I wonder how many on TT came in through the kitchen door of thebackpacker.com and missed the front yard? I did, and I have never looked around the site. The censorship thread and Matt's response made me go to the home page and look around. Great stuff! Matt is truly supporting and promoting Backpacking.

No doubt on what matt does here. I came in through the front door after a web search a few years ago. I happened upon TT while looking around. Lurked for awhile.

Like Baume, I came in the front door after doing a web search. Actually read most of the site before I ever came in here. It is a very good site. Good info for us relativley new comers to BPing.

RE: thebackpacker.com
I came through the front door too and found TT by accident. I had my TT name a long time before i used it. I thought at first that there wasn't enough actual trail and hiking talk, but now i realize that it would get boring if that was all that was going on.

Because there are other things here to get into it keeps me coming back. It's kinda like a soap everyone has their place and personality, i'm glad that Matt gives us room to grow. It's what's keeping this site moving when the others are stagnet.

RE: thebackpacker.com
I came in the front door after doing a search, also. I checked out TT last. Mel was posting sexual innuendos. Radagast and Nigal were bantering back and forth. Tarpie was distraught over AmyG. Gojo was in love with The Friendly Ranger and bacpac was babbling about nothing. This place is a riot and I've stuck around ever since. It was Joy who took me under her wing and was my first TT friend.

Here's tequila, I'm too ya, Joy! *raising cup into the air*

I forget all that good stuff is there too. I just spent a pleasant hour looking it over again. I sent some links to Matt and I found that Navajo National Monument in AZ is only open for hikers in the summer.

I let myself get run out of here a couple of times by raw language and locker room talk--I still see no need for it but my skin is thicker now--you can't get rid of me. I've bacome very fond of y'all.

I'm a front door man.

I thought everyone was supposed to comment on the current article, and started a thread on slow vs. fast hiking. It was great how people responded. How come nobody is nice to me now?

RE: thebackpacker.com
I think I wandered here via a search engine long ago, but its hard to remember. I was thrilled to find all the information here (main page) but even more psyched about all of the great people I discovered on trail talk. It took me a few visits to discover tt, but it was a keeper (obviously).

The only part of the site that seems to be light is the lack of enthusiasm over posting gear reviews and for sale items...those things do get posted on TT, but I am sure that gets overlooked by many who are interested. I visit other sites for reviews and classifieds. there, I said it.

Hey Dunadan,
I remember the days of poor naive "RangerD"...whatever happened to that chump?

heheheh

Ode To thebackpacker.com
I feel unhappy, I feel so sad,
I lost the best friend that I ever had,
She was my woman, I loved her so,
But it's too late now, I've let her go

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes

We shared the years, we shared each day,
In love together we found a way,
But soon the world had its evil way,
My heart was blinded,
Love went astray

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes

It took so long to realize,
And I can still hear her last goodbyes,
Now all my days are filled with tears,
Wish I could go back and change these years

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes

Trivia
The stuttering in "ch-ch-ch-ch-changes" was a popular technique at the time (possibly inspired by the Who's My Generation). Further information indicates that stuttering was a common problem amongst Mods in the 1960's as a side-effect of some of the drugs they took.
