I don't know why, but I have a good feeling about this game. Most years I do not. All the hype around Meyer, the Vols as underdogs, and having won the last two in the Swamp...those intangibles favor UT. But I think it will be another classic and could go either way. How about them 'Dores! The Orgeron honeymoon is officially over. You gotta root for the league doormat when they catch a streak. Kentucky showed up well against Louisville too...looks like the SEC East is solid top to bottom.” 3:52:03 PM 9/17/05 “fine day in ABQ for the UNM Lobos and the NMSU Aggies. Lobos are 2-0. If they are really BCS bowl material, this should go like a scrimage. Or will they be the Lobos of old? My parents are picking me up, Roswell Alien Amber Ale, roast beef with green chili for the tailgate. Sunscreen day. I predict 45-6. last edited: 9/17/05 4:18:47 PM” 4:18:10 PM 9/17/05 “Dayhiker isn't this great!! I was there the last 2 times that Bama ran over Spurrier in 99. I love it!!” 5:52:42 PM 9/17/05 “arclite, you're correct, running the score up is a great thing, especially when Coach Superior is on the receiving end. Bama has now beaten Superior 3 consective times.” 6:37:52 PM 9/17/05 “Go Gators!” 8:12:38 PM 9/17/05 “Following the ND - Mich St.game on line... man that must have been something to watch. Now I'm following the BC - Fl. St. Go Eagles!” 8:29:48 PM 9/17/05 “good game. Horrid special teams by TN...I wonder how much FL paid our punter. :-D” 10:50:34 PM 9/17/05 “Poor Notre Dame. Another loss to the state of Michigan. And their website isn't functioning right now either. : ( Speaking of running up the score. Don't any of you come at me with that one with Arkansas. It's not our fault that our 3rd string players can still whip their butts.” 1:55:53 AM 9/18/05 “USC had over 700 yards on the piggies. The piggies did win in time of possession. That was ugly. Bama has Arkansas next week and then the Gaytors the following one.” 7:13:15 AM 9/18/05 3-0 “38-21 Lobos over Aggies. Great game great night. Lobos offense is AWESOME! First turnover of the year last night. McKamey, the quarterback led rushing with 152yds and was 12/19 for 172 yds, total three touchdowns. Dontrell Moore became the alltime leading UNM rusher and there was a record 44,760 in attendance. Second string offense 4th quarter, inexperienced defensive secondary got beat a few times. Lobos go to El Paso for UTEP next.” 9:08:46 AM 9/18/05 “Woo HOo!!!!! Take That, Notre Dame... ;-) MSU has won 5 games in a row AT Notre Dame. That was definitely a nail biter!!! Next week starts our Big 10 season! Tsk Tsk to U of M...(running up the score)... EMU was no match--it was about the equivalent of sending in grade schoolers to play against Varsity High School Football...” 10:26:11 AM 9/18/05 “As soon as I got home from the Stanford/Davis game, I put my MSU t-shirt on! Our game was probably the worst performance of our team I'd seen in 26 years of watching them. As bad as our previous coach was (Teevens), at least he can say he never lost to a division II team. If anyone loses to Stanford the rest of the year, they should just cancel their program.” 2:04:26 PM 9/18/05 “"Tsk Tsk to U of M...(running up the score)... EMU was no match--it was about the equivalent of sending in grade schoolers to play against Varsity High School Football...” Hey, just because MSU can't run up the score on anyone doesn't make it wrong. Oh wait, we lost to ND last week. [crawling back under my rock]” 2:14:15 PM 9/18/05 “UT exhibited the worst offensive game plan I have ever seen. After Riggs gets about 80 yards, they never go back to him. And WTF was Colquitt thinking? The Vols went down the tubes after that. Congrats to UF.” 5:42:12 PM 9/18/05 “IRISH! WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?!?!?” 6:00:18 PM 9/18/05 “Congrats to MSU too... ND should win every game they score 41 point in, but the defense didn't get the job done. I do think Stanton could be the second best QB the Irish face all season. But there is no excuse to let an opponent score that many points at your home. I do like Weis' reaction..."there are no moral victories. The players shouldn't feel good about the comeback...we still lost." Accountability like that never happened under our old coaches.” 4:30:44 AM 9/19/05 “good game. Horrid special teams by TN...I wonder how much FL paid our punter. :-D” longlosthiker 10:50:34 PM Terrible game, games like that just make me mad. I agree with Chili, Sanders has got to go. What is bothering me the most is that UF is not a good enough team to get beat by. I have never seen so little done with so much talent. last edited: 9/19/05 9:34:53 AM” 9:34:01 AM 9/19/05 “Sanders has had way too much time to develop. I hate to guess what yall could've accomplished with an actual OC over the last 5 years or so.” 9:35:49 AM 9/19/05 “Good article on Danny Wuerfell and his work in New Orleans since 96 http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=curry_bill&id=2162353” 9:40:48 AM 9/19/05 “Here's a pic of the fun part of our day this past Saturday: http://community.webshots.com/photo/56722407/455478674AiueyF” 1:54:08 PM 9/19/05 “The Domers are kinda quiet today....but here's what I don't get: The Irish beat the Wolverines, the Spartans beat the Irish, yet the rankings today have U of M over Notre Dame, and Notre Dame over the Spartans!! Hmmm....the computer ranking system????” 2:01:12 PM 9/19/05 “GRRRRR.... In the AP top 25.... The people ranking never give MSU full credit for the good games they play!!! At the very least, I think we should have ranked above both Notre Dame and U of M, but I guess it doesn't mean anything now, does it? If you go by mathematical logic... MSU beat Notre Dame Notre Dame Beat Michigan, shouldn't that make us higher than both Notre Dame AND Michigan?.... Especially since we are undefeated and both of them have a defeat under their belts?? U of M is SOOO over-rated.... One good thing... Looks like ESPN gives MSU the nod over Michigan AND Notre Dame... :-) At least someone's paying attention! :-D On a good note, however, Thinkbubelz made the observation that MSU is the highest ranked of the un-defeated teams in the Big 10 at this point. :-) Which makes us #1 in the Big 10 at the moment. (at least in my mind!) (Purdue doesn't really count because they've only played 2 games instead of 3)... Yes, I know, they are ranked higher in the polls, but they also have yet to show that they'll be 3 & 0....” 3:45:35 PM 9/19/05 “Terrible game, games like that just make me mad. I agree with Chili, Sanders has got to go. What is bothering me the most is that UF is not a good enough team to get beat by. I have never seen so little done with so much talent. We TN fans say the same thing every year about Sanders....but then they do just enough...eek out just enough wins so that the clamoring for a new OC dies down. Last year's great 10-3 season was just a few plays away from being a very dismal season. When you bring in some of the top talent in the nation and yet still struggle against KY, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and others who DO NOT bring in the same kind of talent...there is a problem. They should be beating some teams decisively, yet they do not. You watch, they'll pull 8 or 9 wins out of their arse (the defense alone is good enough to win some games) and people will stop calling for Sanders' head. With the tough schedule TN has this year, part of me hopes they'll have a real stinker of a season to force CPF to make some changes. last edited: 9/19/05 3:58:43 PM” 3:58:08 PM 9/19/05 “Bongofreek, I thought about you this weekend. At the beginning of the Notre Dame/Michigan St. game the announcer said, “Tradition seems hollow when you’re not winning.” I’m sure that Yale, with its 18 National Championships and Princeton with 17, feel that way as well. You had posted that defensive coach Greg Mattison was a Notre Dame reject. I looked up reject in the dictionary and it didn’t look complimentary. So I figured that you had to have mistyped “reject” and really had meant to use a different word. Especially after these stats: Florida defense vs. #5 Tennessee offense: 7 points, 66 yards rushing, 213 total yards Tennessee leading rusher Gerald Riggs Jr. held to 13 yards in the second half. Notre Dame Defense vs. unranked Michigan St. offense: 44 points, 161 yards rushing; 488 total yards I mean, Tennessee had a huge offensive line, and they run the ball straight at you. That’s what Tennessee does. Florida’s undersized defensive line was out manned by about 40lbs per player. But Florida stopped one of the most powerful running games in the country while Notre Dame couldn’t stop my grandmother. You must have meant to say that Notre Dame RESPECTS defensive coach Greg Mattison, they are sorry he decided to move on to a better program, and that Notre Dame sends Mattison and the GATORS their best wishes. It’s not surprising that you wish coach Mattison and Florida well, bongofreek. You just mistyped the word RESPECT. We all understand. Everyone knows just how classy Notre Dame fans are. Personally, I don’t know how Florida won the game. Tennessee basically manhandled Florida in the trenches both offensively and defensively. Tennessee kept knocking off the Florida player’s helmets. Florida’s players were dropping like flies. We lost our #2 receiver for the season with a broken leg. We lost our best defensive end to a torn ACL. No word on when he’ll be back this season if at all. And we got a controversial call again. Thank God for instant replay. But to tell you the truth, it looked like a catch to me. They showed one angle, from the end zone, where it looked as if he got his hands under the ball before he went down. The announcers all said that he trapped it and the instant replay official said he trapped it. They probably have better eyes than do I, but it looked like a catch to me. Special teams were the big surprise. Florida special teams play had been questionable in the first two games. They sure were special against the VOLS. The main thing that showed was Meyer’s conditioning program. The Gators looked good in the fourth quarter. Tennessee looked like they were sucking wind. Meyer stresses mental toughness as well as physical. The Gators finished strong this year and that was the difference between last year and this year’s outcomes. Tennessee’s defense played great. Was anyone impressed with Meyer’s spread option offense? Except for two drives, which netted only one touchdown, Florida didn’t look very good on offense. That reverse for the touchdown was the only spectacular thing I saw. They’ve been calling Meyer’s offense the “Spread and Shred.” It almost looked like the “Snooze and Lose” to me. Maybe Meyer needs to rework his offense for the SEC. Maybe Florida wasn’t running it properly (which is what Meyer intimated in his post game comments). Florida doesn’t look like a top 5 team to me, but they did manage to squeak by Tennessee. Tennessee looks strong. Florida needs to get better or Tennessee will still take the east. “Sauteed gator, I can't wait.” CHILI “…UT should win easy.” TRAILHOUND57 Looks as if we'll have some interesting discussions about perception at footballapallooza last edited: 9/19/05 4:20:08 PM” 4:15:37 PM 9/19/05 “arclite you give more credit to both UT and UF than I will this year. Although there are spots of brilliance every now and then, both teams look like Shreveport and Atlanta bound if you ask me. I do think our defense is the real deal but who cares when you have only scored 24 points going into week 4. I wish I could say that UT still should have won that game but what do you do when you have more confidence in your D scoring than your O. Hopefully, UT will find an identity on offense before next week.” 4:29:46 PM 9/19/05 “I agree TH, the whole feel of the game just didn't have that heavyweight feel to it. Sometimes when the big boys play it just has the feel and the stats suck because of it. I just didn't feel like I was watching too great teams. I can't explain it. I didn't know about the outcome of the two UF players. Sorry to hear it. I know well what it feels like to have your good players go down early.” 4:34:07 PM 9/19/05 “Could this be the solution to UT's QB woes: ”4:36:39 PM 9/19/05 “DH, The instant replay clearly shows a scratch and NOT a pick.” 4:50:02 PM 9/19/05 “LOL! I love Seinfeld! : )” 4:50:34 PM 9/19/05 “It was a pick, it was a pick!” 4:53:37 PM 9/19/05 “I'm still glad they brought in instant replay...but without it TN has the ball 1st and goal on the 1 foot line, and the score becomes 14-7 UT. Oh well....who's looking forward to the 'Dores, LSU showdown? :)” 4:53:38 PM 9/19/05 “The LSU/UT game should be a good one. Right now gridscape is in meltdown. Lord help the Bama boards if we lose to Ark this weekend.” 4:56:02 PM 9/19/05 “It's rollin' baby, it's rollin ”5:07:20 PM 9/19/05 caption for above.. “Here we see an example of pure Alabama backwoods skanktail rarely seen in captivity.” 5:12:07 PM 9/19/05 “Could this be the solution to UT's QB woes: ” dayhiker 4:36:39 PM That may be my favorite UT QB of all time at Tennessee, Jim Bob Cooter. Those poor suckers. A bunch of their good players from last year graduated. But still! The bRUINs aren't even ranked in the top 20. Bwah ha ha ha ha!” 7:12:46 PM 9/19/05 “TH - is that sort of like when Falcons fans tried to get jerseys that said Ron Mexico?” 8:05:43 PM 9/19/05 “arc- Notre Dame fans are classy, I'll give you that. Maybe there are a few things we agree on.” 2:01:02 AM 9/20/05 “It’s so nice to see you taking personal responsibility for your comments, bongofreek. That’s the mark of a classy person. And you’re obviously a man who knows his football. I just have a couple of questions for ya. Does the Pope have his own little bulletproof box at the stadium? What about the Cardinals? Do they wear those poofy little red caps to the games, or do they don one of those spiffy little leprechaun hats? And what about if Notre Dame plays Louisville? Where would their loyalties lie? These are important questions and inquiring minds want to know. You are so right, pixie. UCLA looked good. But maybe that game also speaks about how good Oklahoma has actually been over the past two years. It's hard to tell from one game. One thing is for sure: USC looks very good again. I know you're disappointed, trailhound, but I'm not sure where you come up with this: "arclite you give more credit to both UT and UF than I will this year." trailhound57 Tennessee ALWAYS prides itself on its running game. It’s what they do best. They have a lot of talent this year and are not pathetic. They are big and physical. Florida’s defense just shut them down with speed. As I said, Florida does not look like a top 5 team. I'm not even sure that Florida looks like a top 10 team. I believe that USC would wipe the floor with Florida. Heck, I think Texas and Ohio St. both looked better than either of these two teams. But then it’s easier to look bad against a good opponent and both of those defenses are pretty good. Florida needs a lot of improvement. Florida looked totally undisciplined on offense. They had so many motion penalties that wiped out good plays. Meyer stresses discipline so that was frustrating to watch. I think both of these teams are decent, not great. It’s difficult to tell from one game. Let’s see how they both look as the season progresses. Jawja is going to be tough, but I think that Tennessee matches up better with Jawja than does Florida. I was disappointed with Florida’s linebacker play on some short crossing route passes. Tennessee’s linebackers seemed to do a better job with containment. And we’re both going to need to contain DJ Shockly. “LOL! Has anyone noticed that UF and AL fans sing a similar tune.” TRAILHOUND57 “Yep, trailhound. In about a month, they will also be talking about "next year".” CHILI Yessir! Footballapallooza will have some interesting discussions about perception.” 6:30:31 AM 9/20/05 “arc- I have to hand it to you, you are a real master baiter. Even when the Gators squeeze out a close one at home with a questionable call and a lot of Tenn. mistakes, you are talking trash. Keep up with the Catholic rips, that's the surest way to for me to remember how jealous you must be about ND's offense. In fact, I think the gators might be in for a year like ND had in 2002...you'll keep winning till the defense breaks down and the offense still can't find a way to move the football. Of course, if you could keep up a steady diet of Wyoming and la Tech you'd be ok, but at least the rest of the SEC will give you a bit of a challenge.” 7:38:54 AM 9/20/05 “Great and very honest article that asks some tough questions about the media: Hype Falls To Reality http://www.thedailytimes.com/sited/story/html/217945 ...When I looked at the Vols this preseason, I drooled, and so did basically every other guy holding a tape recorder, camera or notepad. Media members in Gainesville probably were doing the same thing over tough-talking hot shot Meyer. If his name had been Burt Stephenson, he wouldn't have had half the publicity. We all saw the hype but none of the reality. That unveiled itself on Saturday night in a game that embarrassed a long line of great Tennessee-Florida matchups. Those games factored into national championships or at the very least relevance. Both teams looked bad and undeserving of a top 10 nod. The Gators moved to No. 5, and UT clung tightly to the 10 spot in the polls on Sunday. But all that is just hype. When each team reaches the heart of its schedule, we'll get to see if any of it was ever reality.” 9:52:47 AM 9/20/05 “But maybe that game also speaks about how good Oklahoma has actually been over the past two years. -arclite Nope it doesn't. Cause a lot of their players graduated and are not playing this year. Can't compare. Where as most of SC's players from last year are playing this year. For the most part, the SC team this year is the same as last year, if not better. Watch out! : )” 11:24:02 AM 9/20/05 “Projected BCS standings. If the season ended today USC would not be in the title game. http://clovis.mudbuginfo.com/ncaa/bcs_standings.php?week=4” 3:39:21 PM 9/20/05 “Trash talk bongo? You tawkin' ta me? I represent the little guy who hates a coach they’ve never met. I represent the little guy who believes that lopsided scores are mostly a matter of humiliation. I represent the little guy who thinks his conference is the only conference that plays meaningful college football. I represent the little guy who thinks his team is the best because it was good in the past. I represent the little guy who feeds off of sports writers and TV announcers who say, “These two teams hate each other.” I represent the little guy who gets all emotionally worked up over any and every student athlete arrest, two-quarterback system, unfair call, coaching change, bad play calling decision, hate-filled rivalry, disrespect for the other team “controversy” that the sports media drums up to sell its product. Of course, there’s nobody here like that. So I represent the little guy who is so rare to the world of sports. I see, pixie. So what yer sayin' is that Oklahoma had most of its players graduate but USC had very few graduate. I'll buy that! Everybody knows USC has a terrible graduation rate.
