trips - Labor Day JauntTrip Info
DescriptionContact Information: Chris Fox. Email me (towndawg@gmail.com) and I will send you my cell phone number if you don’t have it. Finalized Itinerary 1) Meet early Friday (about 8am) at the Hot Springs trailhead. I called Bluff Mountain Outfitters in Hot Springs NC. They said that parking is as safe as parking at most trailheads, and should not be a problem. Directions: Hwy 25/70 from Newport toward Hot Springs, watch for city limits sign, and 35mph. Watch for white sign that says House of Prayer (Jesuits) and a monument. Turn right and look for the trailhead on the right. 2) Transport us in one car to start point (Standing Bear Farm. Parking is $4/day. 3) Make Groundhog Shelter (about 8-9 mi) day one, Roaring Fork Shelter (about 8-9 mi) day 2, and Deer Park Shelter on (about 14-15 mi) day 3. Walk to the Hot Springs trailhead (3-4 mi) on day 4. ===================================================================== NOTE: To anyone who'd like to go, but can't join us until Saturday morning -- I got a response back from Standing Bear Farm. They do shuttles up to that area all the time, and his name is Curtis (423.487.0014). You have two possibilities: 1) All the way to Max Patch (which makes it super easy for you because all the climbing is done) or -- 2) Take you to Browns Gap (which leaves you with a short four mile climb, but would allow us to hike the section together most likely).
