Army is going back to independent status Violin. The are thinking of playing a nation-wide schedule, whatever that means.

Navy made really fast strides under Paul Johnson, who is in his second season and headed to a bowl. It's good to see the Squids doing well (don't tell my swabbie friends I said that!). It will be better when Army is too.

Some years back, Army and Navy both went to bowls. Navy won theirs; Army lost. But Army won the only game that counts that year.

The West Point motto: Duty, Honor, Country, Beat Navy!

playing a nation-wide schedule means finding opponents who need an easy homecoming game. They’ll join a conference when they have something to bring to the table.

Army can always count on Tomato U to be there for them.

Army was in Conference USA. Weak as that conference is, they couldn't win much with Coach "Dingle" Berry at the helm.

Here's how it's done, boys and girls.
Leave it to old Uncle Dunny to tell you kids how to participate in the annual "Trail Talk Win One To Become God" football contest.
You pick the winner of each bowl game. The game you feel most confident about is listed as your number one game. If you predict it correctly, you get 28 points. You get zero points for an incorrect prediction. Number two game gets you 27 points if you are correct, and so on.....
I will step up to the plate on my next post.
Good luck, suckers!

As tempting as it was to view the order of your picks, I have refrained in true sportsmanlike fashion. That means I'm like a sportsman... sort of.

Instead, I spent the last few days pouring over power ratings, injury reports, offenses, defenses, rushing leaders, passing leaders, receiving leaders...

Finally I thought, THIS IS NUTS! And I ended up throwing darts at a board.

Best guess folks. If I were the current football god I could afford to be cocky. But I got my butt kicked last year.

One thing I know fur shur. I can't possibly do any worse than DUMBADAN! Man, if he don't make it to Sipsey, let's burn his effigy and make up horrible stories about his character that we can post here.

Well at least we found out who the fans are. Those folks who are willing to stick their necks out and make mistakes in public, that's who.

Cowards are the rest of ya. Cowards I say. Notice how there are no tiny-ten fans who picked. No big-east fans. No ACC fans. No pac10 fans. What league's fans are most represented here? Hmmmmmmm... Could it be the league that leads the nation in game attendance every year?

And no Auburn fans arc, don't forget the Aubies. All Cocoa can ever say is 28-23. That's typical of an Aubie. Their whole self-image rises and falls with respect to how they do against Bama. Bama measures itself against it own standards. Yes, we sucked this year, but it's not because we were beaten by Auburn.

What does the average Alabama player get on his SATs?
Drool.

What do you get when you put 32 Arkansas cheerleaders in one room?
A full set of teeth.

How do you get a South Carolina cheerleader into your dorm room?
Grease her hips and push.

How do you get a Georgia graduate off your porch?
Pay him for the pizza.

How do you know if a Mississippi State football player has a girlfriend ?
There is tobacco spit on both sides of his pickup.

Why is the Kentucky football team like a possum?
Because they play dead at home and get killed on the road.

What are the longest three years of an Auburn football player's life?
His freshman year.

How many Florida freshmen does it take to change a light bulb?
None. That's a sophomore course.

Where was O. J. headed in the white Bronco?
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He knew that the police would never look at LSU for a Heisman Trophy winner.

Why did Tennessee choose orange as their team color?
You can wear it to the game on Saturday, hunting on Sunday, and picking up trash along the highways the rest of the week.

I have to admit, it's the SEC fans who have the cajones on this site, and stepped up to make their picks. I'm real surprised the Little Eleven fans whimped out. I would expect it from most conferences, but not them. I guess when you live that far north, you have to blow a lot of hot air.
You have to excuse the Big Twelve fans. There aren't enough people living in the Midwest to even populate Miami, let alone find a website like this.
Carry on, you football fanatics!

To Chili:
City Braces for Peach Bowl

By CHIP TOWERS
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer
December 9, 2003

ATLANTA (UP)- Mayor Shirley Franklin and the Atlanta City
Police commented late Sunday night on Clemson University
and the University of Tennessee being paired in the annual
Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl. This year the Peach Bowl will be
played on January 2nd.

Speaking at a youth rally, Mayor Franklin expressed concern
over the schools that were chosen to be in the Peach Bowl.
"Since I have been in office we have worked very closely
with the City Police to handle volatile situations such as
FreakNic, flag protests, and numerous civil rights marches,
but that may pale in comparison to what will happen at New
Years this year."

Traditionally Clemson University and the University of
Tennessee are well represented at bowl games in which they
play. Terry Don Phillips, the Director of Athletics for
Clemson, says they expect more than 30,000 fans to go to
Atlanta for the game. Mike Hamilton, the Director of
Athletics for Tennessee, says he guesses that about 30,000
UT fans will make the trip also.

What concerns Mayor Franklin and Chief of Police Richard
Pennington is 60,000+ fans that are generally perceived as
"Red Necks" in one place. Chief Pennington says that they
have already heard that Skoal Smokeless Tobacco, Old Crow
Whiskey, Marlboro, Swisher Sweet Cigars, Dodge Ram Pickups,
Pedigree Dog Food, Wrangler Blue Jeans, Utz Pork Rinds,
Clear Blue Easy Home Pregnancy, and many others are sending
marketing representatives for the Bowl Game.

Charles Goodwin, President of the Atlanta Area Hotel
Association, says that his association is concerned by the
picks also. "Every Motel 6, Red Roof Inn, and Howard
Johnson has been booked within 50 miles of the city.
However the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, and every Hilton
and Marriot have less than 20% occupancy for the same
time."

Thomas Gunding of KOA Camping in Georgia says that they are
excited about the Clemson-UT matchup. "Everyone in the
campground industry knows that Clemson and UT fans love to
sleep outdoors, so we are really excited about this game."
When asked if rates would increase with demand, Gunding
replied "We find that the normal Clemson and UT fan will
not pay more than $8 a night for a site, so we will try to
keep it in that range -- oh, and pets including sheep are
allowed."

When asked what specific precautions Atlanta would take for
the swarming orange clad fans from both schools, Chief
Pennington replied "On I-75 and I-85, we will be setting up
gun rack removal road blocks and marriage license
inspection points leading into the city". When asked about
the marriage license inspection, Pennington said "Atlanta
City Statute 413-A states that no one is permitted into the
City who is unlawfully married to their Sister, Brother,
Mother, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt, Uncle, or
first cousin of either sex by birth." Pennington also
stated that no farm animals will be allowed to stay
overnight in Atlanta City Hotels, nor will overnight
sleeping in pickup truck beds be permitted anywhere within
the city limits.

When told of these restrictions, Clemson's Terry Don
Phillips and UT's Mike Hamilton said that the number of
fans may very well be cut in half. Terry Don Phillips said
that he was in negotiations with numerous farms in the
Gwinnett County area to try to accommodate those Clemson
fans traveling with animals. UT's Hamilton said that he
will be in touch with Mayor Franklin to try and relax the
marriage inspections.

Stay tuned for further developments.
