“When I was a kid in Arkansas, I once collected as many fireflies as I could. I put them in a jar thinking to make a lamp or flashlight for nighttime hiking near the bluffs up the road some distance.

It didn't work very well, but catching those flys was fun.”

“I`ve never out-grown the wonder in the soft glow they cast
some have met their time, but mine hasn`t come that fast
I`ve painted with the faintest bit of their after glow
if I live forever, I`ll always love their light show
soft were those summer nights chasing the firefies, what a gas
I hope I never live so long that I forget to wander in the grass
and I`m tempted to go out now and just take another look see
it`s strange the hold those tiny fireflies still have on me”

“At one point, I had been sitting there quite still for over an hour.. watching.. no lights on of course.. my feet dangling in the water.. and it suddenly occurred to me..

"hey.. idiot.. you are sitting down in the middle of a fairly active animal trail.. in the dark.. completely unprepared should something come lumbering down the trail."”
