The latest is that they ended the season ranked 10th in the nation in 1992. I'm sticking with my optimism, because, well, what else do I have?” 7:42:21 AM 6/24/03 “I went to collegefootballpoll.com and did a search on Kansas. It kept having "Ar" in front of it. Don't know what's up with that. It says that in the AP poll that Kansas finished 1992 at #22 and 1995 at #9.” 7:51:00 AM 6/24/03 “Keep your head up Dunny. It's important to have dreams.” 8:13:26 AM 6/24/03 “FLORIDA 2003: Miami Tennessee LSU Jawja Florida State There's part of a lovely schedule. Day, I'm not ready to make a final judgement on the Zooker just yet. Now that he's had a year to install his system, we'll start to learn whether he can coach or not. JO, the Big East has the best bowl record of any conference over the last three years. You won't find me disrespecting them. Rock, chalk, Jayhawk! I expect to see some amazing football from those Kansas Jayhawks this year. Just got out of the hospital after a lobotomy. How's everyone?” 6:07:43 AM 6/26/03 “I think UT should schedule Kansas for homecoming. It would be a heck of a lot better than scheduling Miami,,,,like last year.” 11:03:29 AM 6/26/03 I'LL TAKE THAT CHALLENGE! “Kansas will gladly play Tennessee on any basketball court in the country....uummmmmm....ooops, I guess this is the football thread.....Never mind!!!!” 8:26:08 AM 6/27/03 “I'm sure the Lady Volunteers would take you up on that challenge.” 8:28:48 AM 6/27/03 “We could have a double whammy,,,,Kansas for Football and Ladies Basketball homecoming.” 8:39:22 AM 6/27/03 “hey Buddha Bear, your buckeye buddy, Kirk Herbstreet, said said the Pack would take the Buckeyes on a neutral site and may still get them in Columbus. Of course, he was addressing an ACC crowd. He probably speaks out of the other side of his mouth in Buckeye Country. GO PACK!!!!!” 11:58:34 AM 6/27/03 “I find it difficult to give a lot of thought to a football 5:45:05 PM 7/10/03 “That's almost as bad as football info from an Auburn grad.” 5:48:50 PM 7/10/03 hold on now... “hey now, I went to UC Santa Cruz (no football program AT ALL) and I'd say coming from there I know a fair amount about college football. I don't think you necessarily have to go to school that has a huge football program to know what you're talking about.” 11:01:09 PM 7/12/03 sierrapacktrip “Greetings from your NCAA Football National Champions, The Ohio State Buckeyes. Generally speaking, the majority of West Coast Football fans are more interested in their bands and rose bowl floats than in the game of football. The midwest is where it's at, always has been, and always will be.” 12:42:27 AM 7/13/03 “fooseball ...is da debil...” 12:44:00 AM 7/13/03 I knew this was coming - just not from bbear “Buddha Bear: Sorry to hear about your ignorant side. I had no idea! I had higher hopes for you...I really did. Travel a bit, read a bit, and most important...follow your college football a LITTLE CLOSER my friend. There's hope for you... Yes, the Mid-West, East, and South have great programs. I take nothing away from that. But you'd be a fool like the rest to overlook the West when it comes to football. Don't be a follower of the stereotype. Focus on the trend the West has been setting over the past decade. Look to the future and see the further changes realignment brings to the Nation's conferences. Times have changed, and are changing every year. The West is becoming stronger and stronger each and every season. Maybe you're not ignorant after all...maybe you're just scared? :-0” 2:08:37 AM 7/13/03 “BTW BBear: Wasn't aware of your expertise in the area of West Coast fans. From your statements on this post, and speaking as one of them, I'd say you don't know jack $%@! about us.” 2:11:42 AM 7/13/03 sierrapacktrip “Hello again from the home of the 2002 NCAA College Football National Champions, The Ohio State Buckeyes. "But you'd be a fool like the rest to overlook the West when it comes to football." I'll take my chances and overlook them, just like we did with highly ranked Washington State last year. "Don't be a follower of the stereotype. Focus on the trend the West has been setting over the past decade." Last decade? According to the AP, USA/CNN and BCS Rankings, since 1992, there hasn't been any National Champions coming out of the West Coast. In last year's bowl games alone, in Western v. other parts of the country matchups, the west took 3, while other took 8 games, with your winners being, Boise State, Fresno State and UCLA. I'd rather focus on the STANDARD that the Big Ten has set. "Wasn't aware of your expertise in the area of West Coast fans. From your statements on this post, and speaking as one of them, I'd say you don't know jack $%@! about us." Numbers don't lie. We look forward to padding our numbers against West Coast teams agin this year, it is, after all, the trend.” 7:05:33 AM 7/13/03 “I'm a Fresno State fan. We've had great success against the Big 10. So have most of the teams in the PAC 10 and couple teams in the MWC. Just because west coast teams haven’t won a championship in a while doesn’t mean they can’t compete with you guys. Get real! The Mid West isn’t the only place that wins NC’s anyway. If I recall correctly, Ohio State hadn’t won one since 1968…but all of a sudden your acting like they’re going to repeat (or someone in the Big 10 will) every year in the future. Come on… Weren’t the last 6 out of 7 championships won by SOUTHERN teams?? I knew Washington State was way overrated all last season - no surprise there. How about USC? Oh, I guess they suck too... Didn't they have the Heisman Trophy winner? Nahh...west coast teams never have any talent, do they? They suck, right? I never said the West was going to overtake the Mid West, East or South and start winning NC's year after year. The West used to be more of an equal with the rest of the country's conferences up until a few decades ago. Then in the late 80's through the early 90's all the West Coast conferences took a dump for some reason. I’m not just talking about NC’s, I’m talking about on the whole. But in the past DECADE all the west teams are starting to step up. 10 years ago, who was talking about teams like Fresno State and Boise State? Nobody. Now even YOU do. It’s not just the PAC 10 anymore. Teams in the WAC and MWC are stepping up. More universities in the West are investing in their football programs. There IS a trend. Deal with it. And to say that fans over hear only care about bands and floats is an ignorant and ridiculous statement. I guess Raider fans fit that mold? These same fans watch NCAA football on the west coast dude. Oh…forget it. I’m done here. It’s pointless to argue this crap with you. I deal with enough people like you and the same stupid East vs. West BS on all the football boards I visit.” 12:45:30 PM 7/13/03 “Anyway Buddha, football is the only thing I've really ever disagreed with you on. I can live with that. :-) I just realized that I got a little heated in that last response. Please don't take offense - got a little carried away - I do that sometimes. Respond to it if you must, but I'm done. I'd rather talk about backpacking anyway. That's why I'm here! ;-)” 12:52:39 PM 7/13/03 “Hey sierrapacktrip, don't sweat it dude. The buckeyes dreams of a repeat are coming crashing down on Sept 13th.” 11:30:53 PM 7/13/03 “Judging from some of the reports coming out some of those "champs" shouldn't have even been on the field due to some cheatting. Then again, OSU ball players never were known for smarts were they. How many short busses would it take to get the buckeyes to their away games?” 12:13:14 AM 7/14/03 “I'd rather focus on the STANDARD that the Big Ten has set. Buddha Bear 07:05:33 AM 07/13/03 BB has a point--Big Ten is a good conference. They even beat the lower rung teams in the SEC from time to time.” 1:58:19 AM 7/14/03 “Hey hey hey! OSU played some real powerhouses this year! We had… Texas Tech Kent State Washington State Cincinnati San Jose State Talk about a tough non-com pick of games! I do not dispute OSU’s win over Miami, they won (with a little help from the ref and a teacher passing Maurice even after he walked out of an exam). My contention is that with a creampuff schedule like this they should have NEVER been ranked #1 or #2 to even make it into the championship game. And with the 2003 schedule having such puzzy teams as San Diego State, North Carolina State, and Bowling Green we just might see the fiasco repeat itself. BCS blows!” 8:00:57 AM 7/14/03 “Nigal you just showed your ignorance. NC State is ranked in the top 15 in every respected preseason poll. We finshed the season last year by beating FSU and Notre Dame. Even Herbstreet has said that the Wolfpack would beat OSU outside of the Horseshoe (or whatever that bucknut place is called) and stands a good chance of doing it at the Buckkeyes home field. Things are changing in the ACC.” 1:28:32 PM 7/14/03 “I meant no offence but top 15 is Not what I would expect from a national championship caliber team to choose to play as a non com game. When is OSU gonna step up and play Notre Dame? When will they step up and play the big boys? I was personally surprised when I saw OSU was playing the Gamecocks because they go phucked by them two years in a row in their bowl game, if I’m not mistaken.” 1:38:46 PM 7/14/03 “South Carolina is the Gamecocks. NC State is the Wolfpack. And yes, South Carolina of the SEC did trounce OSU of the Big Eleven in those bowl games.” 1:41:58 PM 7/14/03 “Notre Dame isn't big time anymore. Thats why you will see them in a conference within the next few years. Any AD who scheduled only top 15 teams as out-of-conference should be fired.” 1:42:48 PM 7/14/03 “Give ND a chance and 2 years. Ty will rebuild this program into what it once was. As for other teams, no one plays a real tough schedule. I love watching all college sports, especially football. I cannot think of one team that plays a schedule so much tougher than anyone. I have been watching Notre Dame football since I was young. Even their schedule can feature small weak teams. These weak teams love playing th ebig boys though. First, if you are a Miami of Ohio and you play ND, in most cases you will be viewed by tens of thousands of people on a major network. This is big for these small weaker teams. Occasionally, these teams raise up and beat up the big boys. Bring on the 03-04 season. GO ND!” 1:49:39 PM 7/14/03 “Michigan's non-conference football schedule: Central Michigan, Houston, The over rated Norte Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon. Ohio State: Washington, San Diego State, NC State, Bowling Green I believe we have two ranked teams in there, you have one. Houston? Who has the powder puff schedule? This message was brought to you by your 2002 NCAA National Football Champions. A team which has neither the names Michigan or Wolverines in it. In other words, The Ohio State Buckeyes.” 1:49:40 PM 7/14/03 “Another reason powderpuff teams are played is because most of them are happy to take a big payoff for playing an away game without requiring the powerhouse team to schedule a matching home game at the powderpuffs 30,000 seat stadium.” 1:55:58 PM 7/14/03 “It is good to be proud Buddha! The Buckeyes had a great team last year. I was wondering what you think of the following, be honest. I do not know how to spell the name of the RB from Miami that messed up his knee in the bowl game in the 3rd quarter, but do you think the Buckeyes would have still won if he remained in the game? He ran all over their defense.” 2:02:25 PM 7/14/03 Buddha Bear's Top Ten NCAA Games in 2003 “10. Cal @ K. State - This season opener is going to have huge implications on who will finish last in the Pac-Ten and Big 12. 9. Washington @ Ohio State - Buckeyes win huge while Jerry Springer gains in the Polls. 8. Notre Dame v. Michigan - The preseason Over-rated Bowl. Notre Dame wins when touchdown blocks last minute FG attempt. 7. Pittsburg @ Toledo - My alma mater upsets a ranked team every year.... your turn Pitt! 6. Alabama v. Arkansas - Dayhiker rejoices as the Tide rolls the backs! 5. San Diego State v. UCLA - This is the "pick the pac-ten game, it really doesn't matter" bowl. Who cares who wins the game, as long as we know who had the best float! 4. Morgan State at Bethune Cookman - WTF, they actually have football teams at these schools! Winner of this game automatically gets scheduled to play Michigan in 2005. 3. Georgia @ Florida - In pregame alumni bowl, Georgia and Florida's govoners have to pardon 64 people so each team can field an alumni squad. 2. Cornell @ Dartmouth - Ice Tea scores winning touchdown as Dartmouth wins in OT! 1. Ohio State v. Michigan - If Michigan was a body part, they'd be the Gooch on Ohio State. Buckeyes win, Michigan cries.” 2:28:33 PM 7/14/03 “BTW - My apologies to all 13 Bethune Cookman alumni out there, I didn't mean to be so mean.” 2:34:31 PM 7/14/03 “Alabama has been declared to have the toughest schedule in the country this upcoming season. We open with South Florida who was 9-2 last year. Next we play a team called Oklahoma, you might have heard of them. The other three non-conference teams are Northern Illinois who was 8-4 last year, Southern Miss who always gives folks trouble and then Hawaii the week after the Auburn game. Bama could go 7-6 and still have a good team.” 2:34:58 PM 7/14/03 “I cannot think of one team that plays a schedule so much tougher than anyone I can--UK (Kentucky), because every team they play is better than them, with the possible exception of Vanderbilt, our one guaranteed win each season.” 2:35:17 PM 7/14/03 “"I believe we have two ranked teams in there, you have one. Houston? Who has the powder puff schedule?" Um, hello? The five odd years ago this year's schedule was set both ND and Organ were top rated teams. Wahsington is a consistantly rated team but NCS can hardly be called a yearly powerhouse. BTW- speaking of gooches, how's yer mom? LOL!” 2:38:14 PM 7/14/03 BB's 2002 CFThread Highlights “Top Ten Reasons why the OSU Buckeyes will be #1 10. Most of our players are from Ohio, the breadbasket and birthplace of FOOTBALL. 9. Jim Tressel 8. Our cheerleaders are much hotter than SEC or Big 12 cheerleaders. 7. Only 15% of our players are criminals, as opposed to FSU at 90%, Florida at 50%, etc. 6. Competition. Everyone knows the Big Ten is the Best Division. 5. Mo Clarrett 4. Steve Bellasorry is a distant nightmare (BTW, I'll take fries with that Steve, and hurry up b!tch, I don't want my burger to get cold) 3. When we beat perennially overrated Michigan, we'll jump up a few spots. 2. SEC, PAC-10 & Big 12 teams - overrated. 1. When daddy puts a hurtin' on ya, we don't send daddy to jail here, instead, on his helment we shall place..... BUCKEYE!" Buddha Bear 04:24:45 PM 09/11/02 Call me Nostrodamus, but this did happen, for all the reasons I mentioned above. :)” 2:40:39 PM 7/14/03 “Stickman - the third game of the year UK and UA play in the probation bowl. Should be real exciting. And, we both have first year coaches.” 2:40:58 PM 7/14/03 “dayhiker: Depends on what poll you look at or what publication. Most I've seen have ranked Fresno State's schedule the toughest.” 2:41:15 PM 7/14/03 “Army has yet another year of Coach Todd "Dingle" Berry to look forward to. Navy fans must be salivating. Maybe when he loses the big game again this year they hire a coach.” 2:42:39 PM 7/14/03 “I hadn't heard that. I'll check it out. I'll play along, how can a West coast team have the hardest schedule when you play West coast teams? It's something of a conundrum.” 2:42:46 PM 7/14/03 “Fresno State? What, do they have the toughest Float Schedule? Or are you talking about volleyball. SPT, this is a football board, try starting a volleyball board!” 2:44:11 PM 7/14/03 “LMAO dayhiker!” 2:44:45 PM 7/14/03 “Everyone needs to realize too that most OCC teams you schedule to play are scheduled years and years in advance. Those teams might have been upper crust at the time, and chumps when you play them. Might also be the other way around. It's a coin toss making up a schedule. But you can make a calculated decision. Some teams are never good and are inexcusable when I see some of the OOC schedules of the BCS teams out there.” 2:44:56 PM 7/14/03 “sportingnews.com has us no where near to toughtest schedule in the conference. Some publications do have us with toughtest in the country. There's a bit of variability there, so I'll shut up about it.” 2:45:35 PM 7/14/03 “BB: Have you even taken the time to look at your schedule? How about read what the EXPERTS have written? I'm only restating what THEY have said. Go have your disagreements with them.” 2:46:12 PM 7/14/03 “BB only sees through red and grey glasses. We've been trying to tell him that the little eleven sucks for two years now. He just walks to party line. I think the little eleven wins the award for most boring brand of football. I will give in that at least the boys out West do play a fun to watch brand of ball.” 2:48:07 PM 7/14/03 “at Tennessee Oregon State at Oklahoma at Colorado State at Hawaii Boise State You be the judge. I just post the facts.” 2:48:11 PM 7/14/03 Here is what the fans are saying “2002-2003 Results -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Which is the best conference in NCAA football? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACC - 2.9% Big East -5.7% Big Ten - 33.7% Big 12- 21.5% Conference USA - 0.9% MAC- 1.0% PAC-10 - 7.8% SEC - 26.1% Total votes: 62033 Source ncaafootball.net” 2:50:19 PM 7/14/03 Jump to Page << prev
