The clamor for "Uncle Dunny Predicts" has become deafening. So, in order to keep you football freaks in line, I've decided to resume the popular nation-wide prognostication.

Let's start with an SEC match-up between the Vols and the Tigers. Now, if you remember, there were some Auburn players getting a lot of magazine exposure before the season. These players were not going to let their time on the stage go to waste, so they were not bashful with predicting their success. (Your old uncle is being nice here, Cocoa.) However, much water has passed under the Auburn bridge since then and the Vols are coming to town. Well, it's time to tell it like it is. Tennessee will come out looking a little worse for wear. Auburn will realize that they have their backs against the wall, and that all of those people in the stands are their fans. Auburn by 3.
Ahhh, Michigan vs Iowa. Now, we all know that John Navarre doesn't do too well on the road against ranked teams. Looky, looky, the Wolverines are playing a ranked team on the road! The string continues. Iowa by 7.
Virginia Tech at Rutgers. Now, some of the "experts" would give you 25 points if you were to pick the mighty Scarlet Knights to win this game. And, Uncle Dunny knows that Tech sees this as a bye week. However, Uncle Dunny is mighty thirsty, and he says that Rutgers will only lose by 10, thus proving that, at the end of the season, they will have a better record than the Jayhawks.
Kansas State at Texas. Sorry Wildcats, but in this game of two desperate teams, the home team wins. This means that Kansas will have a better conference record than you. Texas by 12.
NO COMMENT, GEO. I don't want to hurt your feelings.
Will Utah help Oregon continue their plunge into oblivion? Heck yes, says Dunny. Ducks sink.
Minnesota has Uncle Dunny's old coach, and he ain't a bad football coach. Therefore, Dunny says that the Gophers beat Northwestern.
UPSET SPECIAL. I'm sure that you have all heard the name, "Manning". Well, one of them Manning boys is going into the Swamp, and he won't get any mosquito bites. The Gators will be officially rebuilding after this game. Uncle Dunny won't give you a spread on this one.
Nebraska should be ashamed of themselves for playing Troy State this late in the season. If the Cornhuskers pass once in this game, it's only because they need the practice.
The Jayhawks will not lose this weekend.
So long for now. Uncle Dunny has to look at the schedules for any other tasty games to predict.

And, remember folks, Uncle Dunny predicting that your team will lose isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Lobos stomped the Utah State Aggies, 34-7 in their last non-conference game. They find themselves 3-3, and battle tested by Texas Tech, BYU and WSU. Now they have a bye week before beginning the meat of their conference play.

Mountain West Conference competition is going to be tough this year. You hear the word "parity" thrown around alot.

I'm Ba...aaaaack
Nice picking, Dunadan. Except for the Jayhawks part.

I was at the UF/Ol' Miss game. That was ugly on a number of levels. The players are young, inexperienced, and not executing well. The coaching just plain sucks. One of the worst passing defenses in the nation comes to town. A passing defense that was torched for over 600 yards by Texas Tech. An inept passing defense. So what's your game plan? You run the ball, of course.

The Gators are ugly this year. I predict they won't even make it to a bowl game. Four of our next opponents are ranked in the top ten and South Carolina is better than expected. I predict it's going to get REALLY UGLY for the Gators.

I see closed-minded violin is still pulling for Rot-gers. The man who suggests stupid knee-jerk books that don't have anything intelligent to say, is still a looooooser. Actually, I think Shano (sp?) may have that program on the rise. Here's hoping that the Scarlet Knights get a bowl invite. And here's one for YOU fiddle-boy:

You have fifty rare coins that all look identical. One is a fake and weighs more than the others.

You have a balance beam scale (like the scales of justice. It balances in the middle and has a pan on either side).

You must determine which coin is the fake and you can only weigh the coins (in any combination) four times.

How do you do this?

I predict that violin's time-frame for figuring that one out will equal the amount of time the Gator defense stayed on the field against Ol' Miss. Uhhhhhh-Gleee!

If UT had been lucky, that last drive would have resulted in a TD and we would have obtained the results in OT.

You can't take anything away from Auburn, they deserved to win.

-3 rushing. This has to be the worst performance in UT history.

It looked really, really ugly for the first 10 minutes of play. At that point, I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen a 35-0 rout.

It will probably be a better game than UT/UGA.

Unless we shape up, the remainder of the season is going to get as ugly as what Florida faces.

Georgia and Miami could be blowouts.

Kentucky isn't a pushover; Alabama can make their whole season with one win against UT; and assuming we somehow do make it to the SEC championship game we get LSU, Auburn or Arkansas, all of whom look like they can whip anyone in the east.
chili36
10:57:29 AM
10/06/03

I don't know chili. Not to sound like a Bamer but I really feel that this young team (especially the coaches) knows now where UT has to improve. Chavis obviously thought we could stop the run with only minor adjustments. Of course, it was in the 3rd that he realized the need for some major adjustments. Our running game can be stopped but it is still rather good. On the bright side, our passing game is much better than we thought with our freshmen receivers really looking good. However, Sanders still needs to go! I just feel much better playing UGA next week after getting handled by AU than if UT would have spanked them. Would've been nice to pull a win in OT or on a 2pt conversion though (IMHO I didn't think we had a chance in OT). I could easily see AU and UT meeting again this year. Both teams have there glaring weaknesses but because of their play style and kicking game are still tough beat on the score board.

trailhound, I agree that they are young and Chavis is good to make adjustments.

I have no faith in Sanders.

And yes, they would have been nuts not to have gone for 2,,,,but,,,we will never know.

dayhiker your right it's Tubby that has had a young team for 7 years now. Actually, I was talking about some of my wife's distance kin that if bama were not on probation would be setting around even after 4 losses mapping out the rest of the season how they could be win the National Champ (or claim one) and keep the NCAA on speed dial to report rumors of UT cheating. Seriously! We'll actually they can't afford speed dial.

I know the type you mean. Some lady had an editorial in the Sunday Sports page about how if this coach couldn't win then we need to find one that can. The guy has only had the offense in his hands a couple of months. What the heck do you expect, the miracle worker?

I also love the folks who plot out the possible scenarios. Ok, we 4-5 and if this team loses to this team who then loses to this team who then loses to Kansas, then we're the NC. The fly in the oinment is alway, but Kansas won't win that game. j/k Dunadan. Yall are ranked higher than we are now.

Dayhikers world turned upside down
In the Sportsline 117, CBS' rankings, KANSAS is ranked ahead of Alabama.

Arky watch out. Matt Jones is no Casey Clausen. I don't see him putting up 350 in the air. Auburn has the run D to stop the hogs. Auburn is 5-0 last 2 yrs against top ten teams when unranked. Arkansas is good and has Tommy Loserville's number, but Auburn matches up against the hogs and won't be surprised this year.

Enjoy that top ten ranking this week, cause you won't be there next week.

Here is the analysis from the Heartland.
Georgia won by putting quite a few points on the board, but I wouldn't feel too secure if I were a Bulldog fan. They looked good at times, but it was, by no means, a complete game. In their defense, maybe Georgia thought they could put it on cruise control. Congrats, Bulldog fans.
Tennessee teaches us the importance of having a balanced attack. (understatement of the season, so far) However, Auburn knew that, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this was make or break for them.
Arkansas has one heck of an offensive line, and that is one factor that makes their quarterback look good. I just see them as a team that knows it's in for a fight every Saturday. They are definitely a darkhorse team that could do big things this season.
Michigan. It was less of Navarre's fault than I thought it would be. He actually got the ball down field with frequency. However, the clock management in the end was his fault and a big mistake. Tough loss.
Congratulations, Lizzy. The Hawkeyes were hangin' by a thread in the end, but all's well that ends well.
Texas is going to run into a buzz saw next week. They could barely beat Kansas State, and although K-State is a good team, they ain't no Oklahoma.
Pathman, congratulations. I think you are wise to be worried about your conference schedule. UNLV is one dangerous team, just ask Wisconsin. Wyoming will be a big challenge for the Lobos, also.

Attention, football fans. Your old Uncle Dunny is lining up the games to predict for this weekend. He has decided to do a run through the Top Ten and include a few more that catch his eye. If you would like to know how your team is going to fare this weekend, you can request that I include your team. Just submit: 1. Teams names 2. Who is home team 3. What is the current spread in Vegas (not really important, but fun). Uncle Dunny promises to make an accurate prediction, but will not guarantee point spreads.

One vote is as good as a thousand for your Old Uncle Doomy, so I will tell it like it is.
1. Oklahoma will dominate the Shorthorns. Texas will be sky high, but this will work to their disadvantage. I see it as OK by two touchdowns.
2. Miami vs Florida State. The insufferable Bowden will be able to crow after this one. Fla St 27, Miami 24.
3. Ohiohiker State vs Wisconsin. Many fans point to this one as being the game where the Buckeyes run out of luck. Not so. Another close shave for the defending champs.
4. Va Tech will run over Syracuse.
5. LSU will continue to hand Florida a taste of humble pie. I see this as LSU winning by ten.
6. Upset special! Missouri, at home, will get their program back on track with a win over the Huskers. The Tigers felt like they had the Cornies on the ropes last year and will finish them off this year.
7. Auburn vs Arkansas. Auburn is going to be bringing more to the table than they did even last week. Will this be enough to barbeque the Pork? Dunny says no. Arkansas, at home, will scratch and claw to the end, and walk away victorious.
8. USC will beat the brainiacs of Stanford. Ho hum.
9. Georgia at Tennessee. No perfect records involved here. Georgia put up a lot of points in last week's ugly win. The Vols were lacking a key element in their game last week. This glaring deficiency in the Tennessee attack will not be remedied against the Bulldogs. Georgia wins.
10. Will Minnesota continue to climb in the polls? I think Michigan turns it around in this game and regains some of the respect that their fans lost last week.
11. Kansas State at Oklahoma State. Okie St is a hungry team, and have been whupped nine years in a row. Cowboy pride resurfaces and Okie State beats the Wildcats.
12. And, finally, Kansas visits Boulder to take on the Buffaloes of Colorado. Doomy sees Kansas winning this one, and getting a tiny bit of the national attention.
Good luck, everyone!
