to drop one of those two BCS crystal trophies on him. Some Tennessee fans might mistake Kiffin's knucklehead comments for strength, for assertiveness, for drawing a Rocky Top in the sand. But the truth is, Kiffin has done the near impossible: He has made Al Davis look as if he knows something Tennessee didn't. Kiffin played to the crowd Thursday morning. He manipulated, and he did so dishonestly. Most of all, he casually and carelessly tried to damage the reputation of Florida's Meyer. Even the most loyal Tennessee fan understands the difference between a rivalry and a rip job. The Vols' season officially opens Sept. 5 against Western Kentucky. But let's face it: Kiffin is already 0-1. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3887550&sportCat=ncf I guess you can’t spell UnTrue and Utterly Tactless without UT. last edited: 2/06/09 10:16:49 PM” 10:08:03 PM 2/06/09 “What a tool.” 10:44:26 AM 2/07/09 “OK, so in 2007 I was amazed that 50,000 people showed up for Florida’s Orange and Blue spring game. That’s more than some teams get for regular season games, and it may even be more than the number of Ohio State fans who enjoy looting and rioting after games. Then I read that Bama had 92,138-plus fans show up for 2007 A-Day (we can only speculate as to what the A stands for). Holy Cow! That was super-amazing. It makes me feel good that my SEC brethren show that level of support. This year, I was floored when 65,000 people showed up for Florida’s Orange and Blue spring game. This makes it the third largest 2009 spring game attendance in the country (Nebraska was second). Then I read that Bama had 84,050 fans show up for this year’s A-Day. That’s the largest spring game attendance once again. You can’t put a price on that kind of support. Bama makes the SEC proud. And if this trend continues, as it has on the football field, Florida will soon have the highest attendance of any spring game in the SEC, while Bama gets relegated to sloppy seconds or worse. Where’s everyone from? Bama? We’ve got someone from Bama? How ‘bout that A-Day spring game? The fans showed an amazing level of support. But the question’s got to be asked… …Did the team play an entire game, or did they quit in the fourth quarter? Thank you very much. You’ve been a great audience. Boy, I can't wait for those preseason rankings! They mean almost as much as the average sportscaster's opinion. last edited: 4/21/09 6:07:49 PM” 6:38:08 PM 4/21/09 “we would have had more, but ESPN decided that it was worth it to have Alabama's spring game on the TV. Bad thunderstorms were predicted too, but they didn't roll through. I think we would have had 5-8k more without the tv coverage and weather. Hell only the new north endzone upperdeck wasn't at capacity We were field level about the 20 yard line of the white teams bench. third string qb is horrible, 2nd string has potential. McEleroy is pretty good, but I don't think he can scramble, he's got a texas long bomb type of arm though.” 10:21:49 PM 4/21/09 “Isn't it a little early for Arc to be masturbating with his football helmet on? Sheesh, it's only April for christ's sake!” 3:03:39 AM 4/22/09 “I thought arclite retired and moved to Mexico.” 4:22:40 AM 4/22/09 “I was at the 07 Aday game. There were about 110-120k there that day. Each time a new section of the stadium would open it would immediately fill. After walking about around with 3 kids in tow for about 45 minutes we went back to the tailgate we were attending and partake of the crawfish boil. Free beer and crawfish are hard to turn down. The Quad was almost as full as it is during game day and this was DURING the Aday game.” 4:42:32 AM 4/22/09 “This may not be football, but you gotta acknowledge the accomplish of these college atheletes. 10th national championship. Tenth! http://www.georgiadogs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=44931&SPID=4004&DB_OEM_ID=8800&ATCLID=3722503” 9:10:45 AM 4/22/09 “yea, the quad wasn't as full this year, kinda not at all. Guess they didn't want to fight the threat of high winds, heavy t-storms, and tornados” 9:19:35 AM 4/22/09 “Isn't it a little early for Arc to be masturbating with his football helmet on? Sheesh, it's only April for christ's sake! Nigal 3:03:39 AM 4/22/09 I just rubbed one out for the Gators at work. Jump on the wagon Nigal, lol!” 9:25:57 AM 4/22/09 “All the usual suspects have returned for another season of- GATOR FOOTBALL!!! We've got Opie- A man of mixed heritage married to one of THOSE people. We've got Nigal- A pathetically bitter dwarf from the frozen tundra. We've got Dayhiker- A typical Alabama fan (nuff said). We've got gojo- A fan rooting for some obscure team which we can never remember because they disappear from sight during the season. We've got Wounded Knee- I can't seem to remember which SEC team he roots for. We've got Chili- As fine an example of an honorable humanitarian as there ever was (we've got to help this poor wretch out of his severe depression). We've got Arclite- What's that smell? Smells like an obnoxious butthead who is having one heck of a time trying to contain himself since he's said 2009 IS THE YEAR OF THE GATOR for the past two years. Can everyone say target? I knew you could. Be gentle this year. You know how kind I've been to everyone in the past. last edited: 4/23/09 4:47:39 PM” 5:19:18 PM 4/23/09 “*nods to arclite* Mr. Arclite, I'm torn this year. My team totally turned on the coach I grew to love. I've been with them since a certain player that wore #34 was tearing up the field. Is it ok for me to go back to the team my family raised me on, and not be a total sellout? signed, AUwful A.D. hater” 6:42:00 PM 4/23/09 “I always find it a shame when that stuff happens. I liked Tommy and I liked Phil too. I thought both of them were class acts. But I remember when we got rid of Doug Dickey (ex-Tennessee coach and AD) and brought in (Cheatin') Charley Pell. I remember when we got rid of Charley and got (Cheatin') Galen Hall. I remember when we got rid of Galen (now Penn. St. offensive coordinator) and got Gary Darnell. I remember when we got rid of Darnell (went to Notre Dame, Texas, and Texas A&M) and got Steve Spurrier. I remember when Spurrier got rid of us and we got Ron Zook. I remember when we got rid of Zook and snatched Urban away from Notre Lame. I think Urban's happy with his decision. I think he's very happy. He loves Gainesville and he's a college coach. But there isn't as much loyalty as there used to be. And it's much harder to win consistently now that you can't load up your team with twice as many players as the other guys. I think Urban will quit when he burns out. Or he may just try to save ND in the future. After Spurrier bailed, I gave up my crystal ball. Florida fans my age (the guys with the booster bucks) know we've got it good. I think most of us would have the loyalty to stick with Urban even if we missed out on going to the SEC Championship for a few years. And, in the SEC, that's likely to happen at some point. But I don't know the mentality of the young fans. I think they're probably a little spoiled. Then there's AD Jeremy Foley to consider. He built Florida into one of the powerhouse sports programs in the country. We've won national championships in a lot of different sports. Our girl's softball team is currently ranked #1. He doesn't accept mediocrity but he has seemed to be loyal to coaches who don't do well every year. In my opinion, there's too much "Forget last year, what have you done for me this year?" creeping into college football from the pros. Peoples' attention spans seem to be getting shorter. Heck, I post more than a couple of paragraphs and people complain. I figure a lot of them don't even bother to read the links I post. I've always loved the long-term loyalty that college football inspires. All of us here know that the pros got nothing on college ball. Hell, most pros can't even get 84,000 fans to show up for the regular season. There isn't a team in the SEC that I don't like. I mean, how cool is it to play in the SEC and have all those awesome games every week? How cool is it to have all that fan support? How cool are those campus tailgates? I pity fans that always root against the other teams in their conferences. I've always liked Auburn's power football. Playing Auburn, LSU, Jawja, and Tennessee every year isn't a recipe for winning a lot of championships, but I don't care. I remember Bo well. I really miss those knock-down, drag-out, smash-mouth, Florida/Auburn games. They so often came down to the wire. There always seemed to be something about Florida/Auburn that brought it out in both teams. You're asking my permission? Think about that for a moment. Good lord man, that's just sick! last edited: 4/23/09 7:56:43 PM” 8:19:59 PM 4/23/09 “HAHAHAHAHAHA” 9:23:26 AM 4/24/09 “"We've got Wounded Knee- I can't seem to remember which SEC team he roots for." the one(s) that can beat Florida.
