“Nimrod, the Sage SPs have apparently been cleared for closeout pricing by Sage. They are a sweet rod that a beginner could learn to cast and yet should be cherished by experienced anglers. As newbie to that sport you may suffer from sticker shock even on discounted models. IMO, a good rod is important, but for trout, the reel is of less signifigance and you can save some dollars there. Sage is good. I've got an Orvis, go with a fairly lightweight rod if you're going into the high country. By all means get a 4-piece pack rod! You can go anywhere, pack, fly, run, bike. You'll probably use it more on pack trips than any other way. I'll get a fly fishing thread going soon!”
