Oklahoma does have some deficiencies on offense, but they find ways to win, don't they? Were I forced to put money on it, I would say Nebraska by 3. UCLA could be the spoiler, mapper. They have the total package, this year.” 11:28:45 PM 10/24/01 RE: The College Football thread “This is the same Mapper that was complaining about non-hiking threads? *GRIN*” 11:34:08 PM 10/24/01 RE: The College Football thread “UCLA probably has the easiest route. Oklahoma is good because Bob Stoops studied under Stevie-boy at Florida. Anyone who graduates from coaching at Florida earns a degree as a Certified Coaching Genius. Just look at Florida's game against Auburn. -37 yards rushing. Steve is lulling our future opponents into thinking that our running game sucks mouse turds. Pure Genius!” 12:49:00 PM 10/25/01 RE: The College Football thread “Arclite, you should see the paper here. Georgia really thinks they have a chance to win tomorrow. From my recollections, UF always kicks butt after a loss, so I look for it to get ugly quick. Still, UGA has looked pretty good so far. I'll be watching fer sher! Bacpac, AU came back down to earth last week with a tuff win over a pesky LaTech team. You think your boys are ready?” 12:50:05 PM 10/26/01 RE: The College Football thread “My rockets lost. Steve Bellasorry is still the bucks QB. Seattle 3 - Indians 2 It's gonna be a long month, nut at least I'm not a gator fan!” 12:56:08 PM 10/26/01 RE: The College Football thread “Maybe bellasorryass can go the way of Tom Tupa and do some punting? Lord knows he can't QB. This week...roasted Hawkeye (right from ther nest no less)! Yummy!” 1:17:45 PM 10/26/01 RE: The College Football thread “Clint Stoerner is starting for the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. Who is Clint Stoerner? He was the last decent quarterback that the Razorbacks had.” 1:20:28 PM 10/26/01 RE: The College Football thread “Good gravy! What a week for squeekers! I thought Michiagan was going to be eating crow instead of Hawkeye!” 8:28:40 AM 10/28/01 RE: The College Football thread “Congrats to Jopa and Penn St. You guys beat the worst QB in the history of Ohio State athletics (and that's hard to say considering Stanley Jackson was a QB at OSU). It is now official..... I am a better QB than Steve Ballasorry.” 10:21:05 AM 10/28/01 RE: The College Football thread “Buddha Bear, I was rooting for you guys - mostly because of strength of schedule. BTW, who the hell are the Nebraskas and Miamis of the world playing if Michigan had the 2nd toughest schedule in the country going into this week? Imagine if the Big Ten were actually good this year. Oh, and Iowa is one damn fine team. But, come on Iowa fans. They were - get this - booing their team with less than 2 minutes to play down by less than a touchdown when Iowa had the ball. The quarterback was shaking on his way out to the field. They might as well have painted big block "M"s on their cheeks.” 12:51:48 PM 10/28/01 RE: The College Football thread “I don't know if he's that bad Buddha. Sometimes a QB is only as good as the front line. Earl Bruce was quoted as saying this is the worste offensive line he's seen in years and years. Not that I deam Bruce worthy of quoting BTW.” 5:44:21 PM 10/28/01 RE: The College Football thread “Well RL just played and beat #2 Oklahoma. (Damnit, I was rootin' for the Sooners too!)” 8:24:06 PM 10/28/01 RE: The College Football thread “Did I predict a Cornhusker victory???? Am I afraid that the Jayhawks will be roadkill after Nebraska and Texas??? Answer to both questions....you know it!” 12:41:15 AM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “JAWJA BULLFRAWGS LIKDIK! The only good thing about Jawja beating Tennessee this year was that the GATORS just got to RUIN THEIR SEASON! YEEEEHAAAAA! I'm a happy camper now. The BCS is bogus! Playoff...playoff...playoff... AND JAWJA WON'T BE IN IT! YEEEHAAAA!” 12:48:37 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “Ooops I meant to say the "Huskers just played and beat..." And yep, Dunadan gave the thugs, errr... I mean Cornthugs, I mean "huskers" the edge on that one. But wait Dunadan, you say the Jayhawks will be road kill. But what are they now?” 1:01:26 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “did you see all the empty seats in the orange bowl????? was there even 30000 fans watching the game? thats sick for a top team” 1:37:18 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “The SEC East story is unfolding as it always does. UF and Vols at top of the pile. Who cares about the SEC West. I'm gonna watch the PAC-10 the rest of the way. At least things there (4 teams tied for first) are fun to watch. Sure wish BYU had scheduled another decent non-conference game (Miss State got cancelled) to measure how they measure against quality teams. Maybe they'll get a worthy bowl opponent. I guess the BCS weenies are happy that the "undefeated" logjam got cleared out at the top this weekend.” 3:36:48 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “For your information, Ped, the Jayhawks are waiting for basketball season. That's what they are right now. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!” 6:23:19 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “Well, may the Jayhawks put on a good show 'tween the hoops this year.” 6:31:43 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “So who else has Stanford?” 7:55:10 PM 10/29/01 RE: The College Football thread “Militiaboy, that's the way it's always been. Even when Miami made their run of national championships, they had no fan support. Their baseball team gets huge support. FSU doesn't sell out either. Who wants to see them play teams like Wake Forest and Duke every week? I won my bet for FSU to cover 8.5 against Maryland. Nobody in that league is in FSU's league. I don't know how the Cornhuskers sell out their games. People in Nebraska must not have anything better to do than watch their team beat up on some patsy 52-3. The Nebraska/Oklahoma game was the only excitment that league ever produced.” 6:42:05 AM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “Chester Taylor for the Heisman!” 9:06:21 AM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “I swore I would not get sucked into this thread, but c'mon, arclite - Texas, Texas A&M, Colorado, Kansas State, and Oklahoma are all patsies? Heck, we even played Notre Dame this year (although they didn't turn out to be very good as the season unfolded).” 9:21:47 AM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “what the hell else is sumbuddy supposed to do in nebraska? no pro sports and only one college. watching corn grow don't stay entertaining for long so lets put on our red clown suits and watch some feetball” 9:45:12 AM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “Where, Omahiker, did I say that Oklahoma was a patsy? Although they haven't had many good years between Switzer leaving and Stoops arriving, nowhere in my post did I ever say that Oklahoma was a patsy. That is a fallacious comment. The Big Twelve fairly recently expanded to include Texas and Texas A&M who both came from the Southwest conference. Look at the stats for the Big Twelve and tell me how many times either Nebraska or Oklahoma has NOT won that league.” 10:00:10 AM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “Excuse me, Arc. I think what you are referring to is the Big Eight. That's the way it should have stayed.” 10:53:56 PM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “I predict that Kansas will defeat Nebraska this Saturday. (It's gonna be a frosty day in Hades, I hear.) Hey, who has some ideas for a new coach for the Jayhawks?” 11:01:53 PM 10/30/01 RE: The College Football thread “You right 'bout dat, Dunadan. I could have been more specific but I figured everyone would know what I was talking about. Just as we all know that Kansas St. has never won the big 12/8 title and Kansas last shared the title in 1968. From 1962 to 1996, Nebraska and/or Oklahoma either won or shared the title every year but two. Since the expansion in '96, from 1996 to 1999, Nebraska won two out of four titles (I forget who won last year). I wish you well, Dunadan, but there hasn't ever been much competition in that league.” 6:51:17 AM 10/31/01 RE: The College Football thread “Chester Taylor could beat K State singlehandedly.” 7:33:13 AM 10/31/01 RE: The College Football thread “OK, guys, back off. Can I get a little sympathy for the beleaguered state of KS? The thing I didn't ever like about the SEC, (and now the Big 12), is that the teams don't play each other each year. If you play the same teams year after year, there usually surfaces two or three dominant teams. How many times have Nebraska and Oklahoma won the national title? I'd say there is good competition in the Big 12/8.” 10:20:52 AM 11/02/01 RE: The College Football thread “Oh, and BTW, the Longhorns could still be in contention for the national championship. Long shot, yes, but possible.” 7:01:30 PM 11/02/01 RE: The College Football thread “Man they were rolling up the scores this weekend.” 8:36:42 AM 11/04/01 Hockey is the coolest sport on earth. “After this weekend's results, I will no longer be making college football-related posts to this thread. So, I propose a format change for this thread - kind of like when your favorite radio station starts playing country music. The new thread title: "Hockey is the coolest sport on earth." So, just to begin, who do you think is the best goalie in the NHL this year. Sure, Osgood has been fantastic. But, my vote goes to Hasek. Any thoughts?” 10:59:59 AM 11/04/01 RE: The College Football thread “Son of a...what a crazy weekend! I got home and watched hilights and couldn't believe some of the games. Arkansas winning in the 7th overtime?! WTF? Michigan lost another last second games? WTF?” 1:55:04 PM 11/04/01 RE: The College Football thread “Did anybody else watch the Arkansa Ole Miss game? It was on the deuce up here and I got suckered in midway through the third quarter. At the end of regulation, it was all knotted up at 17. The final score ended up being Arkansas 58 Ole Miss 56. Seven overtimes? Unbelievable. One of the best games I've ever seen. Matt Jones, the Arkansas QB, looked like he might be the real deal. He demonstrated his 4.5 speed and smarts. They didn't let him throw much (I think he's a true sophomre) but he made plays when they needed them. Too bad for Michigan. They gave that game away with two stupid penalties to keep the Spartans' last drive alive. WTFO, they needed all of two first downs on their last possession to kill the clock and couldn't get 'em. Navarre looked plain awful. Arclite, as a Gator fan, how do you feel about them running up the score on poor Vanderbilt or any of their other hapless opponents? I don't think those gratuitous displays prove anything to the rest of the country. Does Superior do it for kicks or what? Hasn't the margin of victory factor in the BCS been given less weight this year?” 2:55:15 PM 11/04/01 RE: The College Football thread “Hey, I know that, as a Jayhawk fan, I should not be allowed to post on this thread, but I wanted to point out something. Until that Ark-Ole Miss game the longest Div 1A game was KU vs UAB, (4 overtimes). Congratulations Hogs! I see some national rankings next year if they keep improving. We are thinking of adding Ar to our jerseys during football season. I was giving Mich. St a lot of credit before the game. You have to love the Big Ten and the Pac Ten. No one is safe. Mighty Vandy!!!! Fla probably went down in the BCS for just playing them.” 4:27:29 PM 11/04/01 RE: The College Football thread “I would not call two dominant teams in a league, good competition, Dundan. I call that boooooring. What do you mean the SEC doesn't play each other? You mean we don't play every team, every year? Can't do it. Too many teams. We used to play Miami and Florida St. every year too. Those rivalry games were just as important to the fans. When the SEC expanded, we dropped the Miami game. We play eight SEC teams every year and if we are lucky enough to get to the championship game, we play nine. I don't see how you can complain about not playing the other SEC teams, Dunadan. Speaking of whining, I am so sick of people like Max. Do you complain about Joe Paterno running up the score? My friend from NJ does. How about Nebraska and Oklahoma beating up patsies EVERY week except for a couple of times a year? Do you complain about them? How about Florida St playing in the ACC or Miami playing in the Big East? Surely those lopsided games are worth whining about? It is the job of any team to stop the opposing offense. I hate when teams go into a shell, and sit on a lead. It can be dangerous too. Case in point was when Florida St. erased a 31 point fourth quarter deficit and tied Florida. I've seen that sort of nonsense come back to haunt teams. Spurier runs his offense. It gives the players a chance to practice the plays in a game situation and it keeps future opponent's coaches guessing as to what plays he could possibly call against them. It's a very smart thing to do. Are you a whiny football coach Max, or a whiny journalist? Tell you what, Spurrier doesn't tell me how to design buildings and I don't tell him how to run his offense. Maybe you'd like to give him some lessons. Just for fun. I think that most of us here agree, the national championship under the BCS is a joke. And that's the best they've come up with yet. The national championship means very little until they insitute a playoff system.” 7:02:25 PM 11/04/01 RE: The College Football thread “OOOH...Arcy is a bit touchy..LOL No, I don't think leagues should be so big that teams don't play each other each season. Just the way I see it. The creation of the Big 12 has ruined some of the rivalries as to when they are traditionally played in the season. We don't get a chance to get pounded by Oklahoma every year like we used to. I don't like it. Why don't we have every college in one big league? Hmmmm...I think I can sell this idea...forget I mentioned it. I bet that if you designed Spurrier's house, he would have plenty to say about how you do your job, Arc. We have the obligation to criticize, because that's what whiny football fans do. Mighty Vandy! Don't worry Gator fans, you will continue to do well as long as you don't allow Billy Donovan to tap the Alumni for too much $.” 9:49:45 AM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Does it show, Dunadan? Oh hell yes that's a touchy subject with me. I am very tired of some folks having a double standard. I am also tired of sports writers who love to create dissent by fabricating some personallities as "black hats" and some as "white hats." They print interview "sound bites", taken out of context, that suppoert their divisive views. Lastly, I have absolutely no patience for the wrassling fans who believe that whiny tripe and then waste time spitting it back out. Ignorance may be bliss, but it's a pain in the arse. Didn't mean to get personal on you, Max, you bum!” 1:09:00 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “BTW, Dunadan, now that I'm all fired up on an empty stomach during lunch, let me tell you about an interesting article in our paper last week. Seems that some sports writer out in Kansas wrote a ridiculous piece about Spurrier and his offense. This guy went on to write about how proud he was of the coach at K. St. and how his philosophy of running the ball was somehow morally superior to Spurrier's passing offense (#1 in the country btw). Our sports writer ripped this guy a new rectum when the guy said that the K. St. coach wasn't interested in a "flashy offense" all the coach at K. St. was interested in was winning. Yeah right. The guy has never even won his own league. That's the kind of sports writing tripe that appears around the country. And people eat it up.” 1:26:08 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Barring castrophe arclite, the Gators should get a real test on the first Sat in December with the makeup game with the Vols. While I don't have enought confidence to bet on UT yet, I do feel like they are a whole lot better than they were just a few weeks ago. And yes, if either team in that game is able, I would highly expect them to roll up as much of a margin as possible.” 2:13:31 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread 2:48:28 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Very funny, chili. They don't spel good. Yes, UF would have had a big advantage early in the season. UT is young and they had some players injured in the preseason. Some of those players are back and the youngsters are getting more experience every week. It should be an excellent game as always. I like that rivalry. Unfortunately MSU wasn't as good as predicted. Our schedule was rated the toughest in the nation last year. If it isn't the toughest, it's close this year. South Carolina at USC, Florida St., Tennessee, and (if we can win) the SEC championship game will be a true test of where the team is this year.” 3:13:23 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Arclite, I would say that if UF finishes without another loss, the slip up at Auburn will be moot. (No jab intended so therefore I don't need any reference to UGA) LOL.” 3:32:07 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “"Seems that some sports writer out in Kansas wrote a ridiculous piece about Spurrier and his offense. This guy went on to write about how proud he was of the coach at K. St. and how his philosophy of running the ball was somehow morally superior to Spurrier's passing offense" This is something that has mystified me as well. Why is it that some sports writers carry this torch for the [Keith Jackson voice here] ?Smash-mouth football of the good old days?. This is something that the Big Ten has always been lauded as, a real smashmouth league. They act like the west coast offences should be left to the pros no matter how well they work. The object of the game is to put the in the in zone.” 3:45:37 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Just don't bring back the wishbone.” 3:55:32 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “I read a Sports Illustrated article about this high school football team in Texas I think, that started using this system from way, way back where there were three backs in the field and there was no QB. The ball can go to any of the three. It was such a devastating system that none of the teams in their league could stop them. Now that would be interesting to see come back to collage ball! BTW- I like the wishbone.” 4:11:48 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “That is interesting Nigal,,imagine the possiblilities... sort of like three card monte for football, LOL.” 4:13:56 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “That is interesting about the article from Manhattan Kansas. You have to understand, those folks are some of the biggest consumers, per capita, of beer in the USA. I don't know what the writer was talking about, though, because two and three years ago, K-St was a pass-aholic team. The big story this year is that their running back, Scobey, can actually be dependable. Let me know where you saw that article, because something sounds fishy here. Bill Snyder, (K-St coach), is very much in favor of a pro style offense. If he had the guns that Spurrier has, he would be doing the same thing, I think. The wishbone is a great offense. It is just too hard for most teams to run, and hard to recruit three great running backs and a great running QB. You should have seen some of the great Oklahoma and Texas teams run it. Excitement. Even here at Kansas, we had a QB named Nolan Cromwell who Barry Switzer said ran the wishbone better than he had seen it ever run. I love to see Arcy get riled up. Go Vandy!” 6:08:38 PM 11/05/01 RE: The College Football thread “Whoa, ease up on the mouse, arclite. It wasn't wholly my intent to rattle your cage. A little rib was certainly there, but as a fan of one of the big boys, I'd expect you to be able to take a little. I was honestly interested in your opinion of the utility of scoring 71 on Vanderbilt. Really. I'm not saying Spurrier & Co. shouldn't work every aspect of the schedule game to their advantage; everybody either pads their schedule or is trying really hard to get their program to a point where they can pad the schedule. Notre Dame doesn't pad much & look where they're at. To me, all a blowout like that says is those two teams don't have any business being on the same field. While I?m with the "it gives us a chance to run our offense? argument to a point, how much better can opposition like that make kids who already rank among the best in the nation? Spurrier has built a great program. Any number of NFL teams salivate at the thought of having him as head man. That?s beyond argument. But I?m a college football fan. I want to see the best teams test themselves at this point in the season. I don?t like the BCS, but if it?s gonna stay around, margin of victory should get little weight and strength of schedule more. We as fans would get better product. It?s all good though. What?s a little football amongst friends? I always liked the wishbone. Very dangerous when run properly.” 7:52:21 PM 11/05/01 Jump to Page << prev
